Ah, remember the umlaut.

Once, I pronounced to my German colleagues that the weather in Hamburg today was "sehr schule" as in "very humid". However the same word with an umlaut translates to "very homosexual/gay". They laughed and corrected me on the pronunciation of the umlaut!
Danke schoen

In Yiddish also means beautiful, as in shayna punim (beautiful face).

and the lead moron talking kept mispronouncing it as Shone.

it was ponderous to say the least...
in German it's not really pronounced like 'shane' though -
Del Shofner : 1/21/2022 5:00 pm : link
it's sort of in between 'shane' and 'shurn.'

I'd say the actual word is pronounced like 'shoon', the Norwegian cognate skjønn is kind of like 'shun' and the word schon (meaning already) is closer to shin.

Shane is a common anglicization of the word though
I thought it was skone for awhile

Jim Schoenfeld was not "shane" but more like "shon" (short o).
