The Warriors couldnt get a star for the 8th and 14th pick. If Dallas wants a superstar next to Luka, the 23rd pick wont even sniff it.
They cant trade a pick until 2025 if they get the pick back they traded to the Knicks it frees them to use the 22 and 24 pick in trades
But the picks are going to be high picks. Its not like they are top 5 or top 7 picks. No one is trading a start to get the 21st pick in one draft and the 23rd pick in another.

The mavs playing well has no bearing on why they would do the deal for Brunson, they arent winning a title as currently constructed..
The player they get back is irrelevant because more than likely he will be part of a bigger trade in the offseason..
They arent resigning Brunson so its either get something of value now or wait til the offseason and get basically nothing
