“He can’t make every throw,” a Dolphins defender told Omar Kelly. “He’s only going to take us so far. I’m wasting my career here if that’s what we’re doing!”
Although it wasn’t quite the same circumstance, and Eli hadn’t actually played yet
Wasn't Strahan's beef more about waiting for a rookie QB to mature and get up to speed than it was about Eli's skillset? Many veterans, late in their careers, express this concern.
Also funny because prior to the draft, Herbert had talk of being a worst prospect and had bust talk before he ever played a snap.
Hindsight is always a jam. Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen had their fanfare too, as did Dwayne Haskins and a smaller tier for Drew Lock.
As for the player: if true, anyway, shut up. The Flores/Grier/Ross stuff already stirred the pot. Just shut up. It sounds like a vet. Possibly Howard or Jones.
he looked a bunch better the second half of the season, which coincided with their winning streak. Much more decisive.
Prior to that he was a Matt Leinart-like checkdown machine. Guessing having Waddle was a big part of the change.
Still doesn't have the arm to make all the throws you'd want him to.

Funny, I don't watch a lot of college football, but I did watch a couple of Herbert's games to see what the buzz was. Probably the two worst games of his college career. Came away less than impressed.
And I tend to agree. Plus the guy is injury prone.
Flores reportedly wanted Herbert but the GM Grier and owner Ross both wanted Tua. Grier should have been fired as his draft selections and FA signings have been terrible. He won the power struggle over Flores but I think Miami will regret not cleaning house.
RE: To be fair, Strahan had a similar reaction when Eli was drafted
for throws 10-15+ yards downfield, he's bad. You're not winning championships playing dink and dunk.
This, take a look at Waddles stats for example. They turned one of the fastest receivers in football into a possession receiver because Tua can’t throw downfield. 9.8 yards per reception is pathetic for a player of Waddles caliber. It’s even worse when you consider that a big chunk of Waddles yards came after the catch.
It's crummy for a player to say this out loud, even anonymously, but this is the kind of attitude I'd worry about fostering in the locker room with Jones starting next season and continuing to play poorly. Most are just like "if he's bad better draft pick in 2023!", but that's going to grate on the players who rely on the QB for their stats and put our new HC in a less than favorable position
There were clear signs of this when he was with Bama against the better teams. At some point in the NFL, you have to make the deep out throws on a line or in the seam. Once the coordinators get a book on you your done if you can't. At least against the better teams.
WAS the reason Flores was fired . He’s not a fan of Tua and the guy was the owner’s pick. The owner wins that battle.
My issue with Flores is how he handled his OC ans he seemed rough on coaches in general.
Saw it in a couple of games this year, he can't throw the deep seam to Gesicki. Feel like he's a Pennington type, good game manager, but when you need a money throw, the arm fails him.

In that case I would rather get rid of the player doing the anonymous bitching than the player he is bitching about.

Yes, it was going with a rookie that he thought would take time to develop and not his physical ability as it is with Tua
Ryan Logan was wrong for the timing of what he said about Tua

Really liked Brady when he came out...would have taken him in the 5th.

We already traded OBJ away
I wonder if that is the real reason that he was fired?

since Luck. You don't get a 6'5" hale filled out NFL body, solid mobility, strong armed, good production, book smart prospect every year...

I would have just traded up in front of the Pats in the sixth.

He throws 0-10 yard patterns, and occasionally gets Waddle and/or Parker to make a huge play on a mediocre ball for him.
Tua is going to be a great back-up QB in 3 years.
