and saw the new season came out on Netflix, so I started binging it.
As I was watching I started getting a de ja vu feeling and I was able to predict almost every plot sequence. I thought, wow this show has become so predictable.
then I realized I was re-watching season 3, not the new season 4. lol.
Great show, I recommend it.
I'd also add Peaky Blinders if it hasn't been mentioned yet. the 6th and final season comes out some time this year.
I enjoy it on occasion but shows are so much better in smaller sessions IMO. Currently watching the below.
Started Ozark Season 4 - i enjoy it but its becoming very breaking bad, where the stakes are so high and absurd that its no longer believable.
Sopranos - wife never saw it so we've been watching, just finished the season 5 finale lastnight. Its much better than I remember (haven't seen it since it came out).
Euphoria - best show on TV in my opinion. It isn't for everyone but you'll never see a better cast of younger actors (late teens, early 20's). One of the most raw/brutal shows you'll see.
Peaky Blinders Season 5 - great show although watching them in quick succession burnt me out. Stopped after watching 1-3 over a few weeks time period and watch season 4 maybe 6 months later and just started 5.
Also to note there are some good new shows with only a season or 2 so far but are worth watching like some of the super hero shows like Loki, peacemaker, etc., the star wars shows(mandelorian, boba fett, obi-one looks like it might be good, lock and key, hell I even enjoyed the new Sabrina remake lol
I really like it so far but oddly and probably one of the only shows I can think of I can’t binge watch it for some reason
I feel the same way about Ozark, it's actually why I started Archive 81. I checked out the podcast it's based on, it's interesting. Like an old radio show. Short 15 minute episodes so easily digestible.
And just can't get past the ridiculously bad dialog and overactive by Costners daughter. I know it's a popular show and other than her it's interesting. But when she's on the screen the whole thing becomes a comedy. I can't not laugh at her. She was the same way in True Detective but not to this extent.
and probably low watch rate relative to quality (ie. yeah you can say Breaking Bad but most have probably seen it)
Community (give it through episode 7.. thats when it becomes the show it is.. Batman..if you know you know)
The Leftovers - 3 season Damon Lindelof masterpiece which will also make you a Max Richter fan for life
The OA (only watch this if you are OK with not having closure since Netlix inexplicably canceled after 2 seasons of extraordinary television..fans still have hope to bring it back)
And just can't get past the ridiculously bad dialog and overactive by Costners daughter. I know it's a popular show and other than her it's interesting. How so? I only ask because I liked Yellowstone a lot and am considering subscribing to Paramount+ mainly because I want to watch 1883.
That's 6 seasons. 60 shows (subtitles). Also, Gangs of London and Gommorah were very good. Ozark has been mentioned. Check out Beforeignor on HBO Max. Interesting show but subtitles.
It’s just been the one season but I loved it. It has a lot of the same people who did The Leftovers, so if you enjoyed that I think you’ll like this too.
I just re-watched Chernobyl again. What a great production that was.

I find the daughter on 1883 annoying (even more so than Beth on Yellowstone).
show that had a great cast was "Mare of Easttown."
I thought the series started off really strong (first three episodes) and then fell apart a bit. I can't get into specifics without spoilers. But what kept me watching was the cast. Kate Winslet was superb in it. Who knew the Titanic chick would evolve into the actress who starred in "The Reader" and "Mare of Easttown"?

That show was filmed not far from where I live. My wife's co-worker was Winslettxs dialect coach because the accent here is so...interesting.
wife and i binged "Safe" on netflix the past few nights. Main guy from Dexter stars in it. 8 epidodes - good acting and plot line. Some murder mystery twists and turns. Nothing to write home about but a good watch.

We must live close... some of the woods scenes were shot within a couple miles of my house...
that's cool. The transformation of that actress has been astounding.
For sure, funny that you mention The Reader bc I just watched it this past week.
Moze- I'm in western Delco about a hundred yards from the Delaware border. I'm guessing you're in Chester County? I thought it was funny that Mare was most definitely a Delco story but they chose to name it after a township from Chester County.

