He literally went to three straight NFC Title games with Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick as his QBs. The first one he lost in OT, the second one he won, and the third one he lost in the end zone on the final play. The Super Bowl he also lost on the final play. In other words, this guy was a tough freakin out and his teams played until the bitter end at the highest levels.
Moreover, he won at SD State, he won at Stanford, he might not have done everything people envisioned at Michigan but he still took a team to the playoffs and won a Big Ten Title.
This guy is about as no brain a hire as you can have. A young and progressive GM with an experienced HC who is a winner can only make the turnaround a question of when and not if.
Please Joe Schoen, make the call!
Says who?
Make the call and let him tell you that.

... however the full control thing if true disqualifies him. Also I'd be afraid he would leave 2-3 years in.
Make the call and let him tell you that.
He wouldn't say it. He'd just bitch and moan about not having it.
Yup, and he's making much more money at UM than I'd wager NYG will spend on a HC. They spent much more on Judge than I expected, but I also think they lost their damned minds with hiring him on the whole.
This is obviously a possibility, but the difference/gap between him and the rest of the potential candidates is so freaking big that you have to make that call. He is a great football coach (maybe a bad guy, maybe not a bad guy and just a quirky one who know, but investigate).
Do we want someone who's going to bail after a couple?
No coach is going to get to the NFC Title game three years in a row without a lot of talent, but the fact that he got there three years in a row speaks volume of his coaching ability, especially without a game changing QB to get there. I'm not saying the guy is a magician, but if you put him with a guy who can bring you in talent, you will win football games with this guy. And, we need to get out of this mess; he might be an ass, but he represents the best chance to get out of it. Plus, I want a coach that I can believe in again.
Schoen might go with someone he has ties with and might not want to work with someone who has a reputation of being a difficult asshole. But i agree he's the best choice and should be interviewed if he's really interested. I would hate if he went to Dallas.
