Schoen first comments as GM

BeckShepEli : 1/21/2022 12:03 pm
"It is an honor to accept the position of general manager of the New York Giants," said Schoen. "I want to thank John Mara and Steve Tisch and their families for this tremendous opportunity. And obviously I am grateful to Brandon and the Bills for the experience I have had in Buffalo.

"Now, the work begins. My immediate focus is to hire a head coach, with who I will work in lockstep with to create a collaborative environment for our football operations. We will cast a wide net, it can be former head coaches, first-time head coaches but, more importantly, it has to be a person who possesses the ability to lead an organization and the ability to motivate and develop players. On the personnel side, we will begin to evaluate our roster and prepare for the draft and free agency. Our goal is to build a roster that will be competitive, have depth, and most importantly, win football games."

This is cute. How about his players enjoy a week over .500 first?

When 2022 starts there will be zero players that were on this team in 2017. That 2017 roster was FAR better and more talented than this present one. I wouldn't get too attached to any of these players.

With an actual professional at GM now I imagine we'll begin to be reacquainted with what actual football talent looks like. It's good to finally have hope again.

And as for being more skilled at talent evaluation than any of us, he proved to be worse in real time than a bunch of BBI posters. If I had a Delorian I'd be happy to go back in time and replace that slob with JonC.

And I'm not even going to mention Sy'56, who spun circles around Gettleman with his drafts.

Lol there won't be that many players or Jones left by 2024, so unless they're winning a SB next year
They should take a flamethrower and holy water to this roster

We will never have to worry about any narrative of the next head coach winning with DGs players. It simply won't happen.
Good luck Joe!

A low energy dinosaur.

Low energy??? One thing Gettleman cannot be accused of is low energy. The guy had enough restless energy to light a stadium.

At least the new GM has seen a rebuild first hand and been part of it. Step one to trying to be competitive again.

Gettleman was part of the construction of some excellent Giants teams. He was not some hanger on, he was instrumental in teams that gave us great joy. Whatever you think of him, he is more skilled at talent evaluation than any ten of us combined.

You don't look like that if you have enough energy to light a room. We hired a has been and it is why we are now worse than the Jets.

Draft room video from last year and Joe seems to be doing a lot of the work. He’s taking calls, discussing trades, etc. Beane is definitely the leader but Schoen is heavily involved in everything.