Small world..I'm also western Delco.. some friends on Creek Rd/Route 100 got some stipends for the road being shut down for production... the scene where a key item is thrown over a bridge is the concrete bridge over the Brandywine on 100 just north of Delaware border and probably darn close to you... and I run over that bridge when I do a 2-3 mile out and back..
I love the Brandywine and do a lot of hiking along there and in the park in DE. I'm a little south of there. Early in the show they mention Garnett Mine Rd, I'm just off Garnett Mine.
The Shield about the gray line between good an evil in this show exploring police corruption and effectivness was the show that launched FX and really good. Great ending. Nobody talks about it, but its one of my favorites. Now on Hulu.
Brotherhood on Showtime about two brothers in Rhode Island, one a politician and the other in the Irish Mob.
Dopesick on Hulu starring Michael Keaton about Oxycontin from the perspectives of the Pharmaceutical company, addicts, sales force, and investigators.
The Borgias on Showtime about the Borgia pope empire.
Togetherness on HBO if you like the Duplass brothers exploration of the human experience.
Snowfall on FX/Hulu about the beginning of the crack epidemic
Rebellion on Netflix about the 1916 Easter Uprising in Ireland. (Season 1 is okay, season 2 is fantastic).
Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Yellowstone, Dexter and like them all alot.
Watched the first 7 episodes of Ozark Season 1, and just couldn't get into it for some reason.
Six Feet Under was a drama series that started in 2001 on HBO and is on HBOMax these days is very good. The guy who plays "Dexter" (Michael C. Hall) is one of the stars in it, and I highly recommend it. That ending montage in the final episode is so sad (and well done) it's not even funny.
And just can't get past the ridiculously bad dialog and overactive by Costners daughter. I know it's a popular show and other than her it's interesting. But when she's on the screen the whole thing becomes a comedy. I can't not laugh at her. She was the same way in True Detective but not to this extent.
Agree. Got through a couple seasons but thought there were just too many plot holes. Surprised by that given the writer but left disappointed.
when my kids lived at home - I was always too busy. But now that I'm in the empty nest I have been enjoying the older shows and some newer ones too.
Not mentioned today (I think) the Wire. Very good.
Watching Breaking Bad for the third time all the way through in the last four years. Worth several views. Better Call Saul as well, obviously.
Agree on Mare of Easttown. Winslett is great, the story is good enough.
Some comedies that haven't been mentioned but have been pretty good: Search Party, The Flight Attendant, and just now I've been watching The Other Two, which I thought season one was absolutely great but other than the opener season two has been a bit disappointing. S2E2 was so bad I just about gave up on the whole show even though S1 was one of my fav recent comedies. Search Party was kind of the same way.
Also, for those who mentioned What We Do in the Shadows, Give Paranormal Activity (I think?) a try. Same group, set in Wellington shown from the police side investigating the paranormal. Absurd comedy but fun if you liked WWDITS (which I agree is one of the better comedies of the past decade).
Also to note there are some good new shows with only a season or 2 so far but are worth watching like some of the super hero shows like Loki, peacemaker, etc., the star wars shows(mandelorian, boba fett, obi-one looks like it might be good, lock and key, hell I even enjoyed the new Sabrina remake lol
if you like sci-fi you should watch the expanse
i use to LOVE stargate sg-1 (when richard dean anderson was the star) but man that show is really dated now
if you know you know. I think I'm a little older than most of you guys so I'll throw in some old shows that if you haven't seen and you can handle that some might be a little dated were great shows. I have no idea if these can be streamed or not.
Get Smart
Columbo
The Saint
The Wild Wild West
WKRP in Cincinnati
The Green Hornet - with Bruce Lee only 1 season
All in the Family
Barney Miller
favorites are Breaking bad and Outlander, with a happy nod to "Anne with an E". But FYI, if you want to lighten up a bit, check out something really different ... The Norsemen". It is hilariously different. Really wish they had more seasons.

