Schoen and Peters were two great choices

Do you think the determining factor was Schoen has proven to be able to get his QB (Josh Allen).

For all the good drafting record by Peters he was the director of college scouting in Denver when they selected Paxton Lynch in the 1st round. And the jury is still out on the big trade for the 49ers with Trey Lance.

Good question

Although we will never know, I think it’s was that Schoen was the safer pick, little more conservative and buttoned up. Peters more brash and progressive
I think and hope the

Determining factor was building a front office from the ground up.

From what I read Beane and Schoen did just that in Buffalo, revamping the scouting department and FO. Peters never really had to do that with the 49ers (no fault of his own).
Peters supposedly was responsible for something like 27 of the 50

players on the Denver Super Bowl roster. I wouldn't be so quick to denigrate his record over one pick. Schoen's picks haven't all been home runs either.

I'm not sure its safe. I think Schoen had his hands in more departments than Peters. Peters from what I understand really just focused on the draft side of things for Lynch. Schoen was basically Beane right hand man with everything.

But Schoen helped build up there scouting and analytical staff which was horrible. I don't know if Peters has all that on his resume.

No denying peters draft history...its pretty extensive. But the giants need to hire a ton of new front office people, build out an analytical staff, and find an entire coaching staff. Schoen probably got the edge for that.

But at the end of the day its a QB league.

Peters was my #1 pick. I love what he has done and there is no denying he is one of the best evaluators in the sport. It wasn't to denigrate his record. I was just figuring out the thought process.

Schoen has a bit more experience in other departments so maybe the edge went there because the giants need a complete overhaul.
Both come from different philosophies on team building

Bills prioritize players that can fit multiple systems. Niners prioritize players that fit Shanahan's system. Which is better? Who can say.
I don't know if thats the answer

But personally thats the reason I was leaning Schoen. He identified or was part of a team that correctly identified Allen as an elite talent who could excel at the NFL level.

Peters, so far, has not been part of that team.

I gotcha. The optimist in me hopes that was the case. The cynic in me wonders if it's just the Parcells connection that wooed Mara.
