is the timing of the recording and amount of time he spent on it during the season.
While you can't expect a player to think of nothing but football during the season, any decent album should require a fair amount of preparation. Side hobby during the season, ok. putting in major effort on a side project during season, not ok. Recording during season, definitely not ok.
off season, no big deal. But, any decent album isn't getting done starting from scratch in the scant weeks since the season ended.
Maybe he spent little time on it, and just pumped something out. That would raise red flags regarding the effort he puts into his crafts.
This is silly. Even if he spent 4 hours on it a night. It's not like he couldn't still work 10 hours a day on his job. Even the best players in the world do things with their free time (ranging from being dad to their kids, to playing video games, to going out partying all night). They are 20 something year old kids.
Their energy is boundless. If the only two things he cares about are music and football there is plenty of time for both.
When I was 22 years old I was working 10 hour days, going to school at night to finish my degree, and still help raising a baby (whoops).
This is the thing, if you think you're recording an album for four hours a night strictly in your free time, and don't have your phone blowing up throughout the day during the producing/mixing/editing phase, and/or don't have much longer hours than that along the way, I think you're being naive.
The timing of this album's drop suggests to me that he was obviously working on this throughout the season. He was also injured with various bumps and bruises throughout the season. He also contracted Covid - TWICE. Was one of those due to time in the studio?
If KT was healthy and kicking ass on the field and also made this work as a side project, I think most would admire it. The fact that he has been somewhat unreliable as a player does make the timing of this album's release at least a little bit curious.
I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that this sort of thing should be an offseason project for KT in general, but especially during his rookie year when one might hope that he's trying to absorb as much football expertise as possible to be a great player.

Having hobbies is good for your mental health. He needs an outlet outside of football. This one seems a lot better than partying on boats in Miami...

Bullshit. People play video games for hours a day. This guy goes into a studio for fun. It's not about making a living at all. He's in a high pressure job. Focusing solely on football can lead to burnout and poor mental health and ultimately disinterest in the game. You need outlets when you're in a high pressure environment like that. Why do you these guys go out drinking and driving? They're under tremendous stress. Writing lyrics and poetry and making music is a fantastic way of battling through that pressure. It is by no means a second job.

So when players host podcasts, does that ruin their credibility as professional athletes?
I don't see the big deal about having a second "job" particularly a creative one.
Need to stop any outside activity and focus on solely your work profession and whatever your superior tells you to do.
All you should be doing is be the best employee you can and raise your level of production/output/team spirit/etc while you make sure all your time/decisions/efforts is to drive the company forward and advance their mission statement and company culture.
Otherwise sit down with your hyprocrisy and chill out.
idk, in my profession it is not common to workout, watch film and prepare for work 24/7/365 but in professional sports it seems different, if you want to keep up with your peers and excel

You think a weekly podcast (or even a radio appearance) has the same time commitment as recording an album?
And appeared in movies and was involved in Video Games. Over a much longer season.
I admittedly don't know anything about recording music but can't some of the man hours involved in recording an album be outsourced by a young guy with a lot of disposable income?
I think a number of people on this thread would be surprised what it takes to write, record, and produce a record.
I think that same number of people would be surprised what it takes to train, rehab, and prep to be a word class professional athlete.
I'm sure you're an expert on both to be able to tell why and how it's impossible to do both. Dame Lillard must be the fucking messiah.
Damian Lillard has proven he’s good at basketball. He seems like an ultra-focused high performing guy who’s made of different stuff than most people. Owning a record company, recording music, and being a really good basketball player is a hell of an achievement.
Kadarius Toney can’t tie his own shoes and once thought it was a good idea to bring an air rifle to a gunfight.
Toney’s got a lot to prove before he’s in the same universe as Lillard. Lillard produces the goods on the court and the mic. Toney, ehh.
And appeared in movies and was involved in Video Games. Over a much longer season.

Obviously Shaq would have been better served to shut up and dribble.
Listening to his tracks it sounds like a middle schooler wrote and produced them, so my guess is this fits into the messing around with his friends category I posted above. And definitely not in the serious artist writing, recording, producing and promoting column.
GarageBand away little jokka.
Hopefully he spends more time honing his receiving skills than the 20 hours someone put into those cuts.
lol. This place is melting down over a 17 minute mixtape.
My FOL is a record producer and former A&R exec at a major label. I’ve also seen firsthand what it takes many of times. Recording a real album is a bear. Recording a real album DIY is even worse.
Laying down 17 mins on GarageBand with iPad beats isn’t an album, that’s what it sounds like Toney has here. Good, fun times.
RE: RE: Did people think he was going to spend the offseason
reading his playbook? Especially since it is not the one they will use next year?
I don't care what he does off the field if he can get healthy and contribute. If he can't do that he will need something to fall back on.
The issue is, this wasn't done in the offseason.
Albums take more than two weeks to record.
You may not have listened to any of his stuff on Spotify. It would be disappointing to think any of those songs were more than a 10-15 minute investment of time.
back in the day, we had to walk to and from, uphill both ways, to a recording studio, putting real resources, and thus real effort, into making an album.
I forgot that nowadays, you can fart into a microphone, and put it out into the world without ever leaving your living room. Also forgot that due to that ease, every time someone has a thought, it can be cast out there, whether anyone wants it or not.

“Double Sneak”
“Bend N Break”

“Conservative Judge”

You think a weekly podcast (or even a radio appearance) has the same time commitment as recording an album?
I think that same number of people would be surprised what it takes to train, rehab, and prep to be a word class professional athlete.

I'm sure you're an expert on both to be able to tell why and how it's impossible to do both. Dame Lillard must be the fucking messiah.
I admittedly don't know anything about recording music but can't some of the man hours involved in recording an album be outsourced by a young guy with a lot of disposable income?

Damian Lillard has proven he’s good at basketball. He seems like an ultra-focused high performing guy who’s made of different stuff than most people. Owning a record company, recording music, and being a really good basketball player is a hell of an achievement.
Kadarius Toney can’t tie his own shoes and once thought it was a good idea to bring an air rifle to a gunfight.
Toney’s got a lot to prove before he’s in the same universe as Lillard. Lillard produces the goods on the court and the mic. Toney, ehh.

Obviously Shaq would have been better served to shut up and dribble.
GarageBand away little jokka.
Hopefully he spends more time honing his receiving skills than the 20 hours someone put into those cuts.
If you’re ignorant to the hip hop world you may not realize that.
lol. This place is melting down over a 17 minute mixtape.

Or ignorant to music in general. My old band recorded a 16 track album a few years back, and the singer was there for like 2 days.
Good, fun times.

reading his playbook? Especially since it is not the one they will use next year?
I don't care what he does off the field if he can get healthy and contribute. If he can't do that he will need something to fall back on.
The issue is, this wasn't done in the offseason.
Albums take more than two weeks to record.
You may not have listened to any of his stuff on Spotify. It would be disappointing to think any of those songs were more than a 10-15 minute investment of time.
I forgot that nowadays, you can fart into a microphone, and put it out into the world without ever leaving your living room. Also forgot that due to that ease, every time someone has a thought, it can be cast out there, whether anyone wants it or not.

Kinda like posts on BBI.
Even Golladay has the same amount of albums as he does td’s this year.