+1. Me too. I was really looking forward to it, I really like Sam Elliot, and mid 19th century America is a time period I'm interested in. Watched the first 2 episodes and was very disappointed. There were so many historically incorrect things. I was going to subscribe to Paramount to see it, I'm glad I didn't

Yellowstone and 1883 are different shows.
Yellowstone stars Kevin Costner, 1883 stars Sam Elliott.
1883 is a prequel (if that's the right word) to Yellowstone but that is the only relation.
I'm on episode 6 and I have to be honest, it sucks. Add this to the list of shows who choose to go to extreme lengths to top the previous story arcs. The plot was always kind of out there but this season's absurdity is outrageous.

It was somewhat accurate on the pioneering of gaming tech and how it started/grew. Some diverse characters with interesting "backstories". I'm sure they will develop more of the characters over time, will watch the next season for sure.
As others have mentioned - Mindhunter - was amazing if serial killer hunting is your thing. I wish they offered another season but Netflix cut it for some reason. This was my most enjoyable show to watch out of many listed.
For All Mankind was great too, I enjoyed and love the space/science theme.....A little far fetched towards the end, but their goal wasn't to recreate what's already written in history books regarding Apollo missions.
but it’s pretty stupid now. Nothing makes sense, every situation is convenient. Just not what it was. Glad they are ending it.
Same here. However, rather than ending it, I wish they were fixing it so it was more realistic, because at times I feel like it's really compelling. It's just so over the top, and so dark at other times.
Its by Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Ex-Machina, Annihilation), about a tech company in Silicon Valley. Espionage, intrigue, philosophical questions of free will vs determinism. Beautifully shot, amazing visuals, really well acted especially by the lead (Sonoya Mizuno) as well as Nick Offerman as an eccentric silicon valley type and Stephen McKinley Henderson as a programmer. I'm about to watch the finale tonight after starting it last week and I'm actually really psyched to see where it ends up.
these past few weeks so I fall asleep early, but I can barely make it through an Ozark episode from the latest seasom without falling asleep. that show fell off a cliff.
if not for Ruth I'd stop watching, it's not that she's even attractive, that part is just so well acted and I've rarely seen a more perfectly cast character (maybe the midget who played Tyrion in GOT, but he already had the size thing going for him).
RE: I don't think The Queen's Gambit has been mentioned
It's fine, I'd punch Jonah in the crotch constantly if I could, and the nephew character is a ripoff (or homage) to the same exact type of character in better call Saul this past season.
Going to start pam and tommy on Hulu tonight.
If you like the Brits, try "Brassica" on Hulu. Great show.
T
Dopesick on Hulu starring Michael Keaton about Oxycontin from the perspectives of the Pharmaceutical company, addicts, sales force, and investigators.
Dopesick is definitely worth watching and packs a punch. Has some surprisingly good music and evocative performances, especially from Keaton of course. And it makes your blood boil.
It's a little clumsy in parts and some of the exposition feels really ham-fisted, but it also has a lot of welcome surprises. The religious fanatic family becomes a lot more sympathetic than you'd think, for example.
And just can't get past the ridiculously bad dialog and overactive by Costners daughter. I know it's a popular show and other than her it's interesting. I can't comment because I haven't seen the show yet, but the character that delivers that same experience to me is Brianna from Outlander. Good Lord, what a painful actress.
‘Godfather of Harlem” 2 seasons Forest Whitaker as Bumby Johnson
‘Condor” a loose take on 3 days of the condor
“Pennyworth”
“Britannia” - a weird story of the 2nd century second Roman invasion
I’m 3 episodes in and it’s pretty good. Also entire season was released
Thanks! I was thinking about starting a new thread asking about this. I've read all the books, and although it's not great literature, for me, they're really enjoyable. I think I'll start watching Reacher tonight.

