and Chytil is not a center. The Rangers are still a few key pieces away from the elite tier. They have no money to spend after this year. Drury is going to have to thread the needle to find the missing pieces with the money he's got left.
Absolute DOG SHIT effort by the Rangers in every fucking face imaginable. Piss poor effort, Kakko and Miller are softer than baby shit. The effort has been an atrocity. Treating the puck like a live grenade. The shame of it is 50% of the building are Rangers fans.

Sorry to hear - thanks for showing the colors in NC
Miller is an abomination with the puck. The decision to play Georgiev combined with this effort was an all around coaching and player failure across the board.
- 1st order of business: what does 'legitimate contender' signify? If it means will the Rangers be in the SCP? Almost certainly, yes. Will they go deep into the SCP, beyond the first round? Almost certainly, maybe. An indication as to that cunning prognostication may come as soon as tomorrow night, when they play Jints in Carolina's Canes, 1st time this season.
- we will recall that it was the Canes' 3-0 non-competitive wipeout of the Rangers in 2020 coupled with the team's ineptitude vs the Conf' Finals bound Islanders that exposed the Rangers as pretender, not contenders. Ultimately, it lead to DQ being relieved of his job and the hire of GG. It's only slightly extreme to wonder if that same dichotomy still pertains===>> and if the Rangers are outclassed, which is not beyond the realm of possibility (Canes wasted a hot Bruins team Tuesday, 7-1, in Boston), all the talk of the Rangers' weaknesses (badly in need of productive RW, play 5 on 5, leaks on d, line matchups, don't match up well with speed and skill, viz. Avs, Flames, Leafs (??)) will come front and center again.
The defense was porous. Rangers got badly exposed tonight.
And it's amazing how invisible and ineffective Kakko can become in some games. I mean Gallant played Ryan fucking Reaves on the first line over Kakko. This team has no RW depth. Dryden Hunt on the second line? Pathetic.
So I'm not too upset. I do not understand starting Georgiev though. You have the best goalie in the league and you sit him against the best team in the league? Strange.
Last night truly magnified how much of an epic failure the handling of DeAngelo was by the Rangers. Imagine him with Fox? They just cut bait with the guy and got nothing in return. Complete failure by JD and Gorton last year. It’s also one of the reasons they were stuck having to go get a bum like Nemeth on the blue line.
Is he the guy that was on the Rangers and they cut him supposedly for racist and other stuff? Or am I thinking of someone else?
They cut him because JD and Gorton are woke softies and he apparently got into it with Georgiev after a game. This is hockey, not badminton. It’s also been said Georgiev is not the greatest teammate.
This was an all time blunder by the Rangers. DeAngelo has more points than all other Rangers defensemen besides Fox.
two small under 6' 180 lbs RH defenseman? How is that going to work? DeAngelo was expendable. JD and Gordon destroying the asset like Drury did with Kratsov was really bad management. Both things can be true at the same time.
The whole DeAngelo saga was was weird to me. Seemed like beat writers wanted some narrative to be true, but no one in hockey that actually knows the truth would confirm it, so it seemed weird to me.
DeAngelo in juniors played LD and many D prefer opposite side, the solution would have been have TDA play LD with Trouba on RD.
And let Miller learn the position more in the AHL or on a bottom pair with less ice time and exposure. And TDA wasn't exactly Pronger in his own end, he struggled too, just not as bad as Miller and TDA's offense is worlds better than Miller's right now.
But expectations are probably miss-set for some of these players. And Andersson and Kravtsov should be considered separate it's not that they aren't producing, they're not playing for NYR and that to be is inexcusable and a different issue.
But for
Kakko:
he has the most games played in his draft class and is 2nd in points for his draft class to Hughes.
Lafreniere:
he has the most games played in his draft class and is 3rd in points. the two players ahead of him in points (Tim Stutzle and Lucas Raymond - and they (Stutzle and Raymond) have 33% of their points on the PP because their teams do not have a Panarin, Mika, Kreider, etc. already entrenched on the PP so they get those minutes). So Lafreniere gets dinged by fans because the Rangers were not a typical shit show team with the top pick who can slot that player in to 1st line and 1st PP unit.
Chytil:
was always expected to be a top 9 player, but questions always existed about if he was top 6 and if he was a legit NHL C. Nonetheless Chytil is 3rd in games played for the entire draft class and 10th in points. Only 2 players with more points than him were drafted after him (Jason Robertson and Drake Batherson - and with Batherson almost 40% of his points are on the PP and same thing at Stutzle).
These guys can all still be busts relative to their draft status, but they shouldn't be busts because people expect McDavid and Matthews with every high pick.
I have seen what I believe from Lafreniere to believe he will be a star in this league and like I said before Kakko may not be a star by some definitions but he will IMO be a consistent top 6 contributor. Defensively reliable with big game tendencies.
they're still too young to drink legally and people are already writing them off. Only in hockey.
I respect your opinion but there is no way Lafreniere will be a star in this league. If this guy wasn’t the 1st overall pick he probably be sitting some nights. I saw more in 1 game from Quinton Byfield the other night than I have in Lafreniere’s first year and a half. I hope I am wrong but don’t see it with this guy.

Nothing is guaranteed, but like a lot of these prospects I have the benefit (or opposite of that) of watching them come up vs their peer group. Many of us have seen them. So talent is not a question IMO with Lafreniere it's figuring out his role and getting used to the pace of the NHL game, succeeding in that role and expanding his role. There is obviously a chance he never truly does figure it out and he'll still have a career, but not what people wanted or expected with the top pick. I don't expect that to happen though, I expect him to get more and more comfortable and thrive. If we're still having the same "he's not old enough to drink, get off his back" discussion in two years then let's talk (obviously the words would be different since he's 20, but you get the point)

Have to admit I had a similar thought--and that was his first game this season after his ankle(?) injury.
we'll see, but yeah - the Canes' PP is a thing of beauty, unfortunately. That was a great deflection by the guy who scored.
On a separate note, is there less body-checking in the NHL these days? Was there a rule change? Or has the style just changed.
Let’s give them two periods before we declare the game being over…..
Nope, that's him.
at least first glance seemed completely legal.
And Kotkaniemi goes after Goodrow?
they need to find a way to get that bullshit out of the game.
That can be a momentum changing play. Since the Rangers are getting outworked in every facet right now.
Sorry to hear - thanks for showing the colors in NC

Chytil
All no shows.

Not buying it. Arizona is terrible. There was ZERO reason to play Georgiev, but he was hardly at fault. They were terrible for 2+ periods.
I think he immediately makes some of the other D prospects expendable.
Fox, Trouba, Schneider that's a really solid top 3. I think they get a 4th at the deadline. I mention Chiarot, but there are likely many options.
Miller may get there, but he's not there yet.
Guy is fucking TERRIBLE!

He's more like a future Lindros, but even without the injuries he wouldn't have started his career in the NHL, he had work to do.
