point to Schoen. But how can anyone us know who is the right choice without having the knowledge of the inner workings of each organization. Silly. Just hope for the best whomever we go with.
I do believe this is the right guy to modernize the entire structure. This is a very forward thinking individual whom I have seen a number of 49ers beat writers suggest is the real brains behind the operation in San Francisco.
even if they have identified a person and even if they have a pretty good idea of what a contract might look like, they won't want to make an announcement until the contract is done, which I'm thinking could occur as soon as tomorrow but maybe more likely would wait until the weekend.
Besides, the sense I'm getting is Shoen is the guy and they might have made more progress on the specifics of a contract since Tuesday, so maybe that could happen more quickly. But both these guys will be engaged this weekend so more likely we won't hear anything final until Monday/Tuesday, but we could get a leak that they've agreed to terms before that. I'm on pins and needles even though I have no idea who they SHOULD pick.
We have achieved our objective. We got the Giants and the Maras to hire someone from outside the organization who apparently will have carte blanche authority to make personnel decisions.

yeah many 49ers fans want Lynch to be promoted to VIP so Peters could have been the GM. Peters and Shanahan I read run their drafts, and he has a good track record.

Mission accomplished.
Well, the "outside the organization" part is right.
It remains to be seen if "carte blanche" part is actually real. That's the most important piece here.
I think he’s the best of the three by far. I do think they go with Schoen, though. Too much smoke around the giants supposedly wanting him. Plus the Parcells connection which seems silly but you know the Maras love shit like that.

This has been my thought all along.
Can we really have a valid opinion about any candidate who has been an assistant GM, but not a GM?
At least with head coaches we can look at their track record and with college prospects we can watch "game film" (YouTube highlight videos) and form a semi-educated opinion.
Can we really tell anything about an assistant GM just based on whether their team has been successful?
Not jumping the gun and saying everything is wonderful

Exactly. Seems like three quality candidates being discussed and that is the most we know and can hope for...
Do we think we will find that out in real time if he books a flight out of NY area?
Same
If necessary, the introductory press conference can wait until Monday.

How would the giants GM announcement take away from playoff games?

Seems like the NFL doesn’t want hirings at the end of the week that will take away from the games on the weekend.
How would the giants GM announcement take away from playoff games?
Because it’s a story in the news cycle.

Sure you can. There is a lot of intel out there on Peters, for example, that he is the guy the 49ers brass lean on heavily during the draft.
Oh well, need young Jimothy and Kyle to extend the season another week!!
