If Daboll selects Miami over NYG

Essex : 1/27/2022 9:35 am
what does that say about his faith in Joe Schoen. Daboll has worked with him for four years, he knows who is responsible for Buffalo’s success. If he think Schoen had a great part of it or is a great football mind wouldn’t it be in his best interest to link up with him in NY. In other words, if he chooses Miami how is that not at least some indictment of what he thinks of Schoen.

There are many factors…
Jarvis : 1/27/2022 9:45 am : link
1) He can’t be announced by the Giants until after today at the earliest due to the Rooney rule.

2) There may be more important things to him than working weigh Schoen. Perhaps he wants to work with Tua as a QB. Perhaps he wants no state income tax. Perhaps after living in Buffalo the past 4 years, the though of the weather in Miami is enticing. (I moved to San Diego from NY after i finished my residency because i was over the cold).

3) There is a the chance that the Giants didn’t love what they heard in the interview. They added on Leslie Frazier AFTER they finished with Daboll..which was interesting timing. The Giants may have decided they want someone who has HC experience. Quinn, FLores, Frazier all do. There may have been a Stark contrast listening to Daboll after hearing Quinn making them realize they wanted that experience.

I posted that article three times including yesterday. Try to keep up.
If Daboll wasn't confident in Schoen and didn't want to work with him
Mike in NJ : 1/27/2022 9:47 am : link
He wouldn't have taken 2 interviews with the Giants. I think if Daboll goes to Miami, it is because Schoen tipped him off that he isn't going to be offered the position here.

Daboll/Schoen, wherever they ended up, have been looked at as a package deal since well before the end of the season. If Daboll ends up going elsewhere, it says more about the Maras than it does about what people think about Joe Schoen.
BBI is amazing, Schoen can't win already
PatersonPlank : 1/27/2022 9:47 am : link
Whatever happened to hire the best GM and let him do his job?

If he hires Daboll, then why didn't he do a more complete HC search instead of just focusing in on his buddy from Buffalo

If he hires someone else, then its because Daboll is dissing him for something.

Whatever it means
Sammo85 : 1/27/2022 9:50 am : link
it will be speculated on, probably incorrectly.

All that matters is we find a good head coach to help us win.

It's not Daboll or nothing. There's a lot of roads to take here.
Lower taxes
Biteymax22 : 1/27/2022 9:52 am : link
Better weather, more to do than NJ. It may just means he likes Miami as a place to live better than NJ...

christian : 1/27/2022 9:53 am : link
I think it probably means Daboll enjoyed being in the South, will net more money because of the favorable taxes and cost of living, has a relationship with Tua, and likes the talent overall in Miami more.

The Question was not if Schoen picks someone over Daboll, it was if Daboll picks someone else over Schoen.

I like to think of myself as a rational thinker--if I am a HC candidate, I realize that I might get one shot at this. I am going wherever I feel I have the most chance of success. Tua might be slightly better than Jones, but he is not a guy you are going to go with. Buffalo has a young QB in that division much better than Tua. The NFC East is a weak division, the GM is pledging to revamp this operation. We draft 5 and 7 this year.
And for the state income tax guys, are you willing to give up 7% of your salary if you think you can coach somewhere ten years because you will build a winning program or would you rather not be taxed the 7% and go to a situation where you are not as likely to succeed. if he has faith in Schoen, I would go with him
I would be more confident
Dankbeerman : 1/27/2022 9:56 am : link
in winning games in Miami. As HC you better win and quick. GM may be all about the rebuild but coaches that win 5 games a year get canned.

BBI “work” ethic..😎

Or reading comprehension, maybe. Nobody said if Schoen was the driving force for someone else. The question is if Daboll is the guy with the choice.

Personally, I’d rather live in South Florida and not pay taxes on my income.

And, he’s familiar with Tua and Waddle from his college days. Perhaps he likes that roster more- I would not blame him.
Who knows, maybe it says more
Section331 : 1/27/2022 9:57 am : link
about Schoen's faith in Daboll? Maybe Daboll takes the Miami job because he knew he wasn't getting this one. Trying to read the tea leaves is just a waste of tea (and I don't even like tea).

Yeah because a guy from Canada who has spent the last four years in Buffalo is probably just waiting to be a Beach Bum. Rational, I know.

eli4life : 1/27/2022 10:10 am : link
If you coach/play in Miami with no state tax, when they travel to say New York where they do do they have to pay a state tax to ny because they technically earned that game check there
...
ryanmkeane : 1/27/2022 10:10 am : link
Ross seems like the kind of owner that will open up the checkbook for a HC. They've been pretty bad for awhile now. Perhaps the $$ will be the main factor and not necessarily Daboll's ability to work with Schoen.

Doubledeuce22 : 1/27/2022 10:24 am : link
He already inherits a top 10 defense and I'm sure if he chooses Miami he thinks that he can make Tua into a very good QB. Let's not also forget money. No state income tax in Florida.

Miami has a more talented team, a young QB in place, and a lot of cap room.

The Giants are rebuilding and do not have much cap space at the moment due to Gettleman.

First, on a 4 million dollar a year contract it is about 280-320K a year. Even assuming the Giants don't factor that into their contract, that is 1.2 million over 4 years. His second contract would be probably be worth 20 million or more--it is a really short sighted move to go somewhere because of an income tax. The goal is to win. He is going to be against Josh Allen with Tua?!?!. There defense is not anything special, when they played good teams like Tennessee and TB, they got blown out of the water. This is not a good team or a good situation. In fact, Flores's best selling point is that he got some middling results with this team.
I think it will be Quinn
kelly : 1/27/2022 10:45 am : link
I don't want to take a chance on another coordinator to HC.

Quinn is well respected and I think would assemble the best staff. We need stability and a good staff because this turnaround is going to take a few years at least.

What do Benny Mac
GiantGrit : 1/27/2022 10:53 am : link
Joe Judge and Brian Daboll have in common?

They've never been a HC.

Yeah, I get everyone who succeeds needed a chance. We suck at choosing first time HC's.

Hire an experienced, winning HC. I'd feel great if he chose Miami.
Patrick Graham for 2022
Eliyah : 1/27/2022 10:53 am : link
and then we hand it all over to Sean Payton. We trade the Mara's to Dallas for Jerrah and everyone's happy...for 5 minutes.

if both teams even offer him the job. None of us will likely know "what is says". It could mean a lot of bad things about his impression of the Giants job but it may also mean Miami was a better fit for him for whatever reasons.

but one thing that is probably true is the Giants (and their sycophant fans) will spin it that whoever the Giants pick was their first choice all along, like Judge over Rhule.

It's being reported that Quinn is staying with the Cowboys.

Unfortunately, it's starting to look like Flores is going to be our guy. I'm still holding out hope for Daboll.

Is no matter the outcome there will be fans who are unhappy. There is far too much statement of fact around here for things we have only the slightest of insight to. It would be nice if we could at least wait for Schoen to fuck up once before slaughtering him as many had done already. But that's just me.

He may want to wear shorts in December instead of parkas and pants. I do not believe it says anything about Schoen. Our roster has about 18 players worth keeping. If your a new coach and you know NY has a history of their fans only giving you a one yr grace that you have to win by yr 2 or you are unemployed. Maybe he is thinking why wait for a new roster to try and build a team. Take over one that has some talent on it instead.

over NY. Market and prestige aside, he'd get to work for a guy he already knows and gets along with, and owners who'll likely keep him past his fire-by date. Contrast that with Miami who just fired a HC who won for them.
