I don’t’ know but listening/watching Schoen was like a JJ

plato : 1/26/2022 8:39 pm
replay only shaved and in a suit. Everything was “process”, communication, competiveness, etc. They really sounded the same as to goals and methods.Maybe it will be different, and,i hope so, but it sounded like a smoothie salesman. JJ with a classed up accent and smoother presentation.

I hope i’m wrong and he’s great. But I AM a long time resident of MO.
Huh?

I just watched his interview with Tiki & Tierney and I found him very pleasant and personable.
No one should form an outlook of his performance

Bases on a press conference.

It is also okay to like how it sounded.
Everyone

Always loved judge’s pressers until the end of last year. He always said the right things. His issue was he didnt back up the words. No reason to doubt Schoen til’ he gives us a reason.
um because Judge's problem

never were what he said in press conferences (until the adversity this year)...

Do you think successful executives and coaches say anything drastically different?

I dont know what you people expect from these pressers tbh.
Most coaches and executives sound fine at PCs when
BigBlueNH : 1/26/2022 8:48 pm : link
(1) they are just taking the job, or (2) are winning. Where things go south at PCs is when they are forced to defend the shitty product they are charged with putting on the field.

I remember being super impressed with Derek Fisher's introductory PC as Knicks coach. Didn't mean a thing.
We as fans sometimes read into press conferences too much

And I don’t blame people that do, we haven’t had much to think about based on what’s happened on the field. But like what was said above, judge was good in press conferences, that was a positive from him.

The problem was that he wasn’t a good head coach, and as fans there’s really nothing we can tell from the outside other that wait and see if there are positive results. Trying to predict the good or the bad from these press conferences is pointless.
I thought the presser was weak.

He has a couple of the same speaking quirks that JJ had. And he came across as a stuffed shirt.

But a presser is only so much. He was nervous. That was obvious.

I care more about his intelligence, judgement and flexibility.

You'll be amazed at how Schoen sounds

if he hits gold in the next two draft and the Giants start winning.
Analyzing pressers in general is a tricky exercise
gameday555 : 1/26/2022 8:58 pm : link
Particularly introductory ones. We were all making fun of Nick Sirianni's boom goes the dynamite PC last year, and of course he goes on to make the playoffs year 1.

Not saying there's nothing to be gleaned from them, but often times the significant takeaways only become clear with the benefit of hindsight.

As opposed to JJ

THIS is the guy that has the responsibility of putting together players for an HC to be competitive, but our dearth of talent definitely requires a process.
I’m not worried about his comments until he shows he’s in over his head and tanks like JJ in order to get the boot.
I’m trying

to avoid watching, much less making judgment based on pressers. If the past few years have taught us anything, it’s that the ability to talk to the media and the ability to win have little to do with one another. I really don’t care about the former anymore. And I don’t think many of us do. Let’s see some W’s (and L’s) and then we’ll know what we’ve got.
Uh, it's the losing.....
Bob from Massachusetts : 1/26/2022 9:49 pm : link
press conferences are nice, and it's better to have good press conferences than bad ones, but unless they say something cruel or evil, does anybody care so long as the team wins? Personally I found Gettleman's press conferences kind of amusing, and if they won 10 games and made the playoffs I think a lot of people would have warmed up to him. But, uhhhhh, it's the losing! The press conferences don't make them lose. Or win.
It’s just a bad taste still in your mouth.

You’ll get over it. But I feel it too.
Look, talk is cheap
Hammer : 1/26/2022 10:35 pm : link
and no matter what they say at their press conferences the proof is what is on the field and what is on the scoreboard.

You just can't rely on what they say to the media, because they are all going to say the same things.

If the Giants turn it around and put a competitive squad on the field, all is well.

If not, then we're back at the drawing board all over again.

I hope it's the former rather than the latter.
All of these guys say exactly the same thing
Jesse B : 1/27/2022 9:23 am : link
No matter who hires them or where they are hired from.

"We're going for tough football players"

"We're looking for good football players at all positions"

"We want to be thorough, disciplined, do what we need to win"

We have to trust the process....etc

And for good reason--those are important things.

All pressers should just go like this Hopefully we get the right quarterback, some good lines and some explosive pieces and I bet we will win a whole lotta games.
Judge
bronxct1 : 1/27/2022 9:24 am : link
I don't think Judge was wrong at all and he'd probably be someone that worked well with Schoen. The problem is Judge didn't have a GM thinking the same way as he did. Long-term success is built on having a good process and all the things these guys both talked about. It was a waste of 2 years as while you can see the impact Judge had on Gettleman's draft process the last two years it was obvious that they weren't in agreement given Gettleman's reactions during the draft.

It's also a press conference and I don't expect a lot of changes this offseason, hopefully, better decisions. Once the draft is over I think we'll hear about changes through the next offseason and can compare a bit.
