First look at the coaches that remain in the playoffs.
Only 2 out of 8 have a defensive background.
Second - Foreword thinking: Everyone talks about the Giants playing the modern game, well the future is offense. The rules are tailored for fantasy football. Analytics favor aggressive action on 4th down, going for two in situations and dynamic play calling. I think we are all tired of punting, playing bend don’t break field position football.
Last Point - Where are the Giants inept? Offense. An Offensive minded head coach will have a better understanding of just how to fix the personal issues and bring in players that fit a new modern system in coordination with our new GM.
Can it work with a defensive guy? Yeah, but I don’t have that faith that the right coordinator will be brought in. I don’t have faith a defensive guy will have the predilection to be aggressive enough on fourth down, etc.
To get the best offensive mind possible you probably have to give them the head job with a promotion.
Counter points:
-Four of the last 10 Super Bowls have been defensive HC's. Denver while having a OHC was led by its defense. Pete Carrol won with his defense. Since going more "offensive" he has not even been back to a AFCCG. McVay, for all his accomplishments was thwarted by a defense HC in the SB (13-3).
Hire the best HC.
A good Offensive HC will have issues if his DC is not good. A good team needs good assistants!!
You know one name we might see, especially if they annoint Flores?
Ken Dorsey, who is the current pass game coordinator in Buffalo.
Interestingly he was not loved by all the fans. Bama fans are a tough bunch.
Imagine if they'd have hired DHC, Bill Belichick after Parcells? Oh the irony.
Good coordinators and position coaches will take care of the rest.
Coordination: everybody on the same train in the same car.
Let’s Go Big Blue!
