But that was an atrocity. How many holding penalties can you call against one team? Also that missed OPI on Chase was about as bad of a missed call as you're gonna see.
Probably due to the TD that they didn’t take off the board
The nfl cares about was getting a minority on primetime unfortunately
Yuck. This comment is in poor taste. Just a cursory look at current NFL referees shows a multitude of minorities holding ref jobs, including several women. I’m willing to bet every crew has a minority member or two on it now. No need to make ignorant comments.
At Nfl policies shows its more then likely a possibility. Boger has always been known to be a poor referee.
Boger is a poor ref. There are also extremely bad refs that are white. If you’re telling me the whole referee construct needs to be revamped I agree with you, as well as simplifying the NFL rule book.
I think there are just so many crews a lot of WC games,, and some games are gonna get the lesser quality ones until the divisional and championship rounds. But to say they want minorities on primetime (especially when Bills-Pats was the primetime game) I don’t think is correct.
Whether Bogers crew had good enough grades considering refs are typically graded higher with more flags thrown given how the system works. The point is, my comment isnt out of ignorance, if anything its the nfl that would be to even think this way. And yes im speculating but i also can see it being a very likely possibility. I wont argue further as I have no wish to waste a weekend arguing, as I’m sure you don’t either. Just letting you know the vibe I got from your comment was like a “the NFL and these minorities” grumble grumble.. I do think the NFL has an officiating issue, and I do think the NFL has an over saturated rule book issue. The quality of officiating needs to get better absolutely. I don’t think it has anything to do with the officials being minorities.
That’s the last I’ll say on it. Enjoy the playoffs.
The NFL has an enormous rule book problem. There are way too many flaggable plays at the moment. Its a love the soldier hate the war type proposition imo where fundamentally things need to be fixed up top to stop the pressure on refs throwing flag after flag and let these guys play. When you have bad crews (like Bogers) everything will be a flag fest and theyll probably be rewarded for it. Some of the calls yesterday especially the post play flags were egregious. That roughing the passer almost gave the game to LV.
Thank goodness, i thought you were going to tell us that the Germans
Jerome Boger has been one of the worse referees for years.
His playoff assignments show that the league acknowledges this.
The expanded system with more games started last year. He received a wild card assignment last year and this year because there were more games.
In the previous 10 years he did not get an onfield referee assignment in 9 of the years. In that one year he got a playoff game plus the Super Bowl. In that year, it was widely believed the league wanted him as Super Bowl referee no matter what his performance was. There was a lot of discussion of the league retroactively enhancing his performance records. A quote from one site.
“Boger was chosen to be the referee of Super Bowl XLVII, held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on February 3, 2013, only the second African-American to do so behind Mike Carey five years earlier. This caused several other NFL officials to question the leagues' officiating department's grading process, claiming that all of Boger's downgrades during the season were reversed.”
In terms of Black referees, the one who I think got screwed was Johnny Grier. He was one of the best referees in his time but never got a Super Bowl. It was rumored that he was not liked by league officials.
Ron Torbert and Shawn Smith are demonstrably better than Jerome Boger so not sure why NFL did this. If there is an official that is overhyped it is Shawn Hochuli. He isn’t terrible, but I also wouldn’t put him on a level with guys like Smith, Torbert, Carl Cheffers, Bill Vinovich, Clete Blakeman, and Brad Allen.
This is news to 100 mill NFL fans????

Yes, the NFL, which is about 70% black, was trying their damnedest to get a minority on TV. Sweet hot take.
