Now, Flores has interviewed for two vacancies, with the Bears and the Texans. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Giants are expected to request an interview with Flores soon. |
This is an interesting report and maybe PFT doesn’t really know anything, but if it’s true it suggests one of several things.
A) Giants aren’t actually going to let the GM lead the search
B) Giants know who they are hiring and will start to set up interviews
C) Giants finalists have all indicated they would interview Flores
Feels like this process is starting to pick up steam

Just hoping they get the GM in house first so he can do the interviewing.
They are going to meet in person with the finalists, or at least that was what Mara said his preference was last week
Haha. So true. Requesting permission from his wife maybe.
Hope it’s C.
I thought those rumors were discord between him and the GM. Were there issues between him and his staff or the players?
I have to believe if hired, he would be the GM's hire. If not, then I'd be more concerned with that.
Hearing nothing on Flores closing with Texans may be a clue.
Hopefully after tomorrow's interviews we get word of the final in-person GM interviews.
They may want to do a 2nd interview before deciding, but regardless, they have to do an in-person interview with a minority candidate before they can hire.
If they know that Schoen/Danollis a real possibility or Horowitz/Roman they will need to pull trigger fast and get this policy checked as quickly as possible.

So maybe the giants are letting the gm(s) pick their HC and they are simply vetting people. Or play the jump to conclusions game.

Exactly correct, they know who the GM's want or are considering. Who they interview first for HC will say a lot
There’s absolutely no harm in temperature checking Flores if the GM candidates they like, like him. The new GM will have time to interview him too.
One of the benefits of the new Rooney rules is it’s going to slow down the process and get a bunch of minority guys interviewed in person too.
The old world led to a mad scramble to hire the guy you were the most familiar with for fear you’d lose musical chairs.
It didn't say request permission. It said request an interview, probably with Flores' agent.
