So I was reading comments by 49ers fans on their specific roles. Carthan, the Director of Player Personnel is focused on free agency and veteran talent around the league while Peters, the Assistant GM role is focused on scouting college players and drafting (along with Shanahan), and they work together synergistically. Both have done their jobs very well.
Which would you rather have? I rather Peters so we can build through the draft and have more hits than misses. Although Carthan has that slight Giants connection since his father won two Super bowls with us.
Let's fleece 'em

Agreed. Make Carthon the assistant GM.
He's my number 1, but as Ive mentioned, I think giants got lucky in terms of this GM "class". Definitely agents drumming up interests but the net Mara cast for interviews had a ton of solid candidates.
my preference:
Peters/McDaniel HC
Hortiz/Whoever he picks as HC
Schoen/Daboll
As opposed to last time a GM was hired, I dont believe that the Giants will be stuck in the mud and philosophically backwards. Think those 3 are atleast putting the org in the right direction

All of them are either full time starters or are current starters due to injury.
Peters is one of the most respected talent evaluators from what I’ve read.
Schoen, Horitz, Peters, and Poles are all capable of running their own team and will make solid general managers.
Usually you might hear one or two candidates that you find encouraging but then there are several more that are underwhelming or disappointing.
It appears that the Giants are set to name one of those four the new GM. In the beginning I wanted Schoen or Horitz but the more I learn about Peters the more intriguing he becomes. Poles is also an excellent option but he's not as experienced as the other three. Poles will be a GM somewhere in the near future if he doesn't become the Giants GM.
It's nice to finally have some hope about the direction of this franchise.

Good post. That is a ton of talent listed above, and you even left off some guys like T/G Mike McGlinchey and WR Jauan Jennings.
Carthon seems the least experienced, but yeah I'd love to have him come as assistant GM.
He might be to the 49ers what McClay is to Dallas.
