Just wanted to take the pulse of BBI...
From what I've read about all these candidates I'm personally hoping Peters is the choice, but at the same time I wouldn't say there is anyone that I would NOT be happy with.
All seem very qualified, come from successful programs, and have the right balance of experience + youth.
Since it seems like it will be one of these three, is there anyone you would NOT be happy about the Giants hiring?
The lack of connections with the traditional Mara network is refreshing. He has a good chance to be a very strong GM and, while I like all the candidates, he’s my preferred pick.
Just to be clear, the Lance decision was NOT Peters, although Peters was a big advocate. If you read about that decision making process, that was really Shanahan and Lynch. They didn't tell anybody in the franchise until draft day.
The story goes that Shanahan and Lynch decided to seriously consider a QB in the 2021 draft. They went to watch all the top QBs throw. Sometimes together, sometimes apart. Both decided to not tell each other who they liked until they met a few days before the draft. When they met, each revealed that their top selection was Lance.
Just so we have this straight, Peters is the de facto GM and Lynch is just there to wine and dine *except* when it comes to trading 3 first rounders for Trey Lance?
Yes. That's how the 49ers decided to handle that opportunity.

I had never heard that story.
Niners went from #12 to #3 with their deal, and it was done about a month before the Draft. So they damn well better have been ecstatic at that time with at least two other QBs not named Lawrence who was always going to JAX #1 overall.
I'll link the story, but that's how it went. It was a very strange approach. Lynch was relieved when he and Shanahan met, and they had decided on the same guy - Lance.

Maybe its a good thing he has the guts to go after a QB just surprised this isn't mentioned much
So you don't have to google:
The 49ers spent the capital of three first round picks and a third round pick on Trey Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft.

That’s why i don’t buy bw’s story - they trade up a month before, and then agree to meet a few days before the draft to trade notes? What if they had different names as their top selection? Who would they have drafted?
And - as CIP said - he was the de facto GM, except deciding on the QB of thr future, which is clearly one the biggest decision a franchise has to make?

Thanks bw.
Good reads and this one really points out what I was suggesting...that while they made the deal a month earlier it is because they were already confident in Lance and Fields as being "franchise QB" types and even Matt Jones as a potential one.
So their preliminary assessment was done and they used the last 30 days to narrow it down to Lance vs. Fields. And they both concluded on Lance...

apologies, bw - didn't mean to imply that I thought YOU made the story up; I meant that I didn't find the story itself credible.

If this exact story had come out about the Giants, there is not enough bandwidth on earth to contain the amount of shitposting you would produce about Jints Central.

All good. I didn't take it that way.
Thanks bw.

Imagine after this - below - they didn't agree. Based on their authority levels, I think Shanahan would have made the call. That would have been a bit awkward.
San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch didn't want to color each other's opinions after swapping first-round picks and trading two future No. 1s and a third-round selection to Miami to move up nine spots in this year's draft. They knew they were going to take a quarterback at No. 3 overall, that much was clear. But which one?
