interviewing guys you've known for several years. You know the man and how he coaches. I guess the only thing left is to ask what exactly their philosophy would be if they had the keys to the castle...
candidates this year. Pederson (who has the mcdermott connection) and Quinn are viable. Harbough seems unlikely but you never know. If he is interested do you turn down that interview?
but in the end Daboll and Flores are going to be the most familiar, while each checking a lot of boxes.
I am really getting excited. I am actually proud of how Mara and co have handled this. I hope things are finally changing internally. It’s going to be a fun offseason!
Personally if your looking for a HC, there are some key areas you are looking for imo. He better be a true leader, Highly motivational, clear communicator, extremely competitive, and no nonsense type. Someone in mold of Belichick, Coughlin, Parcells.. Idk, I don't really see some of those key traits in Daboll, He might be an excellent OC, but head coach is another level.
with Flores is who is his OC. Easier to find good DC’s than OC’s. Also easier to replace a DC than an OC. Also easier to install a defense than an offense. So when an OC leaves, it’s a a more difficult problem. So I prefer Daboll who’s an offensive minded coach over Flores. Plus, Flores appears to be more different to work than Daboll - at least from a distance.
Just based on what he could get out of a very mediocre Dolphins roster this year that had every excuse to give up at 1-7. Not sure how many coaches can do that.
Outside of him, I like Daboll. That Bills offense is fun to watch and there is no doubt they are getting every ounce of talent out of Josh Allen.
The interview had to be done today, didn’t it? The Bills travel tomorrow and if they win Sunday, he can’t be interviewed until the Bills lose or after the super bowl if they win it.
Flores has an interesting back story and family.....
I thought about Schoen and the current Bills pass game coordinator would spring to mind as a good candidate. Ken Dorsey.
Going to be very curious how this all plays out.
I and BW have alluded to this before. My understanding is that Dorsey had a lot to do with Allen’s development. I would love to see him get the OC position.
off-season. Wouldn’t hate Flores hire but not sure how they make the OC work. Joe Brady has the highest upside among free agent OCs, but he’s a big gamble.
Limited prep time for Daboll. Guess his thoughts on the past mess here and this roster were not needed. This season maybe a complete scrap, and they will move on quickly from the majority of this roster.
In the past, the approach was more of how can the coach fix what’s in-place.
Good thing build from ground up, wonder how patient the fans will be here though.
Can Daboll handle the New York media? After the last melt down
he or whoever is hired better be able to. This isn't just X's and O's in New York.
Judge’s problem had nothing to do with this mythically tough New York media. He had a meltdown because he cracked under the pressure of losing, not some withering inquiry from guys like Vacchiano and Leonard.
Coaches have to handle the national media whether they coach in New York or Jacksonville.

You think managing the media in Jax is the same as in NYC? The time you need to give, the sheer number of media members in NYC. Despite the fact that the press is much more muted than they used to be, NYC media is still much harder on the local teams than media in every other city not named Philly and Boston. Sportsradio outside of the Bos-NY-Philly corridor are all cheerleaders for the home teams and use national radio crap for half the day

