I can't remember any team having as many shocking first round picks. He's done next to nothing with a ton of draft capital.
He's had 6 1st round draft picks as GM of Oakland.
4th Overall Clelin Ferrell- 8 career sacks in 3 years. Huge bust. Josh Allen was the consensus best pass rusher but Mayock shocked everyone and took Ferrell, who was seen as a mid-late first over Allen and Devin White.
11th overall- Henry Ruggs- we all know what happened. But he wasn't exactly lighting it up anyway. Very inconsistent and was taken over Ceedee Lamb and Jefferson.
19th overall- Damon Arnette- no longer on team because he threatened to kill a fan. When he was on the field, he was awful. 33 PFF grade and had struggled to earn reps. Coming into draft, most saw him as a 2nd or 3rd rounder.
24th overall- Josh Jacobs. This is Mayocks best pick. Jacobs is a good player. But he's a round 1 RB. I personally wouldn't rank him inside of the top 10 rbs in the league right now so while he's good, Mayocks BEST first rounder is still a horrible value.
27th overall- Jonathan Abram- a hard hitting safety who cannot cover. Barely a starting caliber player.
20th overall- Alex Leatherwood- he struggled as a rookie this year. 44pff grade. Was also thought of as a 2nd rounder. Another reach
If this is who you want to hand the keys and give 2 top 7 picks to, you are asking for a disaster.
Whoa, whoa. I said interview, not hire, repeat , interview, not hire. Calm down. Pretty sure Gruden had final say in personnel matters so you can't definitively peg those 1st round misses on Mayock. Hes also brought in some mid to late round talent as well. Seems odd that he can identify those kind of guys but can't do the same with 1st rounders?
Bring him in for an interview and kick the tires and see what was happening behind the scenes.
That's setting the bar pretty low...lol
But Clelin Ferrell? Alex Leatherwood? Damon Arnette? Henry Ruggs III (granted his wasn’t performance)?
That’s horrible
Yes.
...and here we are suffering through--what--five years in a row of double-digit losses?

We live in fascinating times.

Breeze laid it out pretty nicely. The 1st round selections have been horrid. Many were seen as bad selections at the time as well.

are laughable. He's terrible? Awful? based on what?

Based on first round draft picks, he's had some misses, does that make his time their as awful?
thanks but no thanks
hire him as a vet scout
