Daboll

Costy16 : 1/23/2022 10:04 pm
If he became the head coach, would you want him to be the OC? Feel like head coaches that also coordinate one side of the ball never works out. Too much on their plate.
Works for McVay

Type head coach didn’t work out either
Well I would want him to hire an OC(Ken Dorsey perhaps)
Jay on the Island : 1/23/2022 10:05 pm : link
but have him call the plays.
Wherever Daboll ends up

He’s calling the plays
That is a good question.
DonnieD89 : 1/23/2022 10:10 pm : link
And that is the reason why I am apprehensive about hiring Daboll. You don’t know what you’re going to get. The situation is a new first time GM and new first time head coach. Maybe it will work out, but I’m not freaking going to be acting like some of these posters who think it should be Daboll or bust. This is the exact reason why you do a deep dive into the head coaching search.

coaching matters, but it's players
Jesse B : 1/23/2022 10:18 pm : link
That make offenses hum. I want good players. Offense is Easier to call with good players and good qb play. Let's start there

Gabriel Davis juking a guy so bad he falls down and he's wide open

Or tyreek hill catching a crossing route and running by everyone

Makes offenses look good
Hire him
bronxct1 : 1/23/2022 10:18 pm : link
I'd really be interested in seeing Jones run that Bills offense. They rely heavily on designed QB runs which Jones does well and Garrett refused to commit to.

I think you get Daboll in here and roll with Jones next year and see how it goes. If you need to move on from DJ then find a QB that fits what Dabolls offense needs. I think today proved his system works in today's NFL.
They work out
Saos1n : 1/23/2022 10:20 pm : link
Just not often. I want him as HC, because of his QB development skills, play calling skills and aggressiveness.

Even if he doesn’t call plays, he’s not gonna hire a conservative OC. He’s gonna hire someone who he believes relates to his philosophy

Sometimes good players are good players because they're well coached.

That pendulum swings both ways.

Jones wouldn’t last 3 games running like that. He’s hurt all the time as is.
On the other side of the ball,

Leslie Frazier's stock dropped a bit today. Doubt he gets a HC job.

Yeah, definitely. I would settle for the giants to be watchable again next year, whatever it takes
Josh Allen is thick and muscular
5BowlsSoon : 1/23/2022 10:53 pm : link
The Ravens QB is thick too. They could take hits as long as it isn’t too many.

DJones cannot take those hits.
Is it just me....
BillKo : 1/23/2022 11:01 pm : link
...or anyone else curious about his play calling, overall, in tonight's game?

What was with all the QB runs? I know it's Josh Allen but I thought I was watching a HS game for much of the game.

Have you not seen Buffalo play?

Matt - I hear ya I just thought there was really weird sequence of calls up to the point where the Bills had taken their first lead.

I've seen them play all year.

Maybe not close enough but it seemed he ran the ball like 20x tonight. It was only 11 after a check.

I thought having Allen throw it in certain instances would have been a better option.
Almost every time it was a QB run

it worked. Problem is you cant have Jones do that with his neck issue

I don't think you run any QB like that other than Allen to be honest lol

Wow Allen is an incredible talent
greatgrandpa : 1/24/2022 1:38 am : link
Sees the field, looks off receivers, never loses his command, toughness, accuracy off the chart - Peyton Manning with speed. On the other hand some of the playcalling for the Bills tonight was a little strange I thought, but Allen was so good it really didn’t matter - he took countless broken plays and threw strikes under pressure. How much of tonight’s Bills offense was directly attributable to Daboll’s gameplan? How much to Allens unique talent? Before tonight I thought Daboll was a QB whisperer. Now I’m not so sure. What is he supposed to do with Jones? Turn him into another version of Allen? A plain white dress looks a lot better with Audrey Hepburn is in it

Jackson on the Ravens is thick? In what world?
One thing
Costy16 : 1/24/2022 8:03 am : link
About the Bills, is that they do not run the ball with great regularity.

Cam Newton could. And it shortened his career. Daniel Jones can't make it through a season. I'd guess that Daboll would have those plays and save them for when they were needed, rather than rely on them as they can and do for Allen, who is a physical beast.

For OC
Daboll concern won’t go away for me
5BowlsSoon : 1/24/2022 8:10 am : link
Is he this good because Josh Allen is his qb?

We all know that would not have happened if Daniel Jones was his qb….so again I ask, does Daboll make Allen look good or does Allen make Daboll so good? I think the latter….which is why I’m hesitant to endorse Daboll. He’s not proven he can be both a HC and a OC. This concerns me a great deal.

Allen improved every year under his, and Ken Dorsey's, coaching.
Allen is the Offensive "Concept" in Buffalo
Rafflee : 1/24/2022 9:32 am : link
They've provided some protection and talent around him, but I don't see an amazing "scheme" there. Also, I hate Planned Contact for QB's....Allen is taking entirely too much contact (ditto Joe Burrow, who lowered the boom for an extra 2 yards on early downs). I'm ok with situational contact, but I want my QB to evade and Get down. On QB runs, take what's given and get down. On 3rd down and 4th down "must haves", we can all live with contact. On early downs, throw the ball to the ground and tale the next snap.
Can Daboll create the plays
UGADawgs7 : 1/24/2022 9:44 am : link

I don't believe Zac Taylor calls plays, but yeah, 3 out of the 4 HC's in the CG's call their own plays, but no HC can be successful doing it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think that we’ve been fooled
giantBCP : 1/24/2022 9:52 am : link
if we go with a Schoen/Daboll. It would be like the Knicks going with the GM that drafted a Jordan or Lebron in hopes of having success.
RE: Daboll concern won’t go away for me
Aaron Thomas : 1/24/2022 9:58 am : link
Daboll/Allen. If that is the hesitation couldn't the same be said about any coach/OC on a team with a great QB? Would you hesitate to hire Zac Taylor because of Burrows or Arians because of Brady/I would hope just because of Allen that would hold the Giants back from hiring Daboll.

QB runs work great until you get your QB injured
Nah
illmatic : 1/24/2022 3:25 pm : link
Doesn’t he like to be up in the booth when he’s calling plays? If he prefers that then it’ll be really hard for him to call the offense from the field while taking care of HC duties. He can just get someone he trusts to put in his system.
Simpletons think that playcaller = OC.
