They settled down after that 2nd goal, but the 3rd Toronto goal was pretty deflating. Still a lot of time to go against a team missing their best defenseman, but they did not inspire much confidence in any area in that period. Not generating any offense, defense is soft and slow, and Igor, while not really at “fault”, could be better in his rebound control. Next goal is a huge one.
RE: And there's Ryan Reaves' first goal as a Ranger
This 4th line is physically dominating. Kreider and Zibanejad setting up some chances, Chytil had a chance down low. They look very good this period, and I expect this game to be tied going into the 3rd.
Just gotta finish off this PK to start the third and keep pushing. Igor has settled down, making some key saves late in that period. I love the physicality they’re playing with. Really great game to watch between two great teams.
Rangers forecheck dominated second period.
You know that both coaches are emphasizing the forecheck for the third period at the break. Terrific game so far.
and that was a great pass by Strome to Fox on the tying goal, but that goal doesn't happen without Chytil forcing the turnover in the zone at the blue line. (side note - as a coach of kids in youth hockey that turnover drives me crazy - as an NHL coach I'd bench someone)
And for Chytil, not even a 2nd assist, so nowhere on the scoresheet, but he makes plays like that every game I watch him. He is developing that sick hockey IQ stuff that *will* translate into scoresheet results, but even if it doesn't his value is becoming pretty clear to me.
they win getting absolutely nothing from Kakko and Laffy Taffy. I think Rangers are going to make moves at the deadline to win now. I think we have seen enough of their 2 top picks to know what they are at this point. I would absolutely include either in deal for Miller.
Where are the tears? Both players have been disappointments to this point. If they are going to make some big moves at the deadline they shouldn't hesitate to deal either one. Neither is becoming an elite player in this league. If the Vancouver ask is Laffy Taffy and a #1, the fact they ask for Laf shows you what most teams think.
If the front office mortgages the future for this squad
This is a good hockey team. They are not anywhere on the level of a team that can beat Carolina, Washington, Florida in a 7 game series
You trade a potential cost controlled perennial Allstate in KK or Laf for a good (not great at all) player in Miller and you should be thrown out in your ass
Your complaints about Lafreniere and Kaako sound like some of the same things I heard about Miller years ago. Kind of ironic that that’s the guy you want to trade young assets for.
Rangers and their fans got impatient with Miller. And then he was traded too soon
Is going to add at the deadline for sure. I understand your concern about competing with the better teams in the league. I felt the same way a few weeks ago. Hockey is a funny game and things change. They have a great goalie which is obviously critical in making a deep run in the playoffs. Miller has turned into one of the best power forwards in the league and he’s only 28. According to reports, he’s their number one target. We will see how it plays out but if you add a player like that and possibly another depth dman this becomes a very dangerous team.
RE: Really liking how Schneider plays in his own end
Smart and physical. I think he's clearly already ahead of Miller.
He is ahead of Miller. Miller has been really bad and needs to be traded for the top 6 forward this team needs. Having a 2nd pair D who gets benched at the end of games for Nemeth isnt good and wont cut it in the playoffs

Miller gets too tentative. also, at times, he really lumbers on his skates. Think we could get Pavel Buchnevich for him? :)))

The goal is not a cup
The goal is multiple cups
I agree and disagree.
I agree because the team is missing that extra goal scorer. They had it with Buch but foolishly traded him away. Miller is having a great season but not sure he is what they need. Coming midseason he could disrupt the chemistry.
I disagree because of Igor. The guy is a machine. He might not be quite as good as the Dominator but he is in that mold. Tonight was not one of Igor's better games and we all saw how much better he is than Campbell.

Thank God you are not the GM.
There are people who want to trade K'Andre Miller?
SERIOUSLY? And I disagree that he's been really bad this year. He's had bad games, sure, but al in all he's been pretty solid. He still has a ton of potential and will only get better through the years.
And did someone say they would trade Kakko or Laf for JT fucking Miller?
The best win of the year. They looked disorganized early on when TOR pounced for the two quick goals. But they really turned it on after going down 3-1. Excellent game by Reavo and Igor stopped 27 consecutive shots after giving up the 3rd goal.
I have tickets to the game in Raleigh tomorrow. Hope the snow that is predicted doesn't effect plans too much. Forecast seems to call for a little less chance of precipitation than originally thought.

