Will JPP play for the Bucs in 2022?

bLiTz 2k : 1/25/2022 10:49 am
Just curious what everyone's thoughts are. JPP is one of the many core guys in Tampa with an expiring contract.

I don't think they'll be able to pull a miracle and resign most of them again.. doubtful many of them are going to give TB another discount to try and make a run.

JPP is 33, has been a good productive role player for them as a 3-4 edge player and really revitalized his career...but he may be an easy one to let walk, considering they have far more important players that they'll have to try to re-sign.

Does he retire? New team? Howd you feel for a Giants reunion on the cheap? Thoughts.
Giants?

No way. Fuck him.
No more JPP

on the Giants. I felt when he was here he didn't take his career serious enough. He shows one year, and then takes the following year off, he showed up a year or two over-weight and out of shape, and then the whole fireworks incident. The team has moved on.
He looked a bit

spent in the playoff games. Some contender will sign him later in the off season at a bargain rate.
Beer is correct

Who the fook knows what could happen when two sides are desperate, but I really don't see him wanting to return to NYG. His renewal occurred because he went home to FL, and he should have options that make a return here of little to no interest.

He has a torn rotator cuff. I can’t imagine playing football through that.
I could see him back at a reduced number.

I had the biggest cap number on the team this year, there is no way TB can bring him back anywhere near that. My guess is that he stays, he's a FL guy, he's 33 coming of a year he missed a bunch of games. I can't see anyone throwing big money at him.
As to coming back here,
Section331 : 1/25/2022 10:59 am : link
absolutely not. I have no ill will towards JPP, but why bring back an aging player who is coming off a season where he missed a bunch of games? Even with management change, NYG is probably the last place JPP would go.

Guy is already a borderline HOF'er closing in on a 100 sack player with multiple surgeries, blowing off his hand and not taking his early career too seriously. Extremely talented player. The poster who pointed out to his fluctuating weight with the Giants is correct. He seems to have taken more care of his workout regime later in his career.

JPP’s time ran its course with the Giants, and his judgement issues are well documented.

JPP has also played through a number of grueling injuries, and his desire to be and stay on the field is beyond reproach. His weight gain the two seasons with the Giants came after offseasons where he was unable to train.

Getting back on the field after the hand injury, and then playing 90%+ snaps in the following years was incredible.

JPP is up there with Tuck and Osi in every meaningful measure.

The one stat that always blows my mind is JPP is 5th in team in passes defensed. JPP knocked down 4 fewer passes than Jason Sehorn who played corner for 100 games as a Giant.
One player doesn't tell an entire story

but Giants fans need to move on from the past.

On one end, we scream "we need an outside voice and new, fresh ideas!"

and then on the other side, we get threads asking for JPP and Pat Shurmur back.

It ended, it's over, and we need to move on. It wouldn't make sense to come back at this point in his career if he wants a ring.
I don't think a lot of free agents

on the north side of 30 are looking to be part of a rebuild unless the money is greater or they have no other options. Guys in their 30s are looking for either:

a) a final payday
b) a final shot at a ring
c) a and b

He should not be getting a here, and is a very far cry from b.

Relax I don't think anyone necessarily wants JPP back, at least I don't. Hes clearly engrained in our franchises history, so I decided to start a discussion.

I'm leaning towards him retiring, given his injury history and just went out as a 2 time champ...was curious what everyone else's thoughts were on a former Giant with quite a history.

If it bothers you, don't click.
I see him staying in Tampa
Biteymax22 : 1/25/2022 11:40 am : link
At 33 he'll get offers but nothing big. He went to college in the area and likely has roots there. No reason to leave unless they outright don't even offer him a minimum contract.
Does he qualify for Giants ring of honor ?

To extend the subject.
If he goes back to the Bucs
Jimmycal : 1/25/2022 12:27 pm : link
its at a fraction of his current salary. And while were are on the Bucs, anyone else interpret Brady's hedging on playing as the beginning of a scheme to get out of Tampa perhaps?

I doubt it, but TB only has a year left on his deal, and the cap hit is very manageable. Maybe if Tampa decides to go into full rebuild mode, but my guess is that they will try to make one more run.

SF would be an interesting landing spot for him though. One year deal to give Trey Lance a chance to learn behind the GOAT, and a roster stacked for a SB run with good QB play.
He looked done this year
Sammo85 : 1/25/2022 12:40 pm : link
He had a resurrection briefly with TB in 2020-2021, but he looked overly injured this year and injuries/snaps have taken a toll.

I think Bucs are going to try and get younger. They'll likely shed Suh and JPP.

Let Vea/Tryon and another cheaper vet fill in.
Huge no!

Giants essentially gave up on him and traded him. I don't see him wanting to come back and I don't think it makes sense for the Giants, but "fuck him?" What did he ever do yo you?
