What a terrible year to have the top overall pick

misses more than it hits. Suck for them in trade back potential but that absolutely have to go OT and double down on their Lawrence investment. If he doesn't show a surge in progress in year 2 they are going to have a shot at the 2023 QB's if they want to go that route.

but I think the strategy, if you can't trade down, is to not worry about "value" (Aka "what other people think") and just pick the guy who makes your team better. If Neal or another OL is that guy, ya just gotta do it. If one of the devastating pass rushers is the guy, ya gotta do it.
The draft is a means to an end, not an end in itself.

To have two top 7 picks as well. Maybe we can trade one of our firsts this year to a team for their 1st rounder next year to give us some draft capital to get a QB in 2023. Jags would be a possibility since they have their QB. We’ll probably have to add though. Also makes sense for us for salary cap reasons.

and that draft produced the best player in the league, so...

I'm mot saying any one team gets it right, but the combine will separate out a few workout warriors and give the top teams the excuses they need to make the picks.

But last year was considered very good - IMV - and it indeed looks like a bumper crop with two player as All Pro selections as rookies - Parsons & Slater. And toss in Chase, Jones, Pitts, Surtain, Harris, etc.

Every draft has good players and bad players. Draft the good ones.

If the Giants are trading down and picking up a first, that is one thing. But the way that reads, you are proposing the Giants trade a top 7 pick this year for an unknown first round pick next year? That is insanity.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing. Remember, all of this is speculation. We see drafts all the time where all of these QB’s, etc. are supposed to be great and they flop (eg. Mayfield, Darnold, Rosen in 2018). Same with other positions. There’s so much speculation, luck, players being drafted into the right scheme, and other factors that any draft could end up great or terrible.

No it isn't. Getting a haul of two blue chip players is never a bad thing. And if a team gets desperate to get a QB, you can trade down, still have two first round picks this year, and a first round pick next year as part of that trade.

they don't need a QB. They need help everywhere else though, and should probably explore trade options to get more picks. But as you say, Jim, without a clear cut #1 pick, how many teams are going to be looking to move up?

So far, unfortunately, this looks true. When Toney did play, however, he was electric.

But I would trade that electricity for the All-Pro skills of pass protection and run blocking by Mr. Slater. Skills that we needed much more than the electricity.

is for good players to be paired with the right coaching staffs to develop them. How often that happens (along with injuries) probably explains the majority of the disparities in draft classes.
There is really no reason for significant talent disparities to exist among draft classes unless you get funky one-off events like the Covid opt-outs.
