I like Jones as a QB and a class person. For me the biggest question is if he can stay healthy. Yesterday we saw 2 great QB in the AFC game. Mahomes runs out of bounds. Allen runs like a fullback. DJ has to protect himself. DJ - ( New Window )
I realize yesterday was do or die for the Bills but if Allen continues
build the OL in the upcoming draft and FA. If Jones shows nothing by year end, he's gone and you draft a new young QB (when its a stronger QB class). SIMPLE

This. It’s the smartest way to go about it from a cap and team building perspective.
Unless there is a QB that Schoen is enamored with in this year’s draft. I don’t think he’s the type to force a QB pick like DG did with Jones in 2019. But if he sees some Josh Allen like qualities in a QB this year I have no issue with pulling the trigger.
Simms caused us (those who were around) his first 4 injury riddled years..Not comparing talents, just that we lamented, “we picked ‘Simms who’ early and he can’t stay on the fucking field.!”
DJ, injury-wise could be different if his neck injury is serious and career-threatening.”

Yes. Albeit the NFL has changed from a personnel and roster management perspective with regards to contracts, cap, QBs, etc.
and their early struggles and Jones, is that neither Simms nor Eli struggled to read a defense or understand coverages. Both were under an incredible amount of pressure and often tried to do too much and forces things.
Jones' problems are understanding what he is seeing and knowing how to make a decision. He struggled with it at Duke and still struggles with it in year 3. I just don't think I have ever seen a QB start to learn to play the position in the NFL in year 4.
IIRC, Parcells named Scott Brunner the starter right before 1983 season opener and that the decision was popular among a lot of fans who never got over the "Phil Who" draft hysteria. Aside from the injuries, complaints were he was too short/couldn't see the field; didn't have a strong enough arm, etc. The decision was probably Parcells' biggest blunder. I think even Brunner was a little surprised.

I was one of the fans that was screaming when BP name Brunner as the starter over Simms. I think it had a lot to do with Simm's brashness, as I remember he declared himself the starter during the preseason and that didn't sit right with BP. And poor Phil, when it became apparent just how bad a decision it was, BP eventually put Simms in, and Simms broke his thumb.
I think if he had certain components he would be viewed more differently.
The issue I see he when you really need good QB play in the critical junctions of big games and certainly in the playoffs he will consistently come up short.
Something is just not present in the pocket and when he runs. He short circuits too much upstairs.

Of all the complaints about Phil, anyone complaining about his arm had no idea what he was talking about. That said, bringing up examples from 40 years ago probably isn't that relevant.
Simms should have been the starter from the start.
After watching closely, I figured out pretty quickly that Simms put points on the board when the other QBs, Brunner included, did not.
So I was mega-pissed when Tuna sat Simms down. It was clear as day to me that he was the best QB the G-men had from the early part of his rookie season forward.
Don't be surprised when every HC candidate says exactly the same thing about DJ.
