What's the most desirable HC job that's open?

Jim in Forest Hills : 1/25/2022 8:45 am
Giants - Roster is a wreck, complete rebuild
Miami - Internal Tua questions
Jacksonville - Lawrence is there
Minnesota - Cousins?
Chicago - Fields, is he the guy to walk into
Raiders - Some talent
Houston - Davis Mills?
Denver - Some talent

Lots of openings, what's the plum gig in your opinion?

Denver.
Desirable in what way?
Boatie Warrant : 1/25/2022 8:48 am : link
Control? Most challenging? Best current roster? Best atmosphere? Best owner? Most stable?
You can answer this in so many ways
Biteymax22 : 1/25/2022 8:49 am : link
The Vikings and Raiders are the most "ready" to compete

The Broncos are top of the "if Aaron Rogers leaves GB" list and if he does wind up there you're a Super Bowl contender instantly

The Bears and Jags have young talented QBs that can be groomed

The Giants are a "storied" franchise and if your the coach who turns it around, you'll be a hero in the US's largest market

All depends on how you want to look at it

In my view, Jacksonville.

IF John stays out of shit and allows the new regime time to rebuild a franchise in total shambles, this should be a very desirable job. As long as we the customers see tangible improvement, we can be patient. What makes us not patient is what happened over the last 4 years: nothing improved..you can argue it actually got worse due to total incompetence.
Minnesota

There is talent there but they really underachieved defensively. Cousins contract is an issue, but not insurmountable. If Rodgers leaves Green Bay no reason why you wouldn’t be a favorite to win division.

Miami ownership/GM is a concern as Flores was forced out despite winning record. Chicago is only good if you are high on Fields. They don’t have the draft capital to pivot and the management situation makes the Giants look competent.

They have their QB of the future - most likely franchise QB.

Giants are always a desirable job. Now that DG is out of the picture and you’ve got a young GM for a clean slate and really good draft capital, I’d say NYG is right up there.

Regardless of what fans think, Mara would be a good owner to work for or in conjunction with.

ryanmkeane : 1/25/2022 9:30 am : link
Why is Denver a desirable job? Because they might have Rodgers for 1 season? You’ve got Mahomes and Herbert in that division.

Denver seems like a team that has been in constant “mediocre” range for awhile.
Too many focused on Mara's like

Any of the other organizations mentioned don't have owners and owner lakeys who meddle.

Jax- is ok with Lawrence but he played pretty poorly. However, ala Eli, he led his team to victory in the last game of the season and showed poise and ability.

Chi- ownership meddles, lots of pieces need retooling but, Fields may or may not be the guy and that is the big question. Plus, less than ideal draft capital following a bad season.

Hou- awful ownership management position with horrible PR stuff to boot.

LAV- who knows there, kind of a weird situation and lots of emotion pulled them into contention and the playoffs, will the hangover from those emotions hurt them this coming year?

Mia- good defense, playmakers in Waddle and Geiseki (sp), questions abound on Tua though. Great cap space for 2022!!

NYG- I am biased obviously but- lots of draft capital and in places to generate even more capital. Assuming issues were team structure and scheme mismatch to a degree then a more healthy SB, KG, KT would be weapons that can be expected to play better. Defense has parts- match the right scheme and fill in wholes for a quick jolt of juice. Cap is tough but, it is easily managed if you are ok with eating dead money for cap space in a single year. Cut dead weight, trade bloated contracts. Create space in 2022 and add some select 2nd tier VETs. Add more draft capital in fill roster with young draft picks- no more 30 plus vet adds to Oline- depth is aggressive youth..
Raiders
Blue92 : 1/25/2022 9:34 am : link
Established, above-average QB, good roster, seemingly supportive owner that's good to work for, stadium and facilities are pretty new and likely one of the better ones in the NFL.
A HCs best friend

Even if you fail you get a 5 year 5 million dollar per year contract.

Prob one of the jobs
Breeze_94 : 1/25/2022 9:57 am : link
In Florida. No state income taxes, nice weather. Both teams have a ton of cap space to shape the roster and young QB’s that can be developed.

Oh and a lot less media/fan base pressure than the Giants job.
I would say the Giants job has to be up there
Rudy5757 : 1/25/2022 10:11 am : link
You can build this team the way you want to. You have 2 top 10 draft picks to work with. Jacksonville is high too if you like the QB. Teams without a QB are less desirable, hard to win without one. You can say that about the Giants but expectations here are so low you can build over 2-3 years.
Probably Raiders.
Section331 : 1/25/2022 10:19 am : link
A decent team, a good QB, but I would put the Giants up there. The first year will be rough, but after that, Schoen and the HC have a chance to build from scratch - few big contracts they can't get out of. The problem, as it is with a number of open jobs, is finding the QB.

I think you nailed it by including overall quality of life.

I'm not a Tua guy, but if a HC believes in him than the job is definitely top two.

I really like Fields as a QB with great upside, but McCaskey is a horrible owner. Worse than Mara/Tisch. So I put Chicago in the bottom three with NYG and Houston.
Chicago could be the most attractive job
BigBlue7 : 1/25/2022 10:29 am : link
especially if Rodgers leaves the division.

Denver job has ownership instability and the fact that you'd have to face Herbert and Mahomes two times a year without have a top QB of your own makes it less desirable than it appears on the surface

Raiders have the same Mahomes/Herbert quandary, but they have a stable ownership situation and have a QB in place with Carr

Minnesota or Jacksonville
Jimmy Googs : 1/25/2022 10:39 am : link
The former has plenty of offensive weapons and even played better Defense this year. JAX obviously has the potential franchise QB on roster.

Probably, but you’ll never have a fan base. That’s an awful NFL town. Also their shitty GM is being retained. Awful ownership.

I wonder if they actually look at the division? INteresting, I would think they look at the team and the assets but if I were about to join a division that has young Tom Brady in it, does it make it less palatable?

Not sure about Broncos. Even with Aaron Rodgers every team in AFC West is playoff caliber and ownership is in flux. New group may not want to keep you as head coach. Even if you are unjustifiably terminated it makes it difficult to recruit lower level assistant coaches who don’t have the luxury of falling back into a coordinator position

Good post. I really like Denver's roster, too, but that division is loaded with two of most gifted QBs the league has seen in a generation.
The Giants are on their fifth head coach since 2015.
Big Blue Blogger : 1/25/2022 11:24 am : link
Sixth, technically, if you count Spagnuolo’s interim gig. That’s a factor.
Maybe not a huge one, but it does offset some of the stability talk. One’s view of the new GM will weigh quite heavily.

Denver.

Not without a FA QB. They're built to win now (paying WRs and DEs) and if they don't land Rodgers, Watson, or Wilson...they could soon be in rebuild mode.

Vikings are the most talented, Raiders next.

I'd rank the Giants last...least talented with no great talent to trade.
