Schwartz: Schoen has full authority

Sean : 1/22/2022 10:13 am
Often times posters pick and choose an element from an article and run with it in the title. A lot is being made of Daniel Jones, but there are a few more items from the article:

According to
@NYPost_Schwartz
Giants general manager Joe Schoen has the authority to overhaul whatever he sees fit.

Schwartz adds that means the Giants will be ramping up their analytics usage and deployment. #TogetherBlue

To a Giants front office that has been very slow to recognize it’s own faults. That is completely understandable. Some believe words and some wait to see actions. Not sure why that is troubling so many posters these past few weeks.

It's been a 10 year bad relationship with ownership so some fans are going to need more than 3 weeks to see that the organization has really changed.

BBI morons? Impossible. (:

But in all seriousness, gotta love the way Sean has birddogged developments throughout the late season and off-season.

Pretty sure it was Sean who first spotted and then followed the Hanlon tweet and ensuing NFL_Scout/Valderosa (?) fisticuffs, and then Mustang Sally burner, as appetizers.

What a wild trip it's been, and will be over the next 24 months. Thanks, Sean.

Absolutely, definitely the latter two, Sammo85, as they in their current positions are DG appointees, though I think I could live with an Abrams if properly managed. We still don't know if he had much if any leeway once genius Gettleman made his brutal, brutal decisions in FA. And it may just be Abrams to whom Maras have most loyalty. But full authority is full authority. Let the chips fall where they may.

I couldn’t be more pleased or surprised with the developments so far this offseason.

I doubt Schoen keeps the personnel department as it is. They’ve had bad results and are not familiar to him. But changing a personnel department right before the offseason starts is difficult. I expect to see the new faces after the draft.

Odds favor that for the reasons you say, but it's not improbable that Schoen has good college scouting, non-Bills contacts with other NFL teams that he could bring in with jump in title and responsibilities right off the bat.

Yeah, I don't get why this keeps getting brought up. That seemed the likely succession plan until Joe Judge committed head coach suicide the last three weeks.

I think the majority of the board dreaded the thought but expected Mara to be Mara and pass the Giants Way baton.

I would love to know exactly what this means...

I think there will be at least one major dismissal, like when Getts fires Ross. I bet Pettit or Koncz are gone. Abrams and Sternfield will probably be protected

Does he deserve full authority?

Want to complain no matter what the Giants do. We got a GM many wanted and through a process that we were all calling for. Can we at least wait for a HC to be hired before we starting bitching?
Schoen and Koncz

Likely know each other. Both were with the Panthers intersecting front office at same time albeit at different levels.

Keep an eye there. Will be telling.

Sure he can. It may not be what he does but he needs to make changes whether it’s February or May I don’t care. Those three have to be fired. They were abominably bad in their jobs and need to be held accountable.

Also, that’s Schwartz opinion and the old orthodoxy. And it’s happening more and more. Gettleman fired quite a few people in the first week he was here. 49ers dismissed almost entire front office right away when Shanahan took over. Ditto Joe Douglas with Jets. More often teams dismiss personnel from being involved but keep them around on paper because of contracts and NDAs until May or June after the draft to avoid leaks.

I think what this sentence/paragraph meant is Schoen is going to need to keep people around so he can transition to how he wants his department to run and with the people he wants to run it.
An OP stating Schoen has full authority is just to queue up BBI

All valid comments of course, but also a bit flat at this point...

Looking back, the best thing Gettlemen did was getting rid of Ross. That guy torpedoed JR IMO.

Honestly that is really myopic and silly

Why wouldn’t the GM want to pick the brain of someone with inside knowledge of the personell and what went wrong? I would be suspicious if he didn’t.

Also never hurts to treat ppl right and show class. HC interviews legitimizes candidates. He passed up interviews last year and most ppl were happy about that.

It's crazy the shit you guys still come up with, pick his brain? After 10 years,I can't listen to that.
Sorry if this is a bit flat at this point...

No one who works for the Mara's has full authority unless full authority means he has full authority to ask John and Chris Mara for permission for anything he wants to do about current employees and future employees on and off the field.
