Do you think BBI is required reading for any new GM's/HC?

Tom from LI : 1/20/2022 12:55 pm
Kind of like in the on boarding process.

Ok pick your health care. Good, good.

Here is your company issued laptop. We already bookmarked all important sites along with your required BBI training.

Whenever you doubt a decision you have to make, just create a handle and float the idea to the BBI community.

If it is really bad you will get a swift thought process adjustment by the 5000+ Arm Chair GM's and Head Coaches.

A majority will love you at first. Most will lose the affection for you in less than a season if you don't win every game and have a top 10 offense and defense along with a QB not named Daniel Jones.

Some will even stick with you in the really bad times.(these are the ones that probably don't throw anything out at home)

We have to warn you, there will be a group that will hate you regardless of how many championships you win them.

They are known to eat their own over there.

So there's that.

Now let's get you a copy of that book,
"Touched by the hand of God
a GM's guide to picking gold jacket players"
by Dave Gettleman.

Hey, if he is still in the building we can get him to sign that for you!

I'm no GM

but it's not a bad idea to use BBI to gauge the opinion of fans before you do something.

But honestly I don't want a GM that's worried too much about what fans think. Maybe Hanlon would do it to give feedback to the GM.
Ok

if the GM and/or Head Coach is reading our website for anything other than recreational purposes

They should have someone

Yes, BBI Is Required Reading For New GM, If For Nothing Else Than

Don't let this be you in 2 to 4 years !!!

It should be required to block BBI

a lot of deep insight into BBI's requirement for a new Head Coach to be gleamed around here..

Must be a prior Offensive-minded Head Coach who posted winning seasons. Candidate cannot have made any prior bad decisions from drafting/FA through in-game decisions. Also, must bring an all-star staff with him. Coordinators must've been prior coordinators with winning records and no blemishes. No college coaches, no promotions...

New GM.."Aww sweet, never would've though of any of that! Now to scroll through the list of all the available candidates who meet BBI criteria........."
Required reading for the GM and HC? No.
81_Great_Dane : 1/20/2022 1:21 pm : link
Required reading for the PR staff? Absolutely. The GM and HC shouldn't be reading this site — it's not a great use of their time. But the PR team had better be taking the pulse of the fans.

Honestly, the Giants would be smart to treat Eric and BBI like a media outlet and provide occasional interviews and media access, if they're not already doing so. BBI is not exactly a kindly, warm environment but sometimes it's better to try to soothe an angry coterie of fans rather than just pretend they don't exist.
Required? No,

but might be a good stress test.
NO

I do not want the GM's thinking contaminated by BBI.
I want the GM's Football knowledge used to make decisions.
Is this a serious question?
pjcas18 : 1/20/2022 1:29 pm : link
GM - yes, its fine to read BBI to keep a sense of humility. Obvious

Head Coach - no way as BBI gameday threads are just brutal.
Hell no. The less they know

of the fans' mindset, the better. Devise a plan and execute it, don't let fan input influence decisions.

After the contract is signed?
arniefez : 1/20/2022 1:43 pm : link
It's probably an excellent idea. Before we could scare the good ones away.

In all seriousness though I think this is an excellent question. Answering off the top of my head I would say yes. That it would help a GM and coach to understand how the game and fandom is perceived by us crazy lunatics who cyber yell and scream and fall in and out of sports love daily or even hourly on game days. Most of us think we know more than the coaches, players and media - sometimes it's clear we do. It would be nice to be proven wrong.

I'd tell the GM and coach to read BBI from the perspective of how to and how not to communicate with the fan base:

For the GM. Give us a path to solutions. Not we want to play heavy handed. We're going to stop the run and run the ball. What team doesn't want to do that? How are you going to do it? What type of players are you looking for? Does the team need more speed? More power? Both? Every year the entire world knows who the Giants want to draft in the first round. The leaks are in the building for life so you won't be giving a way company secrets. You can play things close to the vest and still communicate with us. If a question gets to a point of a trade secret just say we're keeping that private. We'll love that since the Giants have rarely kept any personnel moves private.

For the coach:

If things are going poorly don't lie to us. Say we have to be better, there are no excuses and move on. Don't call out your players but don't tell us they practiced well. There are no medals for showing up at your job. Losers talk about practice.

Never tell us you have to watch the film. Never ever use that phrase. Say something different even if it's I'm not ready to comment on that yet.

We're not stupid. This is NY we watch every game and no matter how sports frustrated and angry we get we want you to succeed. We know if your team is playing hard or not and if your team is well coached or not.

Don't give the other team too much credit after a loss unless they deserve it. Don't lose to Washington and tell us that's a fine team over there. We know better and we know when you're lying. The last coach told us he was lying to the media. That's one of the many reasons he's the last coach.

For the GM and the coach:

Every minute of every football day should be focused on three things, Beating Dallas, Beating Philadelphia, Beating Washington. Every personnel decision should be focused around winning the NFC East. The Giants have won the NFC East 4 times since 2000. The last time was in 2011. All three of the other teams have won it multiple times since.

The Giants haven't had a home field advantage since they moved to Met Life. Aggressive Giants defense = Giants home field advantage. Build a punishing aggressive defense that we can get excited about and Met Life will become a tough place to play. Just like Yankee Stadium was in the late 50's and early 60's and Giants Stadium was in the mid to late 80's. Employ a DC who wants to play man a lot and rush the QB. Bend and don't break puts us to sleep.

Win the NFC East. Win a home playoff game. Win the Super Bowl and New York will put you in the NFL Hall of Fame.

There is nothing on here for a HC to read that his worthwhile (not a criticism of BBI but just a reflection of the job of a HC)
The GM maybe to know what the fans (basically his client base) thinks so that he could effectively communicate when he addressed the fans to frame how he answers certain questions or what info he decides to leak, via the press, to the fanbase.
Lol

Can I get that Gettleman book on Amazon?

It may be good for the new GM to read some of these threads. Maybe they will actually focus on offensive line instead of drafting an endless string of defensive backs.
If a new GM believed that,

whenever he gets depressed about the work ahead of him he can read BBI so he can laugh his a$$ off.

Or, maybe just go without a GM and have BBI vote on every issue, draft pick, free agent contract and trade option.

Lol, we’d have 20 QB’s and 20 offensive lineman if that were the case.
No different here than any other pissed off dedicated fanbase

Where I live, I see it with the Broncos fans, although they havent quite hit rock bottom like we have. But if they ever go through something like we have the last 10 years, yeah....and as that franchise really isnt used to losing...at all (check their record by season since like the mid 70's), could even be worse.

You REALLY want to see pissed off....go on a college board when a successful team (OSU, Bama, Georgia, LSU, etc...) loses A GAME...not multiple losses, but A game....:). Great entertainment there!
Maybe BBI,

Considering that a pocket of intellectual BBI'ers correctly diagnosed the team, and how to fix it, while themselves being responsible for this amazing change by our beloved Giants.

Curious what other long-time problems in the world BBI has influence over.
