0-lineman who need to be cut

blue1986 : 1/26/2022 8:12 pm
These offensive lineman should not be with the team next year
Solder, Hernandez, Price, Skura,Bederson these lineman were beat repeatedly all season. Too many times when Barkey received the hand off there was a defensive lineman in his face or no hole. They should draft Ikem Elkwonu or Evan Neal with their 1st pick.
Ben Bredeson
Ben in Tampa : 1/26/2022 8:15 pm : link
Should stick around as a backup and to see if he can be developed.

The rest, yeah
The wrong question IMO
Reale01 : 1/26/2022 8:15 pm : link
It should be how many new starters and the answer is at least three, if the new coaches can get something out of what we have or Gates/Lemieux surprise. Most likely 4 new OL.

They literally need 4 starters and an entire bench added to this team due to a combination of injuries, guys not developing, and the general cluster fuck of giants management in building that unit during DGs era.

There is no one safe right now except for Thomas, and Gates who is rehabbing. You bring lemieux and Peart into camp, but they can and need to do better.

Can't fix it all in one off-season, but the hole they are in right now means a multi year rebuild just to "fix" the O-line.

(Please don't give me the chiefs did it in 1 off-season nonsense...this team only has Thomas in the cupboard right now...they don't even have a single viable starter elsewhere much less a backup)

Everyone you listed, with the exception of Bredeson,
BigBlueNH : 1/26/2022 8:24 pm : link
are not under contract for next year. So, we don;t have to do anything with them. None should be re-signed.

We only have 6 OL under contract for next year, and Bredeson is 1 of only 3-4 who will be healthy. We HAVE to keep him, at least for depth. Even with him, we will have 4-5 new faces on the OL, with little cap space to bring in vets.
Keep Thomas

Peart is probably not a factor for 2022 anyway. He tore his ACL late in the season, and that has a recovery period of six to nine months.
I think Thomas is the only starter we can
Breeze_94 : 1/26/2022 9:04 pm : link
Count on heading into next year. Gates had a gruesome injury and may not be the same. Lemieux is a question mark but likely gets a starting spot assuming he’s recovered.

Price IMO is a decent backup- nothing more, nothing less. Wouldn’t be opposed to bring him back at a backups salary.

Peart is likely on PUP next year. Best case moving forward is he is a swing tackle.

Bredeson is only other guy I’d consider bringing back. He’s under contract for cheap. As mentioned by another poster, he’s still young and can be developed. Depth with a chance to be more than just depth.
Also people are going to hate this
Breeze_94 : 1/26/2022 9:08 pm : link
But Solder is being paid 4mil by the Giants whether he’s here or cut.

There is 0 benefit to cutting him. With that, why not bring him back as depth and another body to compete. Best case scenario, the Giants realize they have 2 or 3 other options that are better and they cut him before rosters shrink to 53- makes no difference.

Exactly. Murphy I think is RFA, so another injured body that you can keep at minimum contract. I would like to keep Skura or Price if they’re willing to sign for vet minimum to compete. Right now the only center on the roster is Gates, and who knows if he will even suit up next year.

What you actually typed was:

“Zero-lineman who need to be cut”

Not a popular opinion! :-)
Almost all of those guys are FA
BillT : 1/26/2022 9:59 pm : link
We aren’t resigning them.
I'm guessing that the Giants will draft two offensive linemen
Hammer : 1/26/2022 10:39 pm : link
in the first two or three rounds.

They might even draft three in the first three rounds.

If they can add one decent pickup during free agency, and hit on all three draft choices, we are in business.

I realize that this is probably unrealistic, but my fingers are crossed.

Until then, I guess I'll just keep wearing my new Josh Allen jersey.
Solder is a free agent
Chip : 1/26/2022 10:42 pm : link
He is not under contract. He does count 4 mil against the cap while not under contract becuase of roster bonus.
Let's stop drafting OL from UConn

They're basically Sisters of the Poor. Enough already.

The reason you don’t do this is because Solder can no longer play Tackle at a sufficient enough level. He hasn’t been able to for several years.

Disregard the liability to the cap, he is a liability on the field which is worse...

Googs is right...the no name kid they called up from the practice squad, Cunningham (who likely couldn't start on an XFL roster if given the chance) is a far better player than nate solder right now. Its not even close.

Not having Solder, even as the 4th OT, is addition by subtraction. Watch the tape. He literally cannot play football anymore.

christian : 1/27/2022 12:19 am : link
Nate Solder is not under contract.

2022 was voided in his contract, and the 4M cap hit is the balance of his various bonuses.

Let's be completely honest. Other than Thomas there is no OL we can't find better value for in the draft or FA (for a reasonable price). We know the new GM Schoen will be looking at that closely.

The Giants go nowhere until they improve the abysmal OL performance. No QB can perform at a decent level with the current OL. None. Let's be brutally honest. Would any of the QB's in the playoffs, despite their gifts, brought the Giants to the playoffs behind a line like that?

Even with his exceptional skills Patrick Mahomes couldn't overcome his injured OL in the Super Bowl. Daniel Jones isn't even in that stratosphere on a normal day. OL becomes a priority no matter who the QB is next year.

This is correct
Price was a 2018 first rounder
bluefin : 1/27/2022 7:35 am : link
he’s worth keeping for depth, maybe he’ll develop if flanked by better guards