I am late responding, but to me the strategic decision is obvious. Hire Daboll as HC and Flores as his DC. Two for one!
The other way around does not work since Daboll is under contract.
Buffalo Bills
Play Caller/Tenure: Brian Daboll (Offensive Coordinator) - 3yrs w BUF; 7yrs as an OC.
Personnel Preferences: BUF used 10 personnel 15% (2nd highest rate) vs NFL Avg of 2%. BUF also ran 11 personnel at a higher rate than league average (71% vs 60% league-wide). [Personnel data comes from Sharp Football Stats]
Scheme: Daboll is influenced by Josh McDaniels’ Erhardt-Perkins style offense which he's modified to be multiple (borrows plays from several other concepts) and opponent specific. It's a spread offense with lots of different formations, pre-snap motion, and Play Action (abbreviated as PA as we continue). Run blocking utilizes multiple schemes (Zone, Gap, Duo).
Additional Notes: BUF was the 11th most pass-heavy team and finished 3rd in Passing Yards and Passing TDs. RB split may favor more Moss on the ground and Singletary as a pass-catching back and pass blocker. Moss can also contribute in the passing game but both will be affected by Josh Allen’s rushing in near the goal line as he’ll snipe some rushing TDs. TEs only got an 11.8% Target Share total. The OL returns all 5 starters and ranked 5th-best in Football Outsiders Adjusted Sack Rate last year. Daboll's offense ranked #2 in total yards and offensive points scored in 2020, the first such top 20 finish in yards, 2nd top 20 finish in points.
Would anybody be hot over Daboll today if Daniel Jones were his qb instead of Josh Allen?
I think this is a fair question to ask because would the Bills be this successful or even very successful without the great Allen leading them. If you say, “no, probably only mediocre” then why would Daboll stand out to be the Chosen One?
Yeah, I think it is either Daboll or Flores. And I'll be shocked if it is anyone else.
Why have you eliminated Jim Harbaugh? I’m sure you saw a link I posted that showed he is intrigued with the Giants job. Clearly his resume (49-22) is far superior to Flores (24-25). So why not Harbaugh?

There might be 10+ million reasons a year why the Giants wouldn't want Harbaugh.
I know. I know......but he would be a Ferrari at QB when since Eli we have had Chevettes...IMHO.
Watson would make skill players want to be here, want to go all out and add a level of excitement to this team that we haven't had since our beloved #10.
Plus, his escapability and pocket presence would hide a lot of warts with our OL.

No sense dealing with hypotheticals, just deal with facts.
You could make that case for Matt LaFleur in Green Bay as well, having Rodgers. Since it's a moot point, why bother.
Of all the candidates, I think I would prefer Daboll.
RE: Can Flores realistically get us Deshaun Watson???

Daboll. Go get a great defensive coordinator, and there are a couple available, we need an offense from tge 21st century. Flores fired his offensive coordinator 3 times, no thank you.
Don’t worry. It will be misspelled that way soon enough and in other ways on here consistently!
It’s got potential to go into BBI Misspelling Hall of Fame.
Just think of the Andrew Sisters (Bie Mir Bist Du ....).
The "e" on the end takes the place of the umlaut over the "o". :)
We should be grateful that Josh McDaniels and Mike McDaniel haven't landed on the coaching radar for Schoen. Either of those names would be confused for the other in perpetuity.
HC
@crusadersWR
Folks, this is going to be Daboll’s job barring a complete meltdown. Chances are he brings a veteran DC with him — which Giants brass likes. Two names to keep an eye on: Vic Fangio and Patrick Graham.

Unless Graham comes out and tells us that Joe Judge was the reason for his defense playing so conservative, soft and unimaginative then no, I absolutely cannot take anymore of Patrick Grahams defense. Would love Fangio

So, Daboll doesn’t get any credit for Allen turning in to what he is now?I hate to tell you but Daboll has had a huge hand in Allen’s development and he’s done a fantastic job scheming the offense around him and what he does well.
McDermott can run the defensive walk through/mtgs tomorrow AM.

Both owners were in the same meeting
It was more for the owners to get to know him.

Oh for fucks sake

Further confusion. The correct German pronunciation is "Shurn" with a soft 'r'.

Now Flores + Dorsey is interesting.
Better yet, figure out why Favre is pronounced Farve
"I think Schoen is a good move. But I don't know if I'd fully endorse Daboll".
In the past, the approach was more of how can the coach fix what’s in-place.
Good thing build from ground up, wonder how patient the fans will be here though.
But Dorsey intrigues me more. Reminds me of a younger Jim Fassel. He’s likely destined to be a HC some day. I believe his dad was a coach.
Flores
Dorsey
Fangio / Graham
I can dig something like that.
Also he doesn’t have to pretend to know the fan base or “NY toughness”. He doesn’t have to understand the NYC market and media. He is it. He lived it.

And most importantly, he really wants to be here

I don’t want to stay horrible on the OL for the sake of a QB who could go to jail or be suspended by the league.
