But I believe to deeply cares about the Giants and wants them to be winners. But his football instincts and loyalty have stood in the way. I'm ok that he expressed his opinion on the new HC, but ended up deferring, I can only assume, to Schoen. Going forward, I'm ok with him and Chris expressing their thoughts on draft picks, and Jones and Barkley, as long as they again defer to Schoen. So a little optimism, if tempered, going forward. I don't think we can hope for more than that, and it's probably the same with most teams. When he stops deferring, we'll have a problem.
He hasn't earned any slack from the fanbase but he's had a strong January.
I don't know anything about how to run a football team, but if I'm going to get catch hell when things go bad, I'd rather err on the side of being involved in the decision-making.
Real or not, Flores being rumored as a Mara favorite with the obvious BC connection would’ve had many posters here calling it another sign of Mara playing too large a role.
I wouldn’t have minded Flores, but I love how Daboll feels like a pure Schoen choice. Especially if Dorsey comes along. Mara mentioned getting everyone on the same page and “Uniting” the team. Well a GM/HC/OC combo that seem like they all wanted to be together makes me feel like we’re off to a good start in terms of that. Assuming Dorsey is official.
The good thing is Tisch seemed more involved so if I’m JS I make sure I share ideas with him of where he’s going. Let Tisch deal with Mara if it is causing issues getting things done.
Well, if we're going to play your game, we also have no idea if Schoen was a better choice than Abrams.
Agreed. Very happy about this.
im hoping for the best but if we are going by the pure odds of all coordinators who get jobs anywhere in the NFL (not just those hired by Mara) they are exactly the same today as they were 2 years ago that we won't be in the same spot again 2 years from now (and 2 years before that, and 2 years before that).
Let what play out? You don’t want us talking about a new GM or HC because we have to let it play out? Wtf? Go outside and get some air. The rest of us will continue talking about it. You can check back in around November as it’s playing out…

be hard-pressed to suggest that Daboll wasn't Schoen's preference. So this is a good sign.

Bottom line: Mara likely preferred the experienced coach/ local man/ team turnarounder Flores, but found enough to like about Daboll, to be willing to commit to his earlier comment about staying out of the way.
Even if he had to bite his lip, he left it to the GM.
It also didn’t hurt to believe that they might be able to make DJ and SB a serviceable+, at least for a year, if that’s how Schoen see it.

We have no idea if Schoen was the right choice, just that he was better than Abrams. And, we have no idea if Daboll can make the leap to become a good HC. Less than a year ago, people here were tripping over themselves in that we had one of the best, if not the best, young head coach in the game. And , we had a great staff of teaching assistants. All we can say now is this looks good.

I think if you read a little closer you would see that the thread is about Mara. And I’m not convinced that Mara is going to be as hands off as he should be. Somebody wrote the other day that Schoen was picked because he is more a yes man than Peters would have been; that Mara will be able to “persuade” Schoen to do his biddings. I’m not convinced that that’s wrong but I want to see it play out. If you want to believe in Mara and his change of direction, go ahead. With his track record, I’ll believe it when I see it.
Go GIANTS!11
