Shurmur as OC - any interest

Jim in Forest Hills : 1/20/2022 8:50 am
Don't know if this is scorched earth territory but I like Shurmur as OC. Especially pairing him with someone like Dan Quinn. If they draft a new QB to groom, would you entertain the thought of bringing him back?
No
mittenedman : 1/20/2022 8:51 am : link
That's bad business. He wasn't exactly thrilled with his time here either.
When was the last time a fired coach

returned to their previous employer as a coordinator?

Genuinely asking..
in a vacuum yes!
Fat Wally : 1/20/2022 8:52 am : link
but he would never come back here, especially because they are still paying him.

Didn't Dave Campo come back to the Cowboys as an assistant? that was weird.

Bill Arnsparger went back to Miami immediately after the Giants fired him. And didn't Mike Shanahan return to SF after Al Davis fired him??
I would not be opposed to it
KDavies : 1/20/2022 9:00 am : link
though I don't see it happening, and would prefer younger up and comers, particularly if we have a defensive guy as head coach.
Doubt Seriously
varco : 1/20/2022 9:04 am : link
He will have other options and would probably not be willing to return to work for the Giants. I know I wouldn't if I were in his position. Not even worth thinking about.

coached the Raiders twice and was fired twice.
Hey Pat? Listen, it's (NY Giants GM), got a second?
j_rud : 1/20/2022 9:12 am : link
Yeah, the team that fired you. Remember the low point of your career? Sure, team whose most recent coach talked some not-so-subtle-shit about ya recently, one in the same. So listen, watcha doing next fall? Cuz we're thinking reuuuuunnnionnnn!

There are some instances sure. I just think the recent history is so poor that any kind of retread is a non-starter.

You do any more thinking on Neal vs Cross?
He had his shot here
Big Blue '56 : 1/20/2022 9:19 am : link
and could have really helped the O by being the playcaller, a reason why he was hired here in the first place (see, Keenum, Case) imo, but opted to delegate PC elsewhere. We saw what happened.

Why
NJLCO : 1/20/2022 9:26 am : link
Would we want him? Oh he brings what to the show? His brand in NY is what?
How do we come up with this shit day after day. Find so winners and stop chasing previous nightmares

Fans wanted him gone even if Fangio remained.

"On December 26, 2021 in week 16 of the 2021 NFL season game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Shurmur's offensive game plan made Broncos history as it yielded 40 offensive plays, eight first downs, and 158 yards of total offense. which is the second-fewest in a game in which the Broncos had a true quarterback playing in the last 29 years.
The run offense managed just 18 yards on 16 carries, which is tied for the third-fewest in franchise history."

But probably can't. Especially in NYC.
Why go backward?
JonC : 1/20/2022 9:40 am : link
NYG needs to move forward and find the right men to build and guide the program.

a fired HC return to that former team as a coordinator
A) he wouldn't come back
Gatorade Dunk : 1/20/2022 9:41 am : link
B) are you just hoping to fool yourself into thinking DJ is a good QB?

Shurmur turned Case Keenum into a really good QB for a year. Where are each of them now?

Don't buy Fool's Gold.
Shurmur is rather thin-skinned
JonC : 1/20/2022 9:43 am : link
and didn't seem very comfortable here, being under the microscope, answering the questions and second guessing seemed to be torture for him. It's also apparent this played a role in trading OB. Me thinks this is not the place for him.
Hmmmm…..

Note: He just got fired from his second job in 4 years .
Yeah, let's not go back.
Beezer : 1/20/2022 9:59 am : link
Clean slate. With so many potentially talented people available, no reason at all to give us flashbacks of any kind.

I have the same question on Joe Judge.

For instance, imagine if Flores is hired as HC. Say he wants Judge as Special Teams / Assistant Head Coach... That would be some sort of history, wouldn't it?

I actually wonder if having had previous NY Giants head coach as part of the staff again, with their history in the building and with the players involved, can actually be a very beneficial thing for a new coach coming in.
That shipped sailed. Doubt he would never come back.

I doubt it would happen,
Section331 : 1/20/2022 10:50 am : link
but if a new HC wanted to bring PS on board, why not? He's a good offensive coach who has shown real skill in developing QB's. Especially if we draft a QB this year, we could do a lot worse.
To Compare Offenses This year
Costy16 : 1/20/2022 11:00 am : link
Broncos
19.7 PPG
330.5 YPG
211 Passing yard per game
119 rush yards per game

Giants
15.2 PPG
287 YPG
188 Passing yards per game
99.3 rush yards per game

I wouldn't want Shurmur back here as an OC.

stay on as DC than to see Shurmur return as an OC. Also remember JJ pretty much called out the state of things when he arrived following Shurmur. It won't happen.

Pat Shurmur is an IDIOT

I have NONE -- 0 -- No interest what so ever in Pat Shurmur and his DINK DUNK No running the football 2yd passing offense. It doesnt work in the NFC East especially in the winter cold and snow.

I never liked Shurmur or his philosophy in play calling. Hell when he was the HC calling plays, he would run the Football and it was successful he immediately got away from the run. It was mind boggling on how when something proven to work in the game and he would just STOP DOING IT , I would get so pissed off because when running the football is working then for no reason stop doing it, that type of thinking lost us games.

NO THANK YOU Keep him out of GIANT BLUE

Huh? He was the playcaller. Mike Shula was the OC, but Shurmur retained playcalling duties.