Wow. Just wow.
Not sure what you are watching re: Miller. He has been awful all season and I've been saying this on Twitter all year. Just refuses to hit anyone, always pokecheck pokecheck pokecheck. He always gets benched in the final few minutes when protecting a lead. He is 6'5 but plays soft and small. We have to trade for a top 6 and find a better 2nd pair D. Someone will want his "upside"
If Miller doesn’t pick up his game I can see them dealing for one. They might regardless with so many assets. Also, regarding Miller, the Canucks would not accept either Kakko or Lafreniere straight up for Miller. We can talk about not dealing either (that’s fine) but neither have been very good for any extended period. They’ve played with the best players so we can’t use that excuse anymore.

I’ll be at the game Friday myself. I hope you are right about the snow. Should be interesting game. Both teams coming off of big wins.

Awesome! Should be a good one, hopefully the weather doesn't cause people to sour on going to the game. This is a big time matchup, and would hope the atmosphere reflects that. Should be a pretty solid contingent of Rangers fans as there always is down here.
I have been watching the weather like a hawk. I ended up getting a hotel near the arena since the greatest chance of snow actually shows to be during the game and I didn't want to chance driving back home in the dark in the snow.

He's played just over a season had some struggles so now he has to be traded?

The kid is what? 21? Someone with his size and speed don’t grow on trees. He hasn’t been awful all season. That’s just not correct. He’s had bad games, but he’s also had really good games. His issue is that he’s still somewhat raw given that he’s only been playing defense for like 5 years.
And I wouldn’t look into his benching in the winding minutes of games. That’s what coaches do: they play the defensive defensemen more to protect the lead. It’s why we used to always see AV move up Kevin Klein to pair with Marc Staal instead of trotting out Dan Boyle, who was Staal’s usual partner. When you’re trying to protect a lead, you don’t take many risks. You play the defensive defensemen. Before you know it, K’Andre will be in that position as he becomes more well-rounded. He’s already damn good as it is. Should he be more physical? Sure. Same with Gauthier. You’d like for them to use that size and strength of theirs better, but that doesn’t mean you throw the baby out with the bathwater.
If Miller doesn’t pick up his game I can see them dealing for one. They might regardless with so many assets. Also, regarding Miller, the Canucks would not accept either Kakko or Lafreniere straight up for Miller.
Yes, they would. That’s absolutely ridiculous and the last thing we need is a Tyler Seguin situation.
The Rangers have a logjam of talented young defensemen - Miller, Lundkvist, Jones, Schneider, Robertson. They aren't all going to stay in the organization. Some of them will be dealt.
The plain fact is that Miller has been very shaky this year. He frequently gets caught out of position. He turns the puck over a lot, often because he looks as if he's afraid of handling it. And yes, for such a big guy, he doesn't hit much.
With the usual small sample size caveats, what I've seen of Braden Schneider and Zac Jones has impressed me more than I've seen of Miller. He may have the higher ceiling because of his physical gifts, but I don't think he's a better defenseman than those guys right now.
I would easily trade Zac Jones and Lundkvist before I trade K’Andre
Hajek should be traded. Fringe player. At best a third pair guy.
No place for Reunanen.
Schneider is likely the successor to Trouba and his 8M per year contract
I don’t know a lot about Robertson, but I heard he’s a very well-rounded defenseman. I heard someone say he is basically a LHD Schneider.
Lundkvist is alright. The jury is out. It’s his rookie season, but he’s looked somewhat underwhelming. Still, he’s a rookie.
Zac Jones is an excellent PMD. He’s just undersized and will get taken advantaged of in his own zone. Much like Fox, he relies on his smarts and sound positioning.
2nd too!

Needs to get better on the dots.
Something to be said for that