That's my understanding also, that it's based on "Killing Floor".
I binged these shows (some on my own, some with my wife):
Homeland
Schitt's Creek
Cobra Kai
Handmaid's Tale
Shameless
Ted Lasso
The Morning Show (in the middle of this one)
Daredevil (in the middle of this one)
Designated Survivor (watched season 1 and lost interest in season 2)
Friday Night Lights
I'm sure there are some others I'm missing off the top of my head.
I'd like to watch Yellowstone and 1883, but I don't have Paramount+
3 of afterlife - written, directed, produced, and starring Ricky Gervais.
Like him or hate him that show just hits you if you have ever lost someone close to you and even if not I don't think I've really see loss portrayed so believably. I actually thought it might be based on reality it seemed so real.
plus he adds in his brand of humor which I like.
IMO the show is award worthy (which after his Golden Globes emceeing would be ironic) and I watched the first two episodes of season 3 so far, and there is zero degradation.
After life was great fun. For all his bluster Ricky gervais is a sap. He's all about love. Ghost town, an underseen movie of his, was also funny and schmaltzy all at the same time. Anybody watch the new Teacher? Wondering if it's worth watching.
I think it was like 4 or 5 seasons.
Designated Survivor was good. Interesting because the first 2 seasons I guess were on network tv but the final season was Netflix and suddenly they started cursing all the time lol.
was an awesome series. I never saw it when it originally aired. I binge watched all of the seasons in about two weeks. Such a great show based upon a true story. Wish it was continued...

Was one of those shows that was so good it even had a perfect ending, even down to the music choices with U2's "with or without you" playing as Paige got off the train the last stop in the US.
Any love for Macruber on peacock?
So stupid it's funny. Two episodes in but better than the movie.
Just watched "Perpetual Grace" on Amazon and it was super unusual but really really good. Hoping for a season 2.
Streaming services in times of covid are a blessing.
That movie rocked. Most entertaining new movie I've seen in years. Old fashioned kick-ass. Awesome soundtrack too.
This is a good one!
Surprised I forgot it!

Outlander (violence, porn, scenery)
The Righteous Gemstones (Light, satirical)
Ted Lasso (light, clever, uplifting, lots of likable characters)

"Nobody" was fun (albeit violent). Great cast.
I do want to see that...
Speaking of transformatons since you were talking about Kate Winslet...
Bob Odenkirk?? From a comedy writer to Mr. Show to Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul to Nobody?
It's like if Conan O'Brien was starring in an action movie. He and Odenkirk had like the same start..
The Morning Show on Apple

Odenkirk is fantastic in "Nobody"...if you like him, you'll like this movie (if you don't mind toxic masculinity).
Agree, but I never saw her developing into the actress that was i the Reader.
I'll tell you I'm binge watching now because my wife wanted me to finally see it... "Everybody Loves Raymond."
It's a good show. I love the parents and Robert.
I received a free subscription and its about to run out....ideas on Apple TV?
Watched the first 7 episodes of Ozark Season 1, and just couldn't get into it for some reason.
Six Feet Under was a drama series that started in 2001 on HBO and is on HBOMax these days is very good. The guy who plays "Dexter" (Michael C. Hall) is one of the stars in it, and I highly recommend it. That ending montage in the final episode is so sad (and well done) it's not even funny.

Mythic Quest
Really really solid
Agree. Got through a couple seasons but thought there were just too many plot holes. Surprised by that given the writer but left disappointed.
Burn notice
Game of thrones
If you like sci-fi
Various Star Trek shows (ds9 is my favorite)
Stargate
Also to note there are some good new shows with only a season or 2 so far but are worth watching like some of the super hero shows like Loki, peacemaker, etc., the star wars shows(mandelorian, boba fett, obi-one looks like it might be good, lock and key, hell I even enjoyed the new Sabrina remake lol
if you like sci-fi you should watch the expanse
i use to LOVE stargate sg-1 (when richard dean anderson was the star) but man that show is really dated now

eric odenkirk always outshines everybody else no matter the role or film. he's the best
like i've seen all of curb, the office, rick and morty, and i love them but i can't binge watch them

Get Smart
Columbo
The Saint
The Wild Wild West
WKRP in Cincinnati
The Green Hornet - with Bruce Lee only 1 season
All in the Family
Barney Miller
"Big Little Lies" at least season 1 on HBO
"Power" on Starz
"Longmire" on Netflix
"Justified" I think on Hulu
"Big Little Lies" on Netflix

Other than Ted Lasso (which I thought was great), and is free on their platform?

