I'll say this about Flores

Producer : 1/19/2022 9:55 pm
He is probably not my first choice. I generally want us to have an offense-minded guru, but:

1. He is not afraid to speak his mind to power, and he stands up for his convictions.

2. He knows the difference between a decent QB and a great QB, and he comes to the conclusion quickly.

These two qualities, taken together, could make him a great head coach.

He understands that you don't build a great team around a limited QB if you can help it. I like Tua, but he's not Watson, and that's critically important. Rather than settle, Flores was pushing for the great QB.

That doesn't mean if Flores comes here, he will push to bring Watson, but it may mean that he won't make the same terrible mistakes that we have been making for the last 5 years. I don't think Flores would settle for a diminished Eli, who was well past his expiration date. And I don't think he would settle for the bumbling, ineffective Jones for very long.

This is the most important quality in a HC. Picking the QB. Making sure you have the right caliber QB. And not kidding yourself that a mediocre QB with a good roster is good enough.
Does anyone know 100%
eric2425ny : 1/19/2022 10:16 pm : link
that Flores:

1.) wanted Herbert over Tua?
2.) wanted to trade for Watson?
3.) stood up to management about his QB ambitions?

I’m not saying he didn’t, but there’s no evidence that any of these things is definitely true so I wouldn’t base my hiring decision on speculation.

I hope they stay away from Flores. The Belichick coaching tree is complete garbage. It’s clear that Belichick is micro managing the Patriots and that’s why they have been successful.
Proof!? I don't need no

stinkin' proof.

I will speak it into existence, bitches!

I am so looking forward Flores becoming the HC.

Just so I can see the Producer’s reaction when Flores says how much he likes Daniel Jones and that Jones will the Giants QB.
That's the reporting as far as I know
Producer : 1/19/2022 10:51 pm : link
The owner and management wanted to hear he could build the team around Tua, and he wouldn't say it.

He speaks to power.
He stands for his principles.
He can identify a great QB quickly.
And he won't settle for a lesser QB.

I'm reading between the lines, obviously. None of us knows the man. None of us was there in Miami.

But this seems interesting. That's all I am saying.

If he didn't want Tua. He's not going to want Jones.
I heard he wants to give Barkley

a huge extension.
Flores

Therefore, using your logic.

If Flores is the Coach and he selects Jones to QB, then Jones would have to be a darn good QB.

I can't wait
Is Wilson still a great QB?
Giant John : 1/19/2022 11:07 pm : link
I’m not so sure of that. How does that enter into your thinking of Flores?

If he didn't want Tua. He's not going to want Jones.

Again, clickbait reports he didn’t want Tua cannot be proven. The constant changing of OC’s is a proven fact.

According to some theories around here, if we didn't draft Jones than Miami (along with Denver an WFT) would have. Which means Flores may have loved with he saw in Jones... ;)

Red flag for me!
I want Terps to weigh in
eric2425ny : 1/19/2022 11:39 pm : link
Not trying to call you guys out, but the QB aggressive posse is typically Producer, bw, and Terps. It seems the first two are split on Flores so I’d be curious to see what Terps thinks.

For the record, I respect all of your posts and opinions. I agree with some of your posts and some I don’t agree with. That’s what makes this board interesting.

haha..

Of course, I'm not certain about it. But it seems he took a principled stand in favor of the much better option at QB. If so, he was right.

This could be a good thing.

If he had taken a stand for something ridiculous, he would be a clown.

Not a theory, pretty well known fact.

Also fact is that Miami, Denver and WFT couldn't pick a QB to save their lives. If there was interest in Jones from them, well...

Why hire a coach?
joe48 : 1/20/2022 9:06 am : link
If a coach tells you he can’t win with a QB or won’t take a job that would be a non starter. I doubt any coach would say that.

Not exactly sure what you are saying, but I think you are saying, why hire a coach if he says he can't win with the QB you have in place.

I think we want a coach who will be honest about what it takes in the NFL today, period. Not to tell you what you want to hear.

Brian Flores didn't tell ownership what they wanted to hear. He told them what he thought and stood by it. He stood on principle. And what I am saying is that the principle he stood on, was correct. Get the best QB in the world that you can, and not try to win with mediocrity. Which the Giants have done for 5 years and counting now. It is a failing strategy.
I don't get the love for Flores
HomerJones45 : 1/20/2022 11:29 am : link
except from the anti Tua faction.

Miami started the year 1-7 including losses to the Jags and Falcons which cost them a playoff spot. They were basically out of it at the halfway mark of the season.

I am coming around to the view that the Belichik coaching tree should be avoided. They seem to come in with an attitude that they know everything better than anyone else and they pitch fits when they don't get their way.
