Who would you rather have Ran Carthon or Adam Peters?

shadow_spinner0 : 1/17/2022 2:46 pm
So I was reading comments by 49ers fans on their specific roles. Carthan, the Director of Player Personnel is focused on free agency and veteran talent around the league while Peters, the Assistant GM role is focused on scouting college players and drafting (along with Shanahan), and they work together synergistically. Both have done their jobs very well.

Which would you rather have? I rather Peters so we can build through the draft and have more hits than misses. Although Carthan has that slight Giants connection since his father won two Super bowls with us.
Peters

A lot more experience.
Probably not fair to Carthon

and his dad was a really good player for the Giants, but I would be really happy to get a GM and coach with absolutely no connection to the Giants whatsoever.
can we hire 1

Agreed. Make Carthon the assistant GM.
I want Peters...
2ndroundKO : 1/17/2022 3:09 pm : link
Period. Over every other candidate.
Peters
The Dude : 1/17/2022 3:18 pm : link
just based off of experience.

He's my number 1, but as Ive mentioned, I think giants got lucky in terms of this GM "class". Definitely agents drumming up interests but the net Mara cast for interviews had a ton of solid candidates.

my preference:
Peters/McDaniel HC
Hortiz/Whoever he picks as HC
Schoen/Daboll

As opposed to last time a GM was hired, I dont believe that the Giants will be stuck in the mud and philosophically backwards. Think those 3 are atleast putting the org in the right direction
I second

Peters has my vote

SF has nailed so many picks in their drafts in the last 5 years.

Both are nice guys but I don't think either is a GM. There are better options.

is already better.
Peters

He was respected in Denver before going to SF and had a bit more responsibility than Carthon. Carthon is someone you take as a right hand man to Peters, not as top guy.
Gotta be Peters
adamg : 1/17/2022 3:46 pm : link
They've nailed their draft picks pretty hard.
Peters

The 49'ers have done an excellent job building that team thru the draft. Here are a few of the players they've added thru the draft over the past few years.

WR Deebo Samuel - 2nd round
TE George Kittle - 5th round
WR Brandon Aiyuk - 1st round
DE Arik Armstead - 1st round
RB Elijah Mitchell - 6th round
DT Kentavius Street - 4th round
DT DJ Jones - 6th round
DT Javon Kinlaw - 1st round
DE Nick Bosa - 1st round
LB Azeez Al-Shaair - UDFA
LB Fred Warner - 3rd round
LB Dre Greenlaw - 5th round
CB Emmanuel Moseley - UDFA
CB Ambry Thomas - 3rd round
S Jaquiski Tartt - 2nd round
S Jimmie Ward - 1st round

All of them are either full time starters or are current starters due to injury.

Peters is one of the most respected talent evaluators from what I’ve read.
While the available HC candidates aren't too exciting
Jay on the Island : 1/17/2022 4:27 pm : link
The GM candidates are very impressive. There are four legitimate candidates that all have impressive backgrounds.
Schoen, Horitz, Peters, and Poles are all capable of running their own team and will make solid general managers.

Usually you might hear one or two candidates that you find encouraging but then there are several more that are underwhelming or disappointing.

It appears that the Giants are set to name one of those four the new GM. In the beginning I wanted Schoen or Horitz but the more I learn about Peters the more intriguing he becomes. Poles is also an excellent option but he's not as experienced as the other three. Poles will be a GM somewhere in the near future if he doesn't become the Giants GM.

It's nice to finally have some hope about the direction of this franchise.
Not sure if the article I read
greatgrandpa : 1/17/2022 9:56 pm : link
Was accurate but 49ers people are saying Peters has been running the teams recent drafts - not Lynch. If so, the man knows football talent and should get his own team to run. The high picks have helped but he has nailed later round picks as well.
I've read a lot

Of posts clamoring for McDaniels as HC. I just don't see it happening. Have any of you seen his press conferences? They're quirky and hilarious, but I can't imagine that style impressing Mara and other Giants interviewers.

Good post. That is a ton of talent listed above, and you even left off some guys like T/G Mike McGlinchey and WR Jauan Jennings.

GM prospects is impressive and (knock wood) any one of them would be an excellent addition. They all come from well run organizations.
Carthon seems the least experienced, but yeah I'd love to have him come as assistant GM.

When you really pop the hood...
bw in dc : 1/18/2022 12:40 pm : link
and read about Peters, I think the best at evaluating college talent, especially since he started to report directly to Lynch.

He might be to the 49ers what McClay is to Dallas.
Peters for sure
5BowlsSoon : 1/18/2022 4:46 pm : link
But I wonder if Oakland will reach out to him to be their GM now. They should…
