Chris Pettit- How does he still have a job?

BLUATHRT : 1/27/2022 10:42 am
In the thread regarding the Jacksonville job, talking about this organization and what it looked like with DG and Pettit at the helm, got me to thinking...

Going back to his burner handle on twitter defending himself, DG and Judge, how could you keep him on staff? The most logical response would be : " We are in the middle of the draft process and removing your head of scouting would be foolish until after the draft is complete". I'd argue keeping Pettit and/or any of his closely-tied scouts on when there's already questions about his integrity, and having his hand in the draft process, he could greatly impact in a negative way considering he may know he's on the way out the door.

Thinking this is a potential recipe for disaster for Schoen's first draft. Thoughts?
FYI the guy that outed Petit as Mustang lover admitted he is a troll

he probably was running both accounts

Schoen told you yesterday...

He's not going to take the BBI pound of flesh approach.

He's going to give those in the building a chance to work and he will make his recommendations based on that, presumably after this coming draft.

I remain hopeful Pettit gets canned sooner rather than later

i think changes like that will be made after this years draft.

the draft is only like 12 weeks away. all evals are done. hopefully pettit will be gone sooner than later.
Traditional Approach
GiantGrit : 1/27/2022 10:50 am : link
Is to keep personnel & scouting staff in place until after the draft, then you make changes.
The evaluation of the staff
Mike from Ohio : 1/27/2022 10:50 am : link
and who stays and who goes is underway, but those changes will not be made before the draft. Petit is not making the decision on who gets drafted. Schoen will meet with them and go over their grades/views and draw his own conclusions about who to draft and how effective Petit's organization is in identifying and grading talent.

When the draft is complete is when you will see changes start.
Because you just don’t do it till after the draft

Like him or not he has a lot of valuable info. I’m sure JS is pretty direct and to the point in what info he wants. I’d also add if they are collaborative with the decisions on players someone should be able to tell if his evaluations suck or not

Or Quinn gave him copies of the pictures he must have
Didn't Schoen also say
Sprintfish : 1/27/2022 10:54 am : link
that they've gone through the evaluations of the first four rounds with the Bills (was that the press conference or today's GMFB... all burring together). Given that, he's already coming in with a lot of knowledge that he trusts about the top of the draft.

That would mitigate a lot of any hypothetical "funny business."
And I'm sure
chitt17 : 1/27/2022 10:55 am : link
He is also well aware of who the Bill's like.

So that may also help!
Because they took a quiz on how many draft picks they have

“Looking at everyone” because that’s what he has to say to be diplomatic….He’s not trying to come into a new place and start burning shit down (even though many of us would love that)

Schoen seems to be a unifier by nature… IMO the best leaders are always the ones that can create a culture where people buy in to the process and genuinely do their best to pull it through.

That’s when you have real teamwork throughout an organization and success is almost a lock.
Schoen will do his best to be open minded about the current staff…he did say he knows what it’s like to be in those seats during change. He’s going to be thorough but fair in evaluating the situation IMO.

NOW…. On the flip side, if you don’t think Joe hasn’t already looked this situation over closely, then I have a bridge to sell you. He’s got changes in mind for sure, plus he wants to bring people he trusts to help him tackle the biggest job of life.

I think Pettit and such are here through the draft out of necessity. Same reason you can’t bring in “your” guys yet because they are currently helping their current teams draft.

In May we will see movement in these areas… no doubt about it

Whenever I wanna a laugh...

I read his bio page on Giants.com.

It would make North Korea media blush.
Gotta figure he isn't going anywhere
Go Terps : 1/27/2022 11:14 am : link
It's a collaborative process between John/Chris/Schoen, and two thirds of them hired Pettit.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if Pettit went anywhere.

It's murky whether he is a "Mara" guy or a Gettleman guy.

He and Gettleman seemed to be tight.

I'm confident Schoen will take a lot of opinion and feedback from the room into account, but make a decisive choice for drafting this year given he's not coming in from the cold on the scouting/process - having done it for long time even before the Bills.

To me, Schoen's success resides on getting his guy in as Asst GM and then some scouts to ensure he has stable foundation for his "team", not the old guard.

Buffalo to tell Schoen to clean house!
They're stuck with the current department until after the draft
David B. : 1/27/2022 11:37 am : link
After that, I expect there will be some changes.
They're keeping the current group in place
Heisenberg : 1/27/2022 11:41 am : link
until the draft. It's hard to change scouting staffs right before the draft. The guys you might want can't really leave the teams they are at.

So, not surprised that the staff is gonna stay stable for the next 3 months. Everyone gets a chance for an extended interview for the job they have. Petit included

They have to keep him until the Draft is over.

He has all of the inside info.
Any GM will evaluate the team he's getting
Jim in Forest Hills : 1/27/2022 12:06 pm : link
plus the draft is right around the corner. I'm sure changes will happen once that dust settles.
The scouting teams are in the middle of player evals
Section331 : 1/27/2022 12:08 pm : link
and the college all star games and combine are right around the corner. Not a great time to make wholesale changes. Besides, Schoen barely knows any of these guys, he needs to evaluate them and decide their futures with the club.

If it doesn't change at all, that will be exceptionally discouraging given how wrong they have been in the draft.
Joe has already evaluated this upcoming draft class
TheBlueprintNC : 1/27/2022 1:18 pm : link
with a far superior front office and scouting system.. He will be able to easily see who knows what they are talking about just by comparing it to what he already knows from the Bills.
Also he will know after the draft
TheBlueprintNC : 1/27/2022 1:20 pm : link
what needs to be worked on and who needs to be replaced and will be able to bring in people accordingly.

Feel like I need to clarify as *I* am the guy who "outed" Mustang Lover.

I most certainly have no burners and I don't have the time to run any more accounts haha.

I said that it "likely" is a troll/not Petit

JonC : 1/27/2022 4:19 pm : link
teams tend to not make changes until after the draft is completed, as much of the scouting is well underway and there's no sense throwing the info away at this late stage.
