Most here want him to get out and “not let the door hit him on the ass on the way out”. My issue with Chris is not his qualifications to be in scouting, but he’s a horrendous manager (who may not care to be one). P
For those who don’t know, Chris Mara had extensive scouting experience before joining the family business. There were a number of players who were part of the two Super Bowls he pushed for.
The issue is as a dept head he has been abysmal. AND since he has reported to his brother there is a big hierarchy problem.
The practical solution is for Schoen to change the hierarchy. Tim Mc. seems to be well respected. He may be a better choice as a dept head. Either way, ALL dept heads MUST report directly to the GM. Makes Schoen the strongest voice in the room. John can weigh in but JS makes the calls.
Thoughts?
And arniefez had a good idea the other day - Chris should be renamed "Co-Owner" and leave it at that. Schoen can decide how he wants to use whatever talents Chris has.
A bold, forward-thinking executive would have questioned and addressed this in the interview and/or offer process. I obviously don't know if that's what Schoen is...
Agreed. The power of BBI to make meaningful changes in the world should no longer be doubted. Hopefully soon I am able to properly thank those guys and gals.
How about focusing on something else.

We don't know. It's assumptions based on assumptions.
But in typical BBI fashion, not knowing what the hell they are talking about doesn't stop anyone from running their yap.

Yes, we do. We know he's the Senior VP of Player Personnel, in the draft room, and does player evaluations that are tracked/logged into the existing system.
What we really don't know is his true influence.
YEAH!
I say we hang him, THEN we kill him!
YEAH!!!!

Too funny and exactly what this bloodthirsty crowd would want.
Under Joe judge the team was heavily loaded with special teams players and the drafted players were mostly from the SEC. Golladay and adoree Jackson were not getting signed unless judge met with them and gave his approval. It was also judge who recruited Kyle Rudolph.
I have yet to see any evidence that any player was ever forced on a coach that he didn't want.

Me neither

Ha, yeah titles and names.
Section- he’s a dept head that’s been largely responsible for the abysmal roster for 10 years. It is his responsibility to replace scouts doing a poor job. But it was DG who replaced some scouts 2 years ago and the last 2 drafts seem better. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to understand this much.
As far as Chris’ history, he scouted for I think 20 years or so (if memory serves) before coming back home. He’s well respected around the league because of that. He pushed for Bradshaw for one, despite the off the field issues.
I would say that the press really got the point across that the press and fans felt he was part of the problem.
IMO they will remove his title and allow him to still have influence but less to the public.
BTW there are worse owners than Chris Mara he has at least came up in the scouting department and has a ton of experience.
All VPs and Directors should report to Schoen.
As long as Chris Mara spends all of his time horsing around, the Giants will be better off.
My understanding after reading the article that Dan Duggan wrote on the Atletic this week about Chris Mara was that he was the one who really pushed for the Giants to draft Ahmad Bradshaw, which I never knew before.
IDC if either Chris have ownership. Do the job well, or take a back seat, or get out.

You clearly aren’t bold, or foreword thinking enough.
And call it a day...
How about focusing on something else.
Our knowledge base on “something else” is more or less the same.
If you’re going to ask about CM or CP, what in a decade have they brought to the table? Surely many have posted all the personnel misses…from the draft and FA.
What’s the net operating result of their being part of an horrid player personnel solution? Anyone who makes it to the NFL draft has been coached in middle school, high school and college. If they cannot be coached at the pro level, that’s a huge black eye on the Giants Player Personnel Department. If they didn’t have the drive to play in the NFL, what did the Giants miss on that other programs didn’t?
If John Mara is true to his word and values CM opinion, on what basis other than blood does his opinion really matter? What has Chris truly done with his extensive experience to implement analytics or better scouting, or was that something DG implemented when he arrived.
F—k the double-speak. Just be real.
Problem solved.
He's the effing owner, deal with it.
Problem solved.
I said the same thing earlier. Schoen needs to be the firewall here. Have CM report to Schoen and Schoen can decide how to value and use CM's input.
And you NEVER WILL.
You just don’t know - ( New Window )
Better him than Moe Howard.
Here's my story and I am sticking to it.
A friend of mine did some non-football work for the Giants about ten years ago. He was in the building at times over several years and became friendly with a few front office people. One of them volunteered this information:
When Chris Mara was passed for GM by Jerry Reese they placated him by giving him "contractual authority" to make the draft picks from rounds 4 - 7.
Some time later I happened to speak to one of the Giant beat writers and asked him about it. He said he had heard the same thing.
Also, I noticed that at one point it was Chris Mara coming out to talk about the later picks during the draft.
I do not know if this arrangement continued under Gettleman.

if true this is beyond disappointing.
