what a tense game. I watched the last minutes with my head buried in a pillow. I couldn’t stand the stress of it. (I spent the last few minutes of the 49ers game in 2012 the same way.)
But that Super Bowl really meant so much. It had been a rotten year for me. My grandmother, who I was very close with, had died two months earlier. I was a freshman in high school and had a lot of trouble adjusting. I got the worst grades of my life that year, which led to much rancor between my father and me. However, for those three hours on Sundays, all of that went away. It was a respite from the turmoil.
it also gave us one of the greatest SI cover pictures
Everson Walls... made a helluva tackle late in that game to prevent a TD. Bill B gets all the credit for his D game plan, but the offensive game plan of eating clock, grinding, was what won it. Kelly ran out of time.
I think I read that Matt Bahr thought Norwood might overswing (I believe that would have been his longest FG on grass), which would increase the chances he would push it wide. And when he heard the contact he expected it to be wide right.
Wish I knew where I'd read that. I suppose perhaps I dreamt it considering how awesome that day was.
How did Hostetler hold that ball when Bruce Smith grabbed his wrist?
Mark Ingram's 3rd down catch on 3rd and 12 running over and through people.
1) No clue. That was HUGE. Instead of 17-2, it's 12=2. I think 17-2 & it might have been game.
2) 'In a game full of superlatives, Mark Ingram's effort on 3rd & long can be described as...inspired. The drive was kept alive. And the clock kept ticking.'
Everson Wall's open field tackle on Thomas on that last drive...who knows how many yards Thurman gets there.
Feels like yesterday. Such an amazing win. Shows how good coaching can dictate the outcome of a game.
Yup. I have this cover signed by him and framed

2008NFCC (2007season) followed by SBXlii rivals it, imo
