In all out rebuild mode how many more picks do you think we can realistically acquire via trade down, graham getting head coach job or supplemental picks?
Value is not always there. Also you have to have a trade partner. How far down are you willing to trade a pick and wha are we getting in return? Could be wise to grab an extra #1 for the 23 draft if we’re going to consider pushing off the drafting of a QB, but it could also be at the expense of getting the player you desire.
And how NYG lost out on Slater in a trade down scenario. If NYG trade down, I truly hope at 5 they get the OL they want and if so, trade down a few spots from 7 IF it giants a 23 1. I’m not trading past 18(Saints) if they want a QB, they’d probably make a huge offer to get it done. Scary thing with that is you can’t always expect a team to suck like the Bears did the following season. I’m not 100% sure how everything works, but if Graham gets a HC job elsewhere I’m sure Giants get a comp pick.
I think the Giants have to formally release assistant coaches but will
Not block anyone from interviewing elsewhere or leaving. So I think the Giants still retain control and the coaches still get paid. I think that’s how it has worked in the past. There are some decent coaches on this staff and some may have been held back by Judge’s philosophy.
Most of the “teaching” staff Judge assembled will probably go back to colleges. The NFL lifers will get other offers as the coaching carousel starts to spin.
This. And... this is where they earn it... when we are on the board at 5 is there a blue chip guy there? a Blue Goose OL? the best LB? Edge? This is where their rankings are super important... if we can't get one of those, do we trade down? get a bunch of 2nd tier type guys at later picks?
It hurts to miss on a super talented guy (Parsons for example) but it is worse picking one you think is going to be great and is not.
A lot riding on this GM / Coaching hire and this draft.

Don't think Slater or Parsons for that matter were ever in play by the Giants.
that we’re going to get the kind of value in a trade down that Gettleman was able to get last year, but if someone is looking for a QB and is willing to pay above the odds, then you make that trade any time.
Really nice discussion. I would just add that it doesn’t matter if you have one draft pick per round or five. It is who you pick with the choice. There is no Butkus or Rice in this draft - all the top players have flaws If the GM the Giants hire is very good at scouting and gets opinions from strong talent evaluators he would fill a much needed holes with extra picks if he negotiates something close to a Godfather offer with a desperate enough team looking for a specific player who will be gone by their choice (Pickett?) if no offer then make your selection. Is there really a huge difference in players a few spots away? A good linebacker versus a good receiver versus a solid tackle versus a good pass rusher who can stop the run as well? All rated about the same but at different positions The Ravens got the best QB in the draft a few years ago. Some very good players went ahead of him at different positions and some very bad QBs too. Many teams who needed a QB could have traded down got extra picks and taken him. They didn’t. I think this is why this GM choice will make or break this franchise - he has to start turning this around.
Someone said you have to be careful about trading down. Thank you captain obvious for your shitball analysis. The Giants should trade down at 7 if they can get decent value. I would say a trade for a pick say at 20 also aquiring the teams 2nd and 3rd round picks. This draft is loaded with good players and if we can get an extra 2 and a 3 as well as a lower 1...all day. We have 7 pick in first 4 rounds. I would love 9 picks with those 9 we have to take 4 offensive lineman..maybe 5. Edge, Linebacker, RB, TE.
Of course you don't completly force that but you probably won't have to. Giants have a ton of roster spots to be filled. If we can fill them with super young, inexpensive and controllablel players for 4-5 years we can finally be well on our way to the rebuild we need.
no he's referring to when one of the minority assistants get a job as HC or GM, the organization they came from gets awarded compensatory picks.
as a sidenote, im not sure he is technically employed by the giants anymore so I think it would be moot in the case of Graham.

This^^^^^^. It takes 2 to tango

Why would that results in us getting more picks? Do you think someone is potentially trading us picks to hire Graham?

I was not aware of that. Thanks.
Take Dean at 5

I’ll pass please

Maybe, maybe not.
They've worked together before, but I thought it a little odd at the time that Flores let Graham go in a lateral move to the Giants.
Flores may prefer Josh Boyer, his DC with the Dolphins.
