the Mara's what they think has caused the Giants to be so awful the past 10 years. That bit of self-reflection would sure be interesting, and the answer could go a long way in helping decide if this is where they want to be.
Here's what I'm wondering: Did they ask if they get to choose their own staff, 100%, including medical and training staff; and does the head coach get 100% choice of assistant coaches?
1st you have to know your interviewer .... A person that is not very self reflective and/or thin skinned will not take well to this question and more than likely will alienate you. However I'd think a good trait for a GM is too be a direct, straight shooter and while being able to read the room and his/her audience. Mara is a bit thin skinned at times would be interesting to see how that would play out.
I for one would like a candidate with the stones to ask that reflective question.
The right candidate would certainly want to understand the culture of decision making before staking what would likely be his only GM shot on an organization with zero self-awareness.
Did he? He gave a nice PR answer in a controlled environment for PR and image reasons ... hence only 1 question and no follow-ups and we will not be live another safeguard.
In a personal interview that more than likely includes an NDA you are going to get a more real answer, IMO.

...across that group is that somebody with the football resume of the three candidates with confirmed 2nd interviews is interviewing ownership as much as the reverse.
We're talking careers here. Decisions that change people's lives financially and from a reputation standpoint. Its far, far bigger than a bunch of fans hypothesizing on a message board about how the Mara's suck and/or wield all the power here.
The follow-up question would be, are the Mara's willing to do what is necessary and not take that critical line of questioning personally. That's the glimmer of hope.
in first interviews and explored again and in-depth in the second round. According to some beat writers, Schoen was in the building all day yesterday. If he didn't make clear his expectations on revamping as he sees fit the scouting and personnel depts. and chain-of-command and decision-making processes, then something is very wrong. And no, I don't think this means ousting C. Mara and Tim McDonnell. It means getting clarity around what they do in the context of who they are. Same with Poles and Peters. Everyone knows this has been an issue, Maybe it's been overblown. Maybe not. But it cannot be ignored.
the two candidates from the Ravens didn’t receive a callback. Maybe the candidates asked a question and realized the answer was not in line with a plan to fix a decade long problem?
Oh to be a fly on the wall for these interviews…
One way to answer a tough question is to respond with questions, so
1. Giants have had troubles since winning super bowl, no question, but what has gone wrong with the drafting problem, why did George Young draft LT #2, but DG chose to draft SB 2?
2. Why has the team seemingly over paid for FAs? Such as Solder, the lb’er not Martinez,
3. Who is responsible for the repeated wasting of high draft choices in the secondary, ie apple, the summer suplllemental # 3, trading up for a character issue cb. Someone made these choices why were they repeated
etc etc

Outstanding reply. I'm curious, do you have interviewing experience?

Decline of roster.....
Luck has been all bad....since Super Bowl victory.

Totally agree!
