The current coaching trend is leaning toward “brilliant, young offensive minds,” white guys like Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, Kliff Kingsbury, Zac Taylor, Matt LaFleur, Kevin Stefanski, Matt Rhule, Brandon Staley, and Nick Sirianni. Add in that McDaniel went to Yale, and it’s blood in the water for NFL teams looking for a coach. Again, I’m not the curator of the internet, but I’ve yet to see stories about Byron Leftwich or Eric Bieniemy with headlines like “49ers Offensive Coordinator Mike McDaniel is the Most Interesting Man in Football” or “Mike McDaniel is a football assassin disguised as a hipster.” Andrew Hawkins @Hawk I promise you there is not a brighter football mind in the League. I don’t know who Andrew Hawkins is or how much weight should be put behind him saying, “I promise you there is not a brighter football mind in the League,” but it says a lot about the power of internet groupthink that a Black guy with “A call for justice shouldn’t warrant an apology” on his profile backdrop would tweet a statement like that. |

Editors’ note: We learned after the publication of this article that 49ers OC Mike McDaniel, whom we describe as a “white guy,” is in fact biracial. The article’s original text remains below. We regret the error. |
That's what happens when you put your conclusion before your research and argument...
What a sad, stupid little man.
On top of that, if it's "opinion" some places won't fact-check at all. Then it's all on the writer
So that's how a biracial coach is misidentified as "white."
The New Yorker is famous for its fact checking but I've seen mistakes in that magazine. No place is perfect.
You get paid to write this stuff. Maybe spend a minute using the Google before you write "I don't know who Andrew Hawkins is...." Your job is to find out.
Bi racial - ( New Window )
Let me state this guy is only admired because he is white, without doing 5 minutes of work to realize that he is NOT white.
Let me use an assessment from someone about the subject, and then just openly admit I have no idea who the person making the assessment was or if they are knowledgeable.
No journalistic standards at all, just blind emotion.
It is a fairly low bar to expect somebody writing for a major sports blog to know who Andrew Hawkins is as well.
Borrowed posters from here? 😎

All the Deadspin writers walked off the job to protest corporate telling them to stick to sports. They all left and went on to form Defector and Deadspin adopted a just sports rule. One month later it was back to all sorts of non-sports stuff but with terrible writers. What the hell happened?

It's not THAT bad...

LOL'd twice!!!!!!!!
The premise of the article is that he is "white" privileged and getting opportunities not because he is smart or capable but that he fits the corporate image.
The article loses its relevance and perhaps they should applaud the fact that he is a biracial and has accomplished what he has done in an A typical manner.