"For All Mankind" was pretty good, especially if you lived through that era. Other than that Apple TV is a disappointment.
the foundation and arrival on apple are tremendous
Kominsky method
Mayor of Kingstown
Vikings
Game of thrones
Mindhunter
Obviously, Soprano’s as well
I loved Kominsky Method

Do you remember Soap? I loved it.
+1. Me too. I was really looking forward to it, I really like Sam Elliot, and mid 19th century America is a time period I'm interested in. Watched the first 2 episodes and was very disappointed. There were so many historically incorrect things. I was going to subscribe to Paramount to see it, I'm glad I didn't

And just can't get past the ridiculously bad dialog and overactive by Costners daughter. I know it's a popular show and other than her it's interesting. But when she's on the screen the whole thing becomes a comedy. I can't not laugh at her. She was the same way in True Detective but not to this extent.

Yellowstone and 1883 are different shows.
Yellowstone stars Kevin Costner, 1883 stars Sam Elliott.
1883 is a prequel (if that's the right word) to Yellowstone but that is the only relation.
Thanks. Yes, I know they are different shows. I was referring to 1883.

MQ wasn't what I expected after watching the pilot. I think it's going to be pretty good.
Thx again
I'll tell you I'm binge watching now because my wife wanted me to finally see it... "Everybody Loves Raymond."
It's a good show. I love the parents and Robert.
Yes I agree! I also think the music in The Shield is up there with the best. Its probably the best pilot episode in the Golden age of TV as well.
:excited:
Disagree. I've enjoyed every single episode.
Me too. I feel the same.
Same here. However, rather than ending it, I wish they were fixing it so it was more realistic, because at times I feel like it's really compelling. It's just so over the top, and so dark at other times.
if not for Ruth I'd stop watching, it's not that she's even attractive, that part is just so well acted and I've rarely seen a more perfectly cast character (maybe the midget who played Tyrion in GOT, but he already had the size thing going for him).
Yes,forgot about that one. Excellent. There were a few stretches where it dragged, but that last episode was dynomite!
Going to start pam and tommy on Hulu tonight.
If you like the Brits, try "Brassica" on Hulu. Great show.
COVID hit and then Hardy has delays, but I think there will be a season 2.
Oof, that show is bleak. I definitely would recommend but I'd rather not watch it again myself.
I can't comment because I haven't seen the show yet, but the character that delivers that same experience to me is Brianna from Outlander. Good Lord, what a painful actress.
Father Ted fixes a dent in a car - ( New Window )
COVID hit and then Hardy has delays, but I think there will be a season 2.
I really like Tom Hardy. I loved him in "The Drop", with James Gondolfini.
‘Condor” a loose take on 3 days of the condor
“Pennyworth”
“Britannia” - a weird story of the 2nd century second Roman invasion
Thanks! I was thinking about starting a new thread asking about this. I've read all the books, and although it's not great literature, for me, they're really enjoyable. I think I'll start watching Reacher tonight.

I haven’t read them but I guess it’s based off killing floor

That's my understanding also, that it's based on "Killing Floor".
"Twin Peaks" (the original series)
"Lost"
"Fargo" (series, not the movie)
Comedies
"Mick" (2 seasons) fricken roll over funny
"Imposters" (2 seasons) a "dramedy" - good
Homeland
Schitt's Creek
Cobra Kai
Handmaid's Tale
Shameless
Ted Lasso
The Morning Show (in the middle of this one)
Daredevil (in the middle of this one)
Designated Survivor (watched season 1 and lost interest in season 2)
Friday Night Lights
I'm sure there are some others I'm missing off the top of my head.
I'd like to watch Yellowstone and 1883, but I don't have Paramount+
Coffin Flop on Corncob TV (nsfw) - ( New Window )
lol. this is awesome and if it was a real show I'd watch it.

Designated Survivor was good. Interesting because the first 2 seasons I guess were on network tv but the final season was Netflix and suddenly they started cursing all the time lol.

"Nobody" was fun (albeit violent). Great cast.
Eric, I did watch it finally and my headache went away. Actually a decent film.
Was one of those shows that was so good it even had a perfect ending, even down to the music choices with U2's "with or without you" playing as Paige got off the train the last stop in the US.
