is I think Schoen and Grier overlapped and worked together in scouting in Miami together.
Schoen can probably get the skinny on Flores from Grier. If Grier and Flores really had a contested/bad relationship, I find it hard to believe Schoen wouldn't find out about it and not have concerns with bringing Flores aboard.

Schoen mentioned Grier yesterday in his acknowledgements so he will definitely have a good read on him.
From most of what I've read reported out of miami from their better writers Flores and Grier weren't in a power struggle or terribly out of sync, Grier mostly differed to Flores. They were both on board with Tua, Grier let Flores make his staff changes, etc.
The biggest difference between them was that Grier was known to get along well with everyone and rumored to have a good relationship with Ross - intimated by Barry Jackson in a pejorative way that he was willing to kiss Ross' ass whereas Flores didn't and had more of a generally tougher demeanor.
The most likely reason for Flores getting canned unexpectedly is the obvious reason - the owner. Whether or not that means he can beat out Daboll in Schoen's eyes is a separate question.
Not enough words have yet been invented to adequately and fully describe the national clown show the Miami Dolphins became Monday with the sudden and utterly stupid firing of head coach Brian Flores.
Team owner Stephen Ross might as well have bought a billboard alongside Interstate 95 that depicts him wearing a big red Bozo nose and the word “INCOMPETENT” stamped across his forehead. The failed owner, good at spending money on facility improvements but very bad at fielding winning football teams, has sunk to a new low.
Firing Flores was so out-of-the-blue unexpected that when I first heard the news I laughed at the ludicrousness, assuming it a joke. Decades in sports journalism have seen me rarely surprised by much, but this shocked me. The timing. The senselessness. Everything.
I mean, Flores had just beaten Bill Belichick on Sunday, 33-24. Beaten him for the fourth time in six meetings."
An article trashing the Miami owner. Part of the writers evidence to trash the owner is that Miami has only 3 winning seasons in 13 years. I’d kill for that record.

I think it's pretty clear that Flores butted heads with Grier, Ross, or more likely, both. Why should Schoen accept Grier's opinion as fact? Some of the claims out of Miami make no sense.
Thee idea that Flores stopped talking to his assistants midway through the seasons is the most egregious claim, one that doesn't hold the Dolphins in a good light. There are 2 options; either the Dolphins are lying, or they are utterly incompetent for allowing a situation like that fester for months without doing something about it.
A HC not speaking with his own assistants is mutiny, and not only grounds for immediate termination, but grounds for voiding his contract. That the Dolphins are paying his contract should tell us that this claim is bogus, since all they would need were those assistants to verify the claims.
So if they lied about that, what else have they lied about? It certainly should bring every other claim under extreme scrutiny, and should give Flores the benefit of doubt.

That's basically what the article says, that the owner is a shitshow.
