The Giants were never terribly concerned that Joe Schoen might take an offer from the Bears or anyone else because Schoen told them during the process that they were his No. 1 choice.
What’s he going to say during an interview? “Well, uh… I prefer the Bears roster but here I am in case you guys want to hire me. But if Miami comes calling then screw both of you guys.”
but to Ted Phillips who has been with the org since 1984. The structure their is actually more toxic than its been for the Giants (if you can believe it). 23 years as team president and only 6 playoff births to show for it

^This. Their end of season news conference was even crazier than Judge's 11 minute rant.
RE: From a roster perspective the Giants are attractive
Plus not everyone was a fan of Justin Fields. There is a reason other QB needy teams decided to roll the dice on DB's rather than taking Fields or Mac Jones. Not to mention lacking a 1st Round pick in 2022 Draft makes it difficult to fill needs.
RE: If asked, he probably would tell every team that.
And yet you spent hours regaling us that Chicago was the better situation. Fun times.
I never said Chicago was the better situation. I said, and I quote, "If the tiebreaker is QB"...
The conversation was about which QB situation was better.
It's disappointing that comprehension is still such a problem area for you.
Yes, Fields was very impressive! He made some great throws? Bfd. So did Jones at times..Fields may become solid, but I wouldn’t base it on what I saw last year. And I watched most of the Bears game on GamePass because of my rooting interest in the Bears first we received
Fields was a mess in 2021. A few flashes, but a mess otherwise. Based on everything I read here being saddled with someone else's QB is a deterrent not an attraction so clean slate Giants seems to be the more ideal QB situation, no?

I agree. Maybe someone like Trevor Lawrence (a consensus #1 pick, etc.) would change my mind. But Fields isn't that.

Field struggled - no doubt. But watch those San Fran, Pitt, and Green Bay games in the second half of the year. There are some high-level splash plays he made both with his arm and his legs. It's a very impressive skill set.
Unfortunately, he may be stuck in organization hell playing for that dolt McCaskey. That guy is a real problem.
RE: RE: McCaskey's press conference was very concerning...
I don't know how anyone could watch that and feel good about working for the Bears.
McCaskey made it clear he's hiring the HC and the GM.
He made Mara seem competent.
And yet you spent hours regaling us that Chicago was the better situation. Fun times.
Yup, he said Justin Fields was the reason Schoen would choose Chicago over NYG, when the prospect of rebuilding NYG from the ground is much more appealing than being saddled with a QB he didn't draft
Schoen certainly evaluated Fields when interviewing with Chicago
The Bears probably said he couldn't trade him because they spent two first round picks to select him. Schoen probably thought he could get a better QB for NYG (not Jones, somebody else not on the roster currently) and thought the QB situation actually is better here than Chicago because of that

I said if the tiebreaker is QB, the Bears were the better option.
But McCaskey is hiring HIS HC. So, Schoen couldn't hire his HC like he'll be able to do here. The division of power and decisions making in Chicago make the GM job weaker than here.
Hope that adds color to your world.

If Schoen thought Fields was a franchise QB he's picking Chicago over NY for sure. No pressure on him if the franchise QB is there. He just has to pick the rest of the roster and they're contenders, regardless of the ownership mess in Chicago.
NYG were contenders with Coughlin and Eli from 2005-2012 with John Mara owning the team, so if you get the right HC and franchise QB it's possible to contend anywhere, even Chicago, as dysfunctional as they are

Why on earth would QB be the tiebreaker when you have just outlined why the situations are not remotely equal?
Disclaimer: I know I am wasting my time by arguing with a professional troll that has done this for 25 years. I guess I am just feeling nostalgic.

I don't think you can say Chicago's QB situation is better. He had a less than stellar rookie year. All anyone can do at this point is hope that he gets better. That's not a given. If the Bears hire Jason Garrett as their OC, Fields could look as bad as Jones has the last two years.
bw are trolls. They have strong opinions which I have disagreed with. But they have been pretty doggone consistent in what they have said about DG, JJ and Jones. They were right on DG and JJ. I somewhat agree, well more than somewhat agree, on DJ. At this point, I do not DJ think is the guy - the Rams game was my turning point. I think he is a lower level starting QB.

Terps is definitely not a troll. bw in dc absolutely is. His history on here is plenty proof of that. Many years ago he had an equally strong opinion as to how badly the Giants sucked and then he disappeared into thin air as soon as TC and Eli started to win Super Bowls. He left the site. For years. As soon as things started to go downhill again he came back. I’ve seen Terps be positive when the team earns it. bw in dc goes dark when there’s nothing to complain about

Why can't I say that?
Look at our QB situation. Jones's future is uncertain. When he's healthy, is game is wildly inconsistent. And he struggles to stay healthy. So our QB situation is completely up in the air. Until we have ANY direction, I don't think it's unreasonable to say Chicago at least has a very talented, young, athletic QB.
My view is Fields is a more talented QB than Jones. And he showed some very interesting flashes.
Let's see what direction the Bears go with HC, GM, OC, etc. If I'm a Bears fan, I'm not feeling great about the actions of McClaskey.

As long as he can really clean house in the front office.
And yes I am making a joke.
McCaskey made it clear he's hiring the HC and the GM.
He made Mara seem competent.
He does get more leeway I think with Giants than Bears and better operational control.
Bears job has a lot of historical appeal too, but the current ownership and structure looks too troublesome.
McCaskey made it clear he's hiring the HC and the GM.
He made Mara seem competent.
Yup. It was terrifying. I know a few Bears fans who have said they will never win again until they get new owners.
