Jerry would want this. He is under contract so it would take big compensation. Over 25 years and counting since Dallas even played in a NFCCG has to kill him.
He does. There have been recent articles discussing this, which speculate that the Saints would want a 1st rounder as compensation to let him go to another team.
The Giants were outplayed by the Saints this year but one because of Sean Payton's boneheaded coaching decisions. Just saying. And it was his pigheaded arrogance that lost the NFC Championship to the Bears in 2006 (refusing to accept that the weather conditions meant not throwing the ball as much as he'd like). Boneheaded and pigheaded are not good looks!

Then Jerry will dump McCarthy and trade his 1st round pick this yr in 2 seconds flat. Payton has roots in Dallas and would love to come back to this city.
that's what I think Payton would bring. Look, we just hired a young, up-and-coming GM to build a modern front office-scouting-personnel operation. Let him get to work. Also, don't think Schoen wants to invite an ego-centric, potential source of head-butting over personnel into the process.
Instead of wanting the giants to pursue him people are worried about him going to Dallas.
Payton is on the short list of coaches who will want their own GM or to have majority say on personnel decisions. If you want Payton we were better off hiring him and then letting him decide which GM works best. Thats not how the Giants operate.
As much as I like Schoen i would have done that. As I mentioned like 400 times here, the Saints had 4 quarterbacks play this year and he still pulled out a 9-8 record. Very impressive.

Maybe he wasn't sure (and still isn't) what he's doing to do next.
Omfg any these Dallas rumors though. Would be a dagger to the heart.

Agreed on the work Payton did this year in NO. That is a tremendous coaching job.
You raise a very good point about what Payton might want in structure. He may want his GM versus the other way around.
Regardless, if this situation is even remotely possible, Mara/Schoen should make some calls. This guy is one of the five best HCs in the NFL.
And I really don't like Payton since the Bounty-Gate issue. He looked like a real jerk-off. But the guy can flat out coach and develop.
Agreed on Payton, seems like a total douche. If he is available, he’s the best HC out there imo including Harbaugh. I’m tired of watching the Giants lose and look like a pee wee football offense, that would not happen under Payton.
If Schoen truly has the final say, we're not hiring Payton
The last thing Schoen wants is an 800lb gorilla HC who believes (perhaps justifiably) that he knows better than our new GM how to build a winning football team.
that's not exactly young. Some coaches like Belichick might want to coach forever. Payton might want to enjoy an early retirement, say at 60. Being an NFL head coach is a taxing job and he's done it for 15 years
RE: Sean Payton isn't leaving New Orleans for a rebuild (NYG)
I don't want anyone that wouldnt come here because it's too big a challenge anyway. I want the person who knows they can turn it around. Turn this team around and win a SB, your name gets etched into stone.

Jerry loves him.
Wut?
I think Payton would want to influence the GM. That’s why Dallas makes sense, him and Jerry are close.

for Payton. Without hesitation.
Wut?
Guy is a Hall of Fame HC who is an offensive genius. And only 58. Of course you give up a pick for that...
Maybe a middle round pick this and next, or a 2023 second round pick at most.
How about big headed?
Lol, that’s such a terrible casting job. He looks nothing line Sean Payton in that movie.
The life of a TV commentator is vastly superior to the life of an NFL head coach.
I would not be surprised if he takes the TV gig.
And i can't buy chuckle at anyone who doesn't think a legendary HC isn't easily worth a 1st rounder. Some of you confuse me

Kevin James instead.

Actually a pretty fair point.
That man's nuts. Grab em!
best use of a R1.

His wife calls him Little Bill (or something similar) because he took on a lot of the mannerisms of Parcells, as did Belichek.
Agreed. He seems like a real scumbag.
Wasn't too different than Fassel with the ladies either.
That's probably spot on.
But I would still make the call.
Do ya'll just take the easy jobs?

If he doesn't coach the Saints, he'll be coaching the Cowgirls. Pray he stays in NO.
His liver is probably 88.
Fatassism?
