Giants fans be happy, actually elated, for the hiring of Joe Schoen. First step in changing culture there

riiiiight.

IMO culture is established when a well executed plan is in place with longevity as it takes all phases to be in sync to work. One and done good seasons isn't a good culture, prolonged success is.

Strahan legit cut him off when Glazer said that Kevin Abrams might be next GM. That had to have hurt Mara when he saw that clip.

If we start 1-5 yet again, we'll have our pitchforks at the ready.

that being said, by all accounts a promising hire. Now let's all hope he nails the coaching hire.

same with the Roman Legions.

Having said that getting the alchemy right is a challenge, can turn out laughably and embarrasingly bad very often when you try to set the culture of an organization right.

Given the salary cap etc, it's likely that it will take more than a year to get on track

Dude, we're going to suck next year regardless. 1-5 is definitely in play with the major rebuild that's going to happen. The release of lots of big contracts and an influx of young players. People should be prepared.
Giants will have a terrible record again next year

This is a long-term thing. IF the owners stay out of the way, the fan base will be patient.
Giants should tank next year
armstead98 : 1/21/2022 12:39 pm : link
Not intentionally try to lose games but cut as many bad contracts as they can, bottom out, and get a top pick.

Very likely. Purge and draft. As bad as its been though, we could see some decent football by the end of next season. The bar isn’t high.

I think “culture” can be used as a buzzword, kinda how Judge used it at the end of the year to save his job.

But the term culture can mean accountability and competence throughout an organization. For example, looking at how horribly the Giants have been run throughout the past 10 years, you’d think they would revamp the guts of the organization. But instead it’s really just coaching staff and and GM’s going down as the figureheads.

A big test will be whether or not Schoen is able to start from scratch and build his own scouting department/player personnel.

What do you mean about Strahan cut him off? This story intrigues me but I don't think I'm understanding what you mean. Thanks
First step check
Les in TO : 1/21/2022 1:08 pm : link
Second step head coach
Third step - restructure scouting and personnel departments. Reassign Chris to head of in game promotions and Tim to EDI
Organizational competence is a culture. Making smart decisions because
mikeinbloomfield : 1/21/2022 1:13 pm : link
you've got the right processes in place to identify those decisions is a culture.

By all accounts, any of these candidates would have established a "culture" where picking players didn't come down to seeing them play at the senior bowl, although that's part of the process.

They are going to lose, lose, lose while they are in transition to the roster they want to build. And I'm all for it.
The Giants will be bad for awhile
George : 1/21/2022 1:18 pm : link
Everyone will need to accept that, give the new GM and coach a lot of leash, and be patient.

In other words, keep on keepin' on bein' BBI.

building a team of football players.
I’ll repeat what I’ve said before: there a guys who play football, and there are football players. We have too many of the former, many of those with big contracts.
Let it begin.

Paradoxically, a really bad won-loss record in 2022 might be a sign of progress. If you do a true rebuild, you probably need to bottom out. If they cut salary and jettison underperforming players, the cupboard may be mighty bare come summer. I can live with short-term pain for long-term gain.
