Flores on all the GM candidates list per Ian O’Connor

bigblue12 : 1/19/2022 9:04 pm
Brian Flores is also believed to be on the head coach list of all 3 Giants GM finalists, but since he's not currently employed, no permission requests required.

I initially wanted him, but the more I read...not a fan.
I’m good with this
Chris684 : 1/19/2022 9:14 pm : link
He definitely needs to be interviewed so the GM, whoever it may be, can figure out what exactly happened in Miami.
He's also reporting

Schoen and Flores have spoken over the last few days as well.
He needs a solid OC.

I would rather a offensive coach at this point

I tend to agree with this point. I like Flores but who would be the OC? The offense is what has struggled the past two years. I am partial to brining in a HC with more of an OC mindset as well. We need to unlock the talent we have on the offensive side of the football.

Be offensive coordinator is irrelevant.. what matters is how good of a coach he is.. being able to identify good coaches to your staff matters more than was side of the ball the HC specializes in.
The two coaches before

Judge were offensive guys, how did that turn out?

I'm very pro Flores.
Buyer beware

On these “bright” young offensive coordinators.

They aren’t much without a top QB. McVay had some success right away with Goff + Gurley, then couldn’t sustain it when Gurley couldn’t overcome injuries and is now having great success again with Stanford.

Staley, Taylor, Matt LaFleur, Daboll, Bienemy. These guys all have the best QBs in the league. How “brilliant” are they really?

Not trying to disrespect these guys but my point is it’s still a QB driven league.

Flores plus a solid #1 QB and that team might really have something.
I like Flores
dancing blue bear : 1/19/2022 10:28 pm : link
but to the OC point, he went through 2 OCs his first 2 years, then had Co- OCs this year.

The Belichick guys have a reputation for being hard on staff. something to consider.

I am weary of 1st time head coach this go around considering our recent history. Flores would be a coach I am def. interested in

Well, Garrett is still technically on the payroll

(This is sarcasm btw)
Really dont have an interest

The NE connection definitely scares me, and while I dont think he deserved to get fired in Miami, it's not like he was lighting the world on fire.

Very concerning that he went through offensive coordinators basically every year and never found a good one. Seems like he wasn't easy to get along with as far as his coaches went.

There's a lot of red flags there that just make him a no go for me.

If we're going to hire a coach that is a defensive guy and has HC experience, Dan Quinn would be a far better choice. Not saying I want Quinn, I don't, but if my choices are Flores and Quinn I would take Quinn 100%
and if you look
Mook80 : 1/19/2022 11:26 pm : link
at the 8 teams left in the playoffs.

6 of 8 are offensive coaches.

If there's a no brainer defensive guy, I wouldn't be against it. But I dont see the no brainer. Flores certainly isn't. He probably deserved another year in Miami, but he's now becoming way overrated as an actual coach after the firing.

Why do people like Flores more than Quinn? Quinn's resume is far better.

I dont know what to think about Flores. It feels like hes simultaneously the safest and potentially disastrous pick, if that makes sense.
people do seem to think
Mook80 : 1/19/2022 11:31 pm : link
he's a safe pick but I don't agree with that at all.

Dan Quinn is a safer pick imo. I really dont see it with Flores. People are just blatantly ignoring the multiple red flags.
With Flores you really have to find out what happened
Snablats : 1/19/2022 11:50 pm : link
with him and his offensive coordinators because he ran through a few in a short time. Were they hired for him or did he make the choices? If our new GM hires him, then we already know they will be on the same page - which was Flores other issue in Miami (he and GM not getting along)

Is it a Coughlin 2006 deal, where TC was told to change or be canned - so he changed and won 2 Titles. Maybe our new GM will tell Flores he needs to lighten up with the players and coaches, cause that seems to be the problem
Flores Coaching Staff
Giantimistic : 1/20/2022 12:10 am : link
Defensive Coordinator will be Patrick Graham--still under contract. Although somewhat joking, it could be a possibility.

Special teams coach Joe Judge--expensive coach that we are still paying. :)

It would be interesting if Flores was the pick if he would stick with any of the Giants current coaches--he may have a connection with some of them already as well.

The most obvious keeper is Tom Quinn because it is hard to break his lifetime contract.

No, it isn’t. Dan Quinn was 1 game over .500 with the Falcons. In fact, Matt Ryan’s career winning percentage is FAR superior with Mike Smith as his head coach. Brian Flores was 1 game under .500 with a torn down roster, the immortal duo of Fitzmagic and Tua, and no one remotely resembling Matt Ryan or Julio Jones. Yes, the Falcons were Matt Ryan stupidity away from winning a Super Bowl, but based on the rest of his time there, that season was more an anomaly than anything resembling the norm. Their point differential that one season was +134, best in the NFC. Their PD for the rest of Quinn’s career was -37.

For all the complaints about Flores and his offenses, I’d argue he got the most one possibly could out of ancient Fitzmagic, noodle arm Tua, and their skill position players like Parker, Waddle, Gesicki, and a pile of interchangeable RBs.

Was quinn the head coach wen atlanta blew the lead to pats?

Was he the guy who didnt jus run and kick a FG to add to the score?

Im not sure quinn is free of red flags

Because he realizes you don't win in today's NFL without an elite QB? Drafting choir boys hasn't really worked out for the Giants recently.

In ATL, that get's blamed on Kyle Shanahan, not Quinn or Ryan.
