5. NEW YORK GIANTS: EDGE KAYVON THIBODEAUX, OREGON Thibodeaux coming off the board at No. 5 might feel like a “fall,” given that he was the consensus No. 1 overall pick just a few months ago. But after learning more about the class, it makes more sense that his range falls between Pick 1 and Pick 5. He still could very well be the first player taken in the draft, but if he’s not, there’s no guarantee he’s the next name after that. His natural gifts as a pass-rusher make him a top-five lock, but I’ll give some hope to Giants fans because I do think it could play out like this, given the talent at the top of the class and the potential team needs in the top five. |

7. NEW YORK GIANTS (VIA CHI): IOL TYLER LINDERBAUM, IOWA Yeah, yeah, I know. “You don’t take a center this high.” However, I genuinely think this is where Linderbaum’s range begins, and I also think there’s a chance he could be the Giants' second selection. New general manager Joe Schoen comes over from Buffalo, where he served as assistant GM for five years. He was Brandon Beane’s right-hand man, and with 20 years of a scouting background, his voice was likely a very important one in the war room. The Bills have honed in on the trenches in each of their last three drafts — all five of their first and second-round picks since 2019 were spent on either offensive line or defensive line. Here, they went with a dynamic, high-ceiling pass protector at No. 5, and I bet Schoen is one of those GMs who simply says, “we’re going to draft great football players in the trenches.” Linderbaum is one of them. |
I truly love how they have selected talent and hope Schoen brings the same work..
Look for a trade down from 5 or 7 in RD 1, we need multiple picks to fill the roster especially if we dump players to create cap space to bring in some individual talent.

yup and hopefully they build up our 2023 draft capital. Because it gives Schoen and his team a full year to scout for potentially our next QB. And you want to have the ammo to trade up to get them.
I'll trust the GM on Linderbaum vs other OL. I don't like Thibs, period.
I'd take Cross at 5 in that scenario. Too high for Linderbaum at 7.
Thibs really has to check out - is he all in or not with football because he didnt play in 2020 and then coasted most of last season like Clowney did his final year. And then Clowney became more of a JAG than a force
Until of course we realized there were other good college players...

No, it is because he coasted last season after not playing in 2020
I would trade back into round 1 to select Johnson if he is available in say the 24 - 32 range.
Go OL with pick 1A and LB with pick 1b.

Only paraphrased from their remarks...
If I were Schoen, I’d start talking enthusiastically about Pickett to reporters.

What...and drive down Daniel Jones trade value??
:-)
You go, Joe!
If we want him, we could always trade down a bit or trade up from Round 2 slot.
He'd be really good in an offensive scheme that utilizes a lot of zone blocking for run game. Worry about his consistency in an offense that involves lot of pass protection. He might struggle facing speed rushers inside.
George Young wouldn’t pick him in the top 10.

Actually he looked really good until he got hurt... wasn't the same after that.
Of course, everyone is the "next" something until they aren't so while I like Linderbaum, I'm not sold on him with the seventh pick. However, I do like playing the Devil's Advocate.
Karlaftis-very stout vs run array of pass rush moves
Cross-moves like a tight end can mirror any pass rusher in the world
Ekwonu- pro bowl guard potential
Thibs-highest upside edge in the class
Lloyd- can play edge on pass downs or ilb. Stud and insane block shedding skills. Great cover skills. Rated higher than Dean for me because he can mix it up with Olineman
Neal-possible RT more likely stud guard
Hamilton-freak do it all safety like derwin James
Stingley-if we get wink he needs cover corners and this guy is a stud
Our offense won’t be lighting the world on fire anytime soon so let’s at least get the D to near elite a soon as possible.
OLs: Cross, Neal
LB: Lloyd
Edge: Ebiketie, DJackson, Ojabo
Corners: McCreary and Gardner

What do you think of San Diego State DE Cameron Thomas as a 2nd or 3rd round pick? Thomas is a big (6'5", 270 lbs) left end who is strong and powerful and has a good array of pass-rush moves. Seems to have a conditioning problem as he tends to tire near the end of games.
Is there another center available in rounds 3-5 that could step in and start? Or will it be necessary to use a first rounder to get Linderbaum? And if so does position scarcity make it worth it?
