The Athletic’s Brugler has us taking a QB in round 2

Brugler has New York using a second-round pick, No. 36 overall, on Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder.

That would seem to indicate the Giants would hold on to Jones for at least one more year while Ridder learns the ropes.

Ridder is coming off a season which saw him lead Cincinnati to a school-record 13 wins and a berth in the College Football Playoffs, with the Bearcats losing to Alabama in the semifinals.

Here’s a scouting report on Ridder, who’s scheduled to play in the Senior Bowl, from ESPN:

Ridder is one of the most polished throwers in the country, with a résumé to back it up. He is a lanky dual-threat prospect who can win from the pocket, but he also is a dependable option in the running game. He’s a long-strider who can pick up yards in a hurry, taking off only when it’s designed or when plays break down. When escaping outside of the pocket, he’s great about keeping his eyes up in search of reappearing targets to dump off passes.

“From a mechanics standpoint, he’s picture perfect,” (said) a scout for an AFC team. “[He] plays with a good base, nice over-the-top delivery and follow-through. He’ll have some awesome throws and then follow that up with sailing a pass over the head of the running back. His ball placement is inconsistent and deep passes flutter a bit. If he plays well in the playoff and down in Mobile [at the Senior Bowl], I think he’ll rise because he’s super sharp.”

wouldn't mind that

1 OL & 1EDGE in the 1st. 2nd OL in the 3rd along with a TE.
Seems a bit premature

We don't have a GM or coach....

It would be funny if our new GM selects the QB from the Senior Bowl.
"super sharp' and sails passes over RBs...got it

could be good...could be bad...thx
I really liked him when he beat ND

but the more I watched, the less I was impressed. Kid's a winner though.
This sounds like Jeff Hostetler situation all over again
MartyNJ1969 : 1/20/2022 3:03 pm : link
but a good insurance policy against Jones. Hostetler was insurance against Simms for many years,

He'd be my choice if they want a QB in the early rounds

I think it is 50-50 Strong will be there.

He's starting to get a bit of buzz owing to his unique arm strength. Could see him go somewhere #16 to #32.
I have no problem with the Giants taking a qb, as long as it not
Jack Stroud : 1/20/2022 3:25 pm : link
before the 6th round. Oh, and no RB's or TE's before the 6th round either. This draft has got to be about getting a dominate oline and once again building a Big Blue Wrecking Crew defense.
I would take a QB in the first 3 rounds
Giantimistic : 1/20/2022 3:33 pm : link
Even if Jones has an amazing season, we need depth at the QB position and competition for Jones. I do not want another Glennon on the team.
I would see what we could potentially get for a backup QB in FA
BlackLight : 1/20/2022 3:50 pm : link
before committing to a QB in the draft.
I think Ridder is not an NFL QB

I don't think arm strength alone will do it unless he can show he is not a statue in the pocket and it was just Nevada's scheme that he did not move around more
If I were running this draft for the Giants, and I wanted a QB in Rd 2

I'd be looking to trade down out of the #7 spot to the middle of the round in order to pick up an additional 2nd round pick. End up with two firsts, two seconds, two thirds -- then take a QB.

If they use their only 2nd round pick on a QB then I would expect to hear bad news about Daniel Jones's neck.
I'd like that pick.

I like Ridder, and I think he has as much a chance to be the guy as Corral and even more than Pickett. I don't like any enough to use a top 10 pick on, but this would be fine with me.
I will add that I think Ridder will rise
Section331 : 1/20/2022 4:38 pm : link
up the board as evaluations come in. He's got all of the tools, and he has the production to back it up. I could see a few teams liking him.
i hope not

pickett i think at least has a chance to be ok. the others i don't see the point in wasting a pick on

This guy sounds like the kind of QB that easily went #1 overall years ago and scouts are probably conflicted.

This is kind of how I see it too. I'm not opposed to taking Ridder with a 2nd if we have two of them.

Some really nice throws in the reel. Very accurate. But I do understand Heisenberg’s point about him not looking like an NFL athlete.

Ridder's not my favorite QB in this draft,
Go Terps : 1/20/2022 7:13 pm : link
but I'd be fine with this. Taking Cincinnati to the final four is a big deal. He was also super productive over his four years, with 10000 passing yards, 2000 rushing yards, and 115 total TDs.

He also won a ton of games - a ridiculous 44-6 record as a starter.

There's a lot to like with this guy.

Well, if he wins the MVP of the Senior Bowl, he's guaranteed to be a Giant. Haha.
