No one likes or wants to be a negative Giants fan, but the team has given us little to root for. Here is a guy I think worthy of support. Schoen never worked under Gettleman. He was gone from the Panthers 5 years before Dave got there. Schoen was with the Dolphins from 2008-2017.

we have been down this road before too many times and this team is operating at around the level of an expansion team.

Not one pro bowl player on this roster and alot of horrible expensive contracts to reconcile going forward.

I'm fully expecting this year to look like Gettleman's first year in Carolina. He was saddled with cleaning up Marty Hurneys mess in Carolina. So he cut all the big contracts, took the dead cap hits for the first 1-2 years and rebooted everything.

I think after a year evaluating him next season, it'll become quite apparent the franchise needs a new direction at QB. I'm as confident in that occurrence as I am of the sun setting in the West.

let me explain. It was reported that the Giants and Schoen had been "talking" through back channels for some time. That would indicate that he was a "pre-determined" choice (as expected) from the Mara's. they put on this "legit GM search" as much to make the fans happy as anything else.
But a funny thing happened on the way to the Alter. They came to find there were "many" qualified candidates, that they liked, and could see running their organization. They were able to see how Schoen stacked up against the competition and ended up choosing him partly because they were most comfortable with him, and also he stacked up well against the competition.
So they ended up having a more legit search then they may have intended and got a VERY qualified guy to lead them forward. (whether they let him do his job is the million dollar question as Eric stated).

As far as Jones goes, personally I don't think they can win with him. BUT, I can't believe he is as unproductive as he showed under Judge/Garrett. He was pretty productive under Shurmur, so what is he? Good question for the new HC and OC.

college: QB and WR, and worked his way up from ticket office intern and long time scout. Nobody just handed him a management position.

Gettleman was part of the construction of some excellent Giants teams. He was not some hanger on, he was instrumental in teams that gave us great joy. Whatever you think of him, he is more skilled at talent evaluation than any ten of us combined.

Mebbe. They've got 51 players under contract next year, one of the highest in the league, but almost no dead money. 25 cuts is going to equal an awful lot of dead money, a problem we don't currently have. Solve one problem, create another.

When 2022 starts there will be zero players that were on this team in 2017. That 2017 roster was FAR better and more talented than this present one. I wouldn't get too attached to any of these players.

With an actual professional at GM now I imagine we'll begin to be reacquainted with what actual football talent looks like. It's good to finally have hope again.

And as for being more skilled at talent evaluation than any of us, he proved to be worse in real time than a bunch of BBI posters. If I had a Delorian I'd be happy to go back in time and replace that slob with JonC.

And I'm not even going to mention Sy'56, who spun circles around Gettleman with his drafts.

You don't look like that if you have enough energy to light a room. We hired a has been and it is why we are now worse than the Jets.

Draft room video from last year and Joe seems to be doing a lot of the work. He’s taking calls, discussing trades, etc. Beane is definitely the leader but Schoen is heavily involved in everything.
