CBSSports put out a piece a few weeks ago detailing a list of potential GM's in this hiring cycle based on talking to a number of people on the list. This is what the writer said about Schoen:
"Joe Schoen, Bills assistant GM: Among all the names on this list, no one's name was mentioned more to me than Schoen's. Considering the diverse amount of voices and backgrounds cultivated to make this list, that speaks loudly. The right hand of Brandon Beane in Buffalo, Schoen is going to be a GM either this year or next."
was hired by the Panthers in 2013. Schoen was hired by Parcells in Miami in 2008.
Exactly. Gettleman and Schoen have probably never even been in the same room together but yeah, let’s twist ourselves into pretzels trying to connect the dots..
is if anyone had influence with Giants ties on Mara here, it was Parcells.
Or the fact he helped Beane and McDermott transform a franchise with a long history of losing into a Super Bowl contender in 5 years. Bills had 1 winning season from 2000 to 2017. Sound familiar?
Get me wrong, I love the hire and optimistic for the future. But I wouldn’t be shocked if DG gave Mara a list of football people he knew/respected and we know from the 2017 search he trusts the reccos of former GMs!
that if Schoen even said hello to Gettleman within the last twenty years, half of BBI will want Schoen gone before he even gets off the plane at Newark.
New York Giant PTSD is a real bitch.
Chill guys. What will you do when Schoen does something within the next three months that you strongly disagree with? It’s going to happen, so prepare yourselves. Holy fuck, this place is going nuts.

Buffalo coach Sean McDermott and GM Brandon Beane were criticized for cleaning house in personnel in 2017. Among Beane's hires ...
• Brian Gaine, who became Texans GM in 2018.
• Dan Morgan, who became Panthers ass't GM in 2020.
• Joe Schoen, who was named Giants GM today.
There obviously is a connection. The Giants ownership always operates under some sort of familiarity.
Schoen seems like a strong pick with a solid resume, but the more conservative choice out of the finalist. If they wanted to really stray from their comfort zone, Adam Peters would've been hired.
The test for Schoen to me is what he does with Koncz and Pettit in their positions.

So it's not like he was a well kept secret

But only point is that if there was someone who was an ex-Giant who influenced this decision, my guess it was Parcells.
Agreed.

Beane loved Gettleman therefore FMiC loved Gettleman.
So, let's assume FMiC loves Schoene.
Is there a FMiC hex possibly at play??? ;)

you fucking people will never be satisfied.
Sure they will, just as long as every thread devolves into " Gettleman sucks". Personally I think it's a bit boorish. Boring as well.
Great handle. Cave rules!
Not true in the slightest
