I can't believe any fan of this team wants or thinks we need to draft a QB. What have you been watching the last 6+ seasons? We need to fix both of our LINES first.
give him a shot to compete for the job--- and build the team through the draft otherwise.
Agreed. Let the 2 still young guys compete. Build the rest of the team and if an opportunity arises in the future for a stud QB, you take him. Until then, continue to put the pieces in place around a QB.
to the promise land then they would be stupid not to take him. However based on what Ive read and seen I dont believe there is a clear QB like that in the draft. So personally Im all in for DL/OL.
This team is such at a low point, that it can’t afford to throw in a new quarterback with a high pick and destroy him. These quarterbacks class is not valued as higher. The Giants are not going to be good in 2022. I expect a high draft pick going into 2023. That’s when we should get a quarterback. Build both the defensive lines and offensive lines. I’ve had enough of this bull crap with the offenses not working because of no passing or running game, due to awful Oline play. I don’t care if the Giants first three picks are invested in the offensive line. And this is coming from someone who really wants an edge rusher.
RE: You can't evaluate the roster if you have an inept QB
they think they can pick one who will be a top 10 NFL QB. They don't have one now. This year, next year, the sooner the better. The NFL is a QB driven league.
Eli did not do too well after 2011, as the old line was failing. This problem has not been fixed adequately since. If Schoen and staff are very much intrigued with one of these quarterbacks, then so be it. But, it doesn’t appear that this quarterback class shows the potential to have impact QBs.
to build BPA, by BPA at a time. New GM and new HC have about as long a honeymoon as can be had in today's NFL.
In a pre-free agency era, Jimmy Johnson turned the Cowboys around in 4 years.
2022 should be an "out with the old" year. Take any and all cap hits in 2022. Bring in an abundance of young players. Let them play. Tell the fan base, "It's always darkest before the dawn" and that unfortunately, 2022 has to be as ugly or uglier than the recent past, but it has to be done to clean out what wasn't working.
Could go 3 - 14 in 2022 and still be encouraged. Another top pick in 2023 along with cap space to selectively fill in the gaps in the roster.
Hopefully some real progress in 2023; maybe close to a winning record at 8 - 9, with making the playoffs in sight for 2024.
you can spend (or trade draft capital) to improve other areas of the roster. Only rarely (and under extenuating circumstances) can you find a superstar QB that way. Most people as far as I know are not arguing to draft a QB in the top 10 just because they need a QB and should take the best one available. The argument is *if* they identify one that they think can become one of the best in the league.
I generally agree with the OP with the exception being a consensus franchise QB being available. I think most agree there isn’t one in this draft. Given the cap and abs in the draft, build the OL and Defense, purge dead weight and then solve the QB.
Why? If no one wanted to hear from the usual suspects then maybe the topic shouldn't be brought up or do you prefer everyone to say amen with no counter balance.
Hey, why not, he was such a success in Chicago! Put him in behind that oline and he is doomed to fail! Fix the oline and give Jones a chance, he could surprise.

Simple. I would prefer no more discussion, pro or con, on THIS subject. It has been beaten to death x 20,000..Every point has been made over and over and over and over again ad nauseam..There is nothing more to discuss on this topic until and when the new HC/GM weigh in or make their decision, pro or con..

So you clicked on a thread entitled "All of this QB talk" because you don't want to discuss the topic or have anyone else discuss it, and you thought we should all know that?
I like you, BB'56, but if people want to discuss a topic to death I don't understand how that impacts people who don't want to discuss it, or why we should allow random posters to decide what is and is not open for discussion in the forum.

I opened it because I thought there might be a discussion on bringing in Trubisky or Mariota or a draft choice with the new GM and future HC in place. Usually, Jones is mentioned somewhere in the thread start which allows me to avoid it altogether most of the time
Should not even consider drafting a QB if the value is there. I don’t think you go into the draft with any position off the table. I imagine the Giants will rate and chart every position.
Before you blame all that passing woes on the line, how do you explain that the Raiders that have a line ranked two spots ahead of the Giants by PFF made the playoffs, Their passing stats fall in the top half of the league. They were 8th in passing yards per attempt and 6th in passing yards.
I would not draft a QB in round one but if Willis is there in round 2 I think he should be in consideration. Also who is our backup QB. The ones we put in were not inspiring. I like Jack Coan from Notre Dame as a prospect in late round 5 or round 6.
Unfortunately I don’t see a Franchise QB in the 2022 Draft Class
I would use picks number 5 and 7 to get a OL and a defensive playmaker that would be starters next year
Also it is
My opinion at this time that their is not one prospect in this upcoming draft that would have been in the top 10 of last year’s draft.

That's fair, but why bash "the usuals" (ie - the posters you don't agree with) rather than the OP who brought this topic up for the 1,000,000th time?

Just giving a dig..bw, who is dreadful, is one of my dearer friends offline..😎
you don't wait for everything to be perfect and then say, "oh, let's get a QB!".
How is this so hard to understand?
Because the thought that 22 being a horrible QB class and 23 being the best ever has spread faster than wildfire and been repeated so often it's an immutable truth now

You don't, but the likelihood is that there is at least one great QB there.

A veteran HC with the time to build a solid staff should be able to get even a bunch of rookies to 6 wins.
Agreed. Let the 2 still young guys compete. Build the rest of the team and if an opportunity arises in the future for a stud QB, you take him. Until then, continue to put the pieces in place around a QB.
I prioritize evaluating QB over the rest of the roster first.
or we can just keep doing the same stupid shit like we have the past 10 years.
I guess maybe you don't watch much football?

What do you think he would cost? 1 year only, or multi?
It seems unlikely a QB grades out highly enough. But if someone does, we should go after him.

At the same, since 2015, we have had a QB problem, too.
So, both circumstances are true.
But this football axiom remains - if you don't have a franchise QB you don't have a competitive NFL team.
31st Passing Yards
30th Passing Tds
31st Net Passing Yards/Attempt
30th Passing Completion Percentage
30th Passing TD percentage
32nd Passing Yards/Attempt
31st Quarterback rating

That sums it up well. That's why all of this talk of trying to time the 2023 draft is just dense.
