1 reason why Vic Fangio as DC would be an absolute home run

Anakim : 1/27/2022 1:46 pm
Aside from him being one of the best DCs of this generation who consistently got his defenses into the top-10 in Total Defense…

I don’t think Fangio will get another HC job. I know he just interviewed with the Jaguars and his tenure in Denver wasn’t a total disaster, but given his age, I don’t think he’ll get another HC job. What this means is that we could be looking at a Spagnuolo with Kansas City situation. Spags was an awful HC with the Rams and even though he’s done excellently year after with his defense in Kansas City, no teams have interviewed or are interviewing him for a HC job. So the Chiefs essentially have a top-tier, grade A DC who is in no danger of leaving for a HC job. Similar thing happened with Dick LeBeau with the Steelers after his disastrous HC stint with the Bengals.

Fangio could fit into this category as well. Graham wouldn’t because he’s pretty young and hasn’t been a HC yet. Wink Martindale MIGHT given his age, but he also hasn’t been a HC yet.
This would be great with an offensive head coach

I'd be all for it.
This is who I want as DC as well

But if Flores is the HC I can't see Fangio matching with him. I can see it if Daboll gets the HC gig
I dunno

to some degree Fangio is like Wade Phillips, not quite top tier but better than good. But would he fit in with what appears to be a younger staff of coworkers?
I must say

this is a very good point.

Who really wrote that?

I kid, I kid!

Schwartz would be my pick. I don't think he would get a head coaching job for a while if he gets another one.
This reminds me

of posts in late 2020 early 2021 worrying about Patrick Graham getting an HC job.

Just hire the best guy for the job. Don't worry about the extra stuff.
Fangio would be a great choice,

but a lot depends on who the HC is. Graham said he ran Flores's D scheme in Miami, so if Flores insists on that, I don't see Fangio as being interested.
I find it hard to believe

he would leave for another DC gig.
Would love to see Daboll as HC

and Fangio as DC.
You're right

I mentioned this in a thread a couple of weeks ago when discussing Munchak as the new OL coach. If Daboll is hired as HC I will be most anxious about the OL coach position over every other coaching position.

Fangio has been my top choice as DC. The addition of Fangio to Daboll's staff would make Daboll's transition to HC much easier by allowing him to focus solely on offense.

My ideal staff would feature:
HC Brian Daboll
OC Ken Dorsey
DC Vic Fangio
OL Mike Munchak
Fangio and Munchak would be a a great start to new staff

It's always beneficial to have assistants with HC experience when you have a first time HC such as Daboll.
