Timing of asshats?

Dan in the Springs : 1/24/2022 2:50 pm
I was just wondering how asshats who were connected under the Reese, Gettleman, and now Schoen are connected. I'm talking about asshats who claim to have insight now to what the Giants are thinking in the draft.

Do they know Schoen? Are there others in the Giants org (ownership?, scouts?) who have insights into Schoen's thinking? Do we believe that the owners are the real decision makers so it doesn't matter what Schoen thinks?

Just curious, it surprises me to read some already posting as though they have inside knowledge into the Giants thinking for this draft.

Does anyone find that timing a little curious?
Which asshats?

Maybe they're on the player side of things (agents)?
Just gotta know the right carpenters

What asshats

Have come out and spoken about Schoen?
Any of the asshats...

I've read some comments on possible Giants picks and seen some posters insinuating they are in on the Giants thinking here.

I remember when I wanted the Giants to select Aaron Donald in the draft and there were some who said he didn't fit the type of Giants DT. That made sense historically, and it also was possible that one would have insight into their thinking in structuring the draft board.

I don't understand how any asshat can claim to know what "types" of players the Giants might be dismissing right now. It would seem that the slate should be blank in terms of what the org's thinking is.
Haven’t seen any asshats, in terms of Schoen

Unf, we may see the end to this chatter for a little bit. Especially, when you consider the scouting dept and coaching staff will get reassembled.

Gonna be a beat writer type of year. Hopefully soon lol

In a big company like that, I suppose there are people who could have connections with people on the organizational/money side of things as opposed to the football/scouting side of things who would have insight on the latter and who would have much more job security since they're more like paper pushers.
Knowing the general gist of the draft board
adamg : 1/24/2022 2:58 pm : link
Is probably not a huge secret among certain executives in football organizations even people who don't deal in scouting.
Anyone claiming inside knowledge of who Schoen will draft
UberAlias : 1/24/2022 3:00 pm : link
Is not being truthful. Right now priority is getting a head coach and staff. The process for evaluating the team now that he's inside the building has not even started or barely.
Hey Dan

Scouting department remains in intact, and draft info tends to leak out of it. I'd suggest not digging much deeper if you enjoy the info, just try to sort it out with the rest of us.

NYG did think Donald was undersized, I shared it.
I'm not talking about anyone who is outright saying...
Dan in the Springs : 1/24/2022 3:05 pm : link
anything like "Schoen isn't interested", it's more stuff like "the Giants won't have him on the board", and not due to some character defect but because he doesn't match some profile for a position.

Consider the source(s)
JonC : 1/24/2022 3:06 pm : link
there's a ton of fans here who don't wtf they're talking about.
JonC...
Dan in the Springs : 1/24/2022 3:09 pm : link
And you were right about Donald, no question about it.

Maybe you know better than I do, but shouldn't Giants fans be expecting a shakeup to the evaluation process now that Schoen is on board? In other words, wouldn't it be curious if the Giants simply went forward with draft profiles determined under the Gettleman regime? Why wouldn't there be an expectation of a new way of evaluating players?

I appreciate your inputs JonC just trying to figure out how anybody could have a sense of how Schoen will assemble the board, even long-term talent evaluators within the front office. It would seem that his eyes have been squarely set on finding a head coach, and one would hope that the new GM and new HC would be the ones deciding what kinds of players they want to go after in April.

No?
With very few exceptions,
an_idol_mind : 1/24/2022 3:14 pm : link
folks here who post insider information generally hear a thing or two and share it, but don't consistently get information.

Then there are the ones who build a reputation after getting something right and keep making predictions based on little or no information until they completely discredit themselves.
I would think you're correct on Schoen's focus points
JonC : 1/24/2022 3:14 pm : link
My point was the scouting dept has probably been doing their thing to prepare for the draft, and NFL teams do tend to stick with the info compiled for the upcoming draft, rather than start moving out the staff and tossing piles of data out the window. If big changes are to happen in scouting, it's generally after the draft. Dunno if that's the case with NYG, time will tell. Still have to consider the source with opinions here, lol.

There may be info from scouts. But actually Schoen, as you had asked, is highly doubtful. And another potential source, which is the coaching staff, is not in place.

The draft is a process and we are a long way away, no free agency yet, etc. So some people do have connections but you need to give a lot of tolerances and realize a ton of fluidity.
The most recent Papa Banks Podcast had a beat writer from Buffalo
arniefez : 1/24/2022 3:16 pm : link
on who seemed to have some handle on Schoen's team building philosophy. I found it worth the listen until Papa went into his full state news mode and said he doesn't want fans posting on social media about who they want as the next HC since fans don't know these people or anything about them.

Think about what he's saying. First it was fans have no right to criticize the owners because it hurts their feelings. Now it's fans shouldn't have opinions on anything since they don't know anyone or anything. Not on GMs, coaches, players, etc. Just pay your money and be grateful the Giants allow you to. Someone should clue him in that if the "fans' that he has such distain for weren't engaged 24/7 365 about the Giants he wouldn't have gotten rich enough to forget our names. Classic case of a guy who has become so privileged and entitled he has lost touch with the real world.

Correct. You know better than I, but I've always had the same understanding --that this is how it typically works in regime changes with big changes in scouting coming after draft.
Most people throw shit against the wall and it sticks
Breeze_94 : 1/24/2022 3:31 pm : link
Because the Giants have been very predictable when it comes to drafting in round 1. Didn’t take a genius to know Giants way of thinking

Historically, undersized guys like Slater and Donald have had no shot of being Giants

Off ball LB’s like Isaiah Simmons - no shot

Character concerns (Parsons)- no shot

So it wasn’t really hard to rule guys out from being picked, asshat or not

I listened to that podcast, I didn’t get that tone from Papa at all. I did hear the quote you refer to, I just didn’t think it was offensive

Actually Papa has been pretty critical of the Giants often this season. He s no going to bash ownership, and he shouldn’t, that’s not his role.

But he has been very forthcoming about the need for change.

Haven't things tightened up somewhat?

I think everybody was caught off guard by the Daniel Jones pick. Did people know Andrew Thomas was going to be the pick? I don't think anyone had Toney on their radar last year or the trade back.
So far, there has only been one organizational change in personnel.

Unless DG was the connection, all of last season’s leakers are still active.
I don't recall any asshat information

Not sure if I'm understanding the premise of this thread but most "asshats" are guessing. For instance, anyone leaking information on the GM search - media or asshat - was making it up because nothing was getting out.

I often see attention seekers this time of year with elaborate/detailed "information" that's just not true and/or extremely hard to get. Don't pay attention to them.

There are only a few here that seem legit from my eyes and ears. I've noticed JonC and hitdog have shared some of the information circling the inner circles over the years. Listen to them and be skeptical of any others.
